Will we get a new album from Van Halen?

Van Halen fans have a reason to celebrate, and we’re not just talking about their upcoming North American summer tour. In a new interview with The Washington Times, guitarist Eddie Van Halen addressed the possibility of a new studio album, and he said they will likely record one after they finish the summer tour.

“After this touring cycle, we will probably hunker down and do a studio record. We certainly have enough material,” Van Halen says. “It is a matter of timing and getting everybody together. That’s the only way it can be done.”

The guitarist adds, “We put out [A Different Kind of Truth] in 2012. But then you go onstage and play those new songs, and the audience looks at you like, ‘What’s this?’ They really want to hear the classics.”

Alcohol is banned. Frozen food is merely impractical, since they're in the desert and many of them don't have refrigeration.

Ok, my county is "dry". But the towns can vote to sell booze. My town sells booze. Most of the towns sell booze. So technically it's dry but in reality you can buy all the beer and liquor you want. The reason the "dry counties" still exist is mostly because we don't want to appear to be drankin beer so we can be respectable. So we found a way to look like we're dry but really we got all the booze we can drink. It's just like when teenagers used to go buy from the bootlegger on the weekend. Geez, so much for your all knowing evil powers...

From what she told me, the gray one on the bottom (it's thicker with grooves) was the one EVH used onstage.....

ADKOT did, what...1/2 million worldwide? And that album had a pretty decent promotional push, too. Have no idea what the Tokyo Dome release ended up selling, but it had a decent amount of ad space devoted to a promo push for that as well.

Would it even be worth the bother for the band to do another album? They seemed to be able to sell concert tickets well enough this year without one.

I suppose I'd be interested in hearing what the band could come up with, but I think there's more than a little truth to what Ed said, in that people coming to VH shows now couldn't really care less if new material is played: they want to hear the classics. I suppose the band could do another album and perhaps attempt to delude themselves into thinking they are a viable creative unit, but they know which part of the VH catalog butters their bread.
