More Mexico migrants leaving US than arriving - study

More Mexicans are leaving the US than migrating there, reversing a longstanding flow, a study has found.

More than one million Mexicans and their families, including US-born children, returned to Mexico from 2009 to 2014 after living in the US, the report by Pew Research Center found.

Meanwhile, only 870,000 Mexicans moved in to US during the same time period, creating a net loss of 140,000 people.

An uneven economic recovery in the US was cited as a reason behind the shift.

Industries where migrants typically found work, such as construction, have not rebounded since the US emerged from a recession in 2009.

While increased border security has been an issue in the US presidential race, the Pew Center found that existing border controls have also made it harder for undocumented Mexicans to enter the US.
Family ties

The US has also stepped up efforts to deport migrants who have entered the country illegally.

However, the report found that the majority of Mexicans in the US who returned home did so "of their own accord".

The most common reason cited was reuniting with family. Others cited job opportunities in Mexico.

I ain't buying this bullshit. My cousin stopped by for a weekend visit this weekend. He's half Mexican/half white but looks like a border jumper. He catches shit once in a while for this but he doesn't blame racism. He blames the wetbacks. He too has been turned down for jobs based on the fact he doesn't speak spanish even though most of the time he's by far the best candidate for the job. The person on the other side of the counter is usually just like him. An American with Latino heritage. He says he usually doesn't hesitate to tell that person what he thinks of them. You'd be surprised how many other Americans like him feel the same way about illegals. On top of that we don't seem to have any problem letting more immigrants come here through legal channels even though our government knows other immigrants are entering the country illegally in massive numbers on a daily basis. The reason so many are heading back now, if they really are is the other ones have turned parts of our country into shitholes as bad or worse than the ones they came from. I damn sure ain't buying it's because we've stepped up deportations. We only deport one that commit fairly serious crimes that have usually been deported several times before. I'm surprised more bleeding hearts aren't bitching about that.

GOP candidate Trump calls off rally due to security concerns

CHICAGO (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump canceled one of his signature rallies on Friday, calling off the event due to safety concerns after protesters packed the arena where he was scheduled to speak.

The announcement the billionaire businessman would postpone the rally led a large portion of the crowd inside the University of Illinois at Chicago Pavilion to break out into raucous cheers. Many rushed onto the floor, jumping up and down with their arms up in the air.
