Plus, what do you think these guys are gonna sound like after all these years apart? We're not talking about the Rolling Stones that have done it for years....... Nice to think you might bring back some of your youth like that, but I just see a cash grab and a train wreck......

A one off show in L A before the tour starts but no scheduled concert there. What's up with that?

I'm trying to imagine a jam packed MetLife stadium reacting to the likes of this...

The last guy we chastised for his song and dance act was a hundred times more watchable and listenable than this ass clown.

If you are going I would recommend that people don't rush out to buy tickets just now...

Not a stellar performance but I've heard worse from bands during their heyday. At least he tried to sing instead of blurting out the lyrics in a cartoonish fashion.

They do that for talk shows and such in Hollywood everyday. But you better show up early because they usually give out way more tickets to people than they can actually accomodate.

That particular style of singing that he was choking on is a cartoonish fashion. You have to contort your esophagus to sing like that. It's for the most part, the style the majority of the Appetite songs are sung in, and I feel as though he's struggled to sing like that, live, since the Illusion tour. Songs like Mr. Brownstone and It's So Easy are more of a representation of his actual range and register. That gimmicky falsetto does him no favors.

That's either VIP or some broker. I just bought tix for $250 via ticketmaster for row 19 on the floor at the Georgia Dome. The highest priced VIP package was like $1750.

Thoroughly boring. And people are gonna pay 2500 bucks to see that? I don't get it. Winger puts on a show 100 times better than that

I wonder how many times during this show Slash thought about killing Achwel. I mean, the guy doesn't need the money so he really must be taking one for the fans.

    Perhaps.

The locations and the fairly small amount of dates are such that they might be able to pull it off.

Like, they're playing one date in New England at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. So, it's reasonable to assume between all the states in New England there would be enough people wanting to see a G n R reunion to fill up the 68,000 capacity.

They're doing 2 dates in Texas, the shows are within 2 days of one another and within a few hundred miles of each other, each stadium seating around 76,000 capacity. But the Arlington one will presumably also be attended by people in Oklahoma and Arkansas...

They're doing one date in Florida, in Orlando at a 70,000 capacity venue. They should be able to draw 70,000 people from the entire state willing to go to Orlando to see that.

Actually, it's smart scheduling far as the locations themselves go: because they are so scattered and the dates are fairly few, assumedly turnout will be good. Like, if they can't sell out stadiums using this strategy, they're never gonna be able to sell out stadiums...at least in the US (I have no idea what their drawing power in Europe or elsewhere would be).

Oddly, it'll be seeing what the attendance of these shows ends up being that is of most interest to me. Because I don't recall Guns and Roses being a band that sold out stadiums in the US as a headlining act...I seem to remember their Illusions Tour sold the best and played to the largest crowds when they were co-headlining with Metallica when the Black Album was peaking.

Fat shamer. If he gets his shit together and doesn't pull his usual bullshit like showing up late and threatening people that he knows would never take him up on his offer to "get in the ring" they might put on some decent shows. I think it would be funny as fuck if he started challenging his foes to pie eating contests to parody his former persona but I don't think that boy came equipped with a sense of humor.

No Golden Corral in that town...

But seriously, is this "reunion" that big of a deal? I never was much of a fan so I have no idea if people are going insane over this or not. I mean, I know they had some hits back in the day but were they really all that YUGE of a draw back then?

Actually , there are several Golden Corrals here so Axl can stuff his face .They were that big of a deal back in the day . The last time they played here ( July 2 , 1991) it melted down into a full-fledged riot and Yes , I was there . The ensuing copies of Use Your Illusion I & II both have a gret big , juicy " Fuck You St. Louis !" in the album credits .

It's really too bad they can't get the original guys. I'd be a lot more interested in the original line up.

I have about as much interest in this as I did in the band by the time 1992 rolled around and Alder and Stradlin were gone, which is to say not very much.

That's the thing, in that the band was pretty famous from 1988 to 1993, but as far as actual drawing power went the band wasn't selling out stadiums back then solely based on their drawing power as a headline act.

GNR were/are much bigger in Europe than Van Halen ever were - I think they could at the very least match the last ACDC tour and manage 2 stadium shows per country as long as the YouTube footage from the US looked ok.

I would guess that the reason for the makeup of the US tour though is to keep it short so the wheels don't fall off or at best as a test to see if they can function before going further afield.

I never got much of a sense that Van Halen were huge in Europe. They really only had one tour in Europe as headliners, with Roth in 1984. Did they even play Europe after that prior to opening for Bon Jovi in 1994/1995?

Yeah, I could see part of the upcoming US structure in terms of a fairly small amount of dates as being a testing run of shows, so that if they don't get along they're not locked into a massive amount of dates with promoters.

I do recall reading that the Illusions tour dates in Europe were pretty well attended, and I also recall reading that even the Axl-only version of the band has done well over there far as concert attendances go.

Not even that. They last did a European tour in 1980 for WACF which ended up just being France. Germany and the UK as they had to cancel a week in Italy after Roth famously bust his nose on a glitter ball jumping off a riser. This is before my time but I talked to a fan who went to the Scottish show recently and he said it was a shitty gig as the band were really drunk. They then did just four festival shows second on the bill to ACDC in 1984 and that's it until the Van Hagar supporting Bon Jovi thing. I think that was part of the reason for Van Halen's relative smaller following in Europe. Dave toured every solo album after EEAS and appeared to be bigger solo than Van Hagar.

Europe has never been as big as the US with the whole AOR/MOR thing particularly since rock isn't and never has been mainstream.
