Another one of those classic genius posts, sure to generate responses. You log on the next day to see what your witty gem has produced to find no one gets it and 2 knotheads want to stick their dicks in it... Well played, sir!!

Ah, I just had to throw the Wolfie comment out there cause it's what I do

Now...we all know Dave isn't the Dave we all grew up seeing on the Mtv and in the magazines and in the interviews and on stage. So I get that he's a hermit and a complete weirdo. But how weird is it that his old band is doing a reunion/anniversary to play the songs off his first real solo record and Dave's nowhere to be found? I want to blame that old cunt Ed for this but I think I may have to lay the blame at at the feet of old weird Dave. He didn't seem to have any problem doing the Beach Boy got almost two years ago. So surely he can't be contractually bound to NOT ever play any live gigs.

So that leaves us with two options:

        A. Dave didn't want to do this show

        2. Dave wasn't invited to do this show

        3. Dave's in Japan finishing up wannabe Ninja college

        6. Dave's too busy working on his dance moves for the next tour scheduled to start in 2020

Now I don't know which, if any, of those is what happened here, but either way it doesn't look good and why not gin up the old rumor mill?

We need to bring him back to Earth first. At his age, that would be an extremely cruel thing to do.

Let him be in la la sailor moon land.

EEAS band with a kickass frontman is good enough for me. Let Dave rest. He's earned it.

You no shame chubby chaser, you.

Regardless, it ain't gonna happen so having Ralph up there is the next best thing. Sure, it ain't Dave but it sure as shit will sound like Dave.
Nah, it really wouldn't have been all that great to see Dave up there.

Back in 1986, when Roth was still peaking? Yeah, it made sense for Roth to put together such a group and front it. Now? Dave doesn't have the juice left in the tank to front a band consisting of Vai, Sheehan and Bissonette. all of whom can still knock it out of the park with their respective instruments. Dave can barely make it through a full Van Halen set these days, much less stand up and do the EEAS sonic fury justice.

It would be embarrassing to even see him try.

Gee Terry, the one time I say something positive about Dave

I'd rather see Ralph any day.

                  That's treasonous talk, Terry.

He doesn't do it because he has nothing left to prove & he EARNED HIS REST.

This is the official excuse. He earned his rest. Repeat it to yourself until you know you won't forget. And if the subject ever comes up, this is what you will say.

I'll readily agree Roth has nothing left to prove.

Shit, had Roth walked away from the business in 1993, he wouldn't have had anything left to prove. Shit, if Roth had walked away from the business after he left Van Halen in 1985, his legend would have already been cemented.

But I gotta tell ya, I've seen Roth perform in 1999, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2012. And seeing all of those combined with watching the clips of the 2015 tour...it's just a natural function of age, wear and tear, what have you.

The music those four guys made from 1974 to 1984...it just wasn't designed to be played by those guys 30 + years later with the same ferociousness and fury. And anything less than that...is just less than that. Dave gets by these days with the band, but only just, and now he's straying over the line in terms of performance ability that separates paying tribute and celebrating his past accomplishments to that of farcical self-parody, and that's a charitable way of putting it.

He has earned both his place in rock history and his rest. The only question now is if he will take both and depart the field before he overstays his welcome.

Or raunchiness. ESPECIALLY raunchiness. Dave standing there at 25, acting like the world's most flamboyant stallion was cool. At 40? Not really. And it only got worse.

I'd say he overstayed his welcome already. The reunion tour was needed, for better or worse & so was the "new" album. They should've called it a day right then & there.

                            Dave Lee Ralph is 50.

Ralph is older now than Dave was during the tour with Hagar when he was doing the splits off the drum riser each night.

Yeah, but his gig with Steel Panther has given him the freedom to do a parody of Dave and/or himself & get away with it.

And you know that if it's for laughs, anything goes/is allowed.

Now, you may argue that Dave WAS already doing it for laughs when he was 25, but it wasn't how it was generally perceived & most people who still remember Dave, remember him as this sex god from the 80s. He can't get away with THAT nowadays.

If Ralph tries to do it seriously, it'll be a train wreck.

On the other hand, maybe people ARE expecting him to do it seriously. In which case, it'll be a train wreck either way.

Well, now I am depressed. Dammit.
