Capital gains, however, cannot be carried forward. Once an asset is sold for more than its original purchase price and a gain is realized, the gain must be declared in full on that year's taxes. Hillary Clinton was apparently looking for ways to appeal to supporters of Bernie Sanders during a contentious Democratic primary campaign, according to leaked audio revealed this week.
A report from Politico on Friday noted that the recording, taken from a private fundraiser held in February, showed Clinton laying out her assessment of Sanders voters.
In the throes of the Democratic primary campaign, citizens rooting for Sanders saw the Vermont senator as the arbiter of a political revolution. Clinton described some of them as "children of the Great Recession" who are frustrated by a sluggish economy.
"They are living in their parents' basement," Clinton said. "They feel they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves. And they don’t see much of a future."

Funny thing is it appears the reason he hasn't paid income tax in 20 years is he lost 916 million in 96 and has been writing part of that loss off over the last 20. That's 48 mill a year in write offs. The regular tax payer can only write off 3 grand a year in capital losses. Trump must hire the best tax guy that ever lived.

The argument that he's not willing to release his tax returns because he's not as rich as he claims doesn't make sense to me. Personal income tax forms don't reveal someone's net worth. That would come from financial disclosure forms which he basically offered up before without any response.

Well, dubious sounds like illegal to me. So it all comes down to what the tax code says about any given individual's tax liability. If I was getting my taxes done next year and the preparer said "If you deduct X due to Y reason then your tax liability for 2016 will be zero and it's completely legal" you can bet I ain't paying jack shit. The thing is, everybody says they want everybody to pay his or her fair share. Except on April 15th. Then everybody is trying to pay as little as legally possible and they all feel great about it.
Let's pick a number, say 30,000 dollars. And let's say everybody here on this board has to pay a total of 30,000 dollars in federal income tax for 2016. Now, there's not one person here who would say "Yeah, I think I'll cut the check instead" if their tax advisor said you legally don't owe anything due to whatever reason. Nobody would.
