I think the best case scenario is that Wolfgang goes on keyboards, they get Hagar and Anthony back in and book a world tour.
On the first night they launch into the first number and halfway through the first verse Hagar drops dead of old age.
Massive publicity for the band plus we get to see it on YouTube. A lot.
They quickly call Dave and play to sold out houses everywhere.
Never happen.
First off, Sam's too damn happy to die. And Dave's gonna be too busy having Japanese facial reconstruction surgery and going to Ninja school. Or sitting in his big ol' empty house with no friends and no video production crew to capture the genius that is him sitting in a bunny costume with Redbulls and poptarts all over the place. Andy Warhol he ain't.
I hate to fuel the rumor mill on the return of Van Hagar, but Ed did say that songs from that era were either on vacation or 'went off to school' in either the Guitar World or Esquire interview from 2012. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he were to plod those songs out again. One would think that the abysmal state he was in during the 2004 tour, coupled with the fact that Sammy is an all out dick, might be reasons enough to never consider going down that road again. But this is EVH we're talking about. All we can do is hope for the best, expect the worst.
Ah, they're "Ed's songs" so I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wanted to play them. And - outside of maybe what, 100 people tops on two message boards - there's a lot of people who were fans of Van Hagar. Plus you've got the people who show up to any big name show that hits town. I'm not saying they're gonna sell 20,000 tickets a show. But did they have 20,000 fans who paid for tickets to show up for all the shows on this last tour? Yeah, not really.
Dave's at home right now laying in bed crying because Ed said he wasn't his friend right before the tour began. He thought Ed was his BFF.
I think it would be almost definitely going to happen if it wasn't for the Hagar book.
There is also the factor that objectively the Van Hagar stuff has just not aged well. I hated 5150 at the time but I loved EEAS but taking a step back it has to be said that neither has aged well. In the same way that for whatever reason Black Sabbath still resonates with young people today, Roth Van Halen does too. It's easier for Wolfgang to go from Light Up The Sky to Tremonti than it would for him to be doing cheesy fucking Baywatch musak like 'When It's Love'.

"We are part of the, not just the culture, but the geography. Van Halen music goes along with like fries with the burger." - David Lee Roth
I have mixed feelings on it.
A Van Hagar reunion would at least take us back to the old days where haters had a legitimate target rather than each other...
Sam's book wouldn't be reason enough for Ed to say no fuckin way. Ed WAS a fucked up mess and it's his brother who should be held accountable for taking Ed out on the road in 2004, since most people here seem incapable of holding Ed accountable for his condition at the time. So the book is a non issue.
The bottom line is this: is Ed willing to tolerate another tour with Dave? It's beyond obvious he has little respect for what Dave brings to the table. Ed's comment that for whatever reason people want to hear Roth singing in VH is proof enough of that. I'd rather see Dave up there than anybody else. But again, we are in a very small group of people who actually give a shit. This ain't 1996 and it's never gonna be again. I don't think even brining Mike back will bring the fans back in record numbers, not unless they do it in a huge way. Insert Super Bowl reunion speculation here.
So we know Ed could give a shit less who is singing, so long as the seats get filled. His kid wants to do something else so maybe Ed can finally cut the apron strings and do something without his security blanket standing on the other side of the stage. Who's gonna be up there singing is anybody's guess. But if I had to bet - I'd toss a hun in with Von.
I have a feeling that Roth Army only exists in fairy tales. Can't say for sure because I found this site looking to see if the rumors Roth was back in Van Halen were true. Didn't even know sites like this existed. I used my computer for two things. Spider Solitaire and porn.
So what are you trying to say here, Donnie? That F A T makes noise? Suzanne Vega once did a tune called 'Blood Makes Noise' but I don't believe she is talking about pretentiousness in her tune. Spammy looks like the little boy who refuses to get out of the sandbox here. Token black guitar player. A lot of "Whhhaooooooo's" and some embarrassing jumping and down. Yeah, I think not even intensive therapy can help him.

Me and Von Halen have chatted about this last night and i'm in full agreement with him. I think David Lee Roth is DONE with Van Halen. I think it's not a coincidence Wolf and Sammy both played Right Now on the same night. If this is true and they bring back Sammy for another run with Van Halen I won't be upset in the slightest bit... in fact i'll be happy. I miss his solo material and the DLR Band. Also, we'll get the long awaited John 5 album that has been shelved the past couple years. Most importantly I miss the days of bashing the fuck of out Ed and Alex. This will give me a reason to as I have been itching to do so.
Oh yeah, I wanna see everyone crying about it too. I laugh at that shit.

I never need a reason to bash Ed. It's Sunday, time to bash Ed for being a bitter old cunt that can't leave home without his son holding his hand. See how easy that was?
I'm past giving a fuck what anyone who ever was ever in Van Halen does. Who cares. Does Wolfie wipe his own ass? I don't know.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
If he is my only regret is I didn't make it to any of the shows on the final tour. I think Van Hagar would probably sell a decent amount of tickets considering the shit that passes for music nowdays. If I had to go to one more concert before I croaked and my choices were Van Hagar, Justin Beiber, Taylor Swift or Miley Cyrus I'd pick Van Hagar.
If those were my only choices, I'd pick permanent deafness.
