Eddie van halen - with billy idol - the forum 5/8/87

In May of 1987 Eddie Van Halen joined Billy Idol and Steve Stevens onstage for Mony Mony. Steve Stevens uploaded the photo. I managed to locate the others on Ebay. I would love to hear a bootleg of this show. I know Eddie had joined idol onstage at Namm in January.

OBC joined Billy and Steve onstage for the worst song Billy ever recorded?
American by birth. Southern by the grace of God.

I would love to hear this, or see it, if there's video.

All these cool threads and nobody gives a fuck anymore. Sad.

Even the one I posted of Ray talking about auditioning for the DLR Band. Nobody gives a fuck.

Dave and the VH's have mismanaged their fan base worse than any major band ever has. Ever. They have destroyed the will of their own fan base.

There is a clip of the EVH/Stevens NAMM thing.

I know. I'd rather not fuck them, though.

One of them has this huge goatee. I don't think I could.

It is the truth... Strangely, they accomplished this within their cheapest and easiest to manage media form with the broadest reach and global access of their fan base... The internet.

Remember the wealth of info the old van-halen.com held... an on-line VH encyclopedia. Roth and his sites plus the free Roth Show youtube channel. They didn't even have to do any work to maintain it!! Just leave it up, maybe a few hundred bucks in hosting fees/domain registration per year. Hell they could weaseled some fool to manage it for them for free... But no, put it all out then yank it away for... what?

    Yup....

But even in a more simplistic point of view, they fucked up the easiest way of interacting with their fanbase, and that is by flat-out ignoring basic social media, which can be done basically for free.... Even if you want to hire some schmuck, it's relatively cheap....

Wolf and his cousin Malcolm had some nice Instagram pics during the last tour, but that is a poor consolation prize for what can easily be done....

Even a decent Facebook page would be a huge improvement, but it's easy to manage Facebook/Twitter/Instagram... Hell, even throw in a Periscope feed every now and then, doesn't have to be on tour.....

I periscoped some of the TSO show this year.

The Butcher Babies scoped their whole set from side stage in L.A. the other night. It was AWESOME!

Plus you toss in the fact that people just move on after a while and the base is dwindling. But instead of using the interwebz to bring in new fans or try to excite the old fans - these idiots just do nothing. Well, worse than nothing, actually - they shit all over their fans. I get that they "don't owe us anything". Fine. Then sell us what we want. Here's two things they could do this year that would generate buzz and get the fans excited:

Put together a 50 show summer tour and make it a proper reunion

Pay some idiot to go through whatever old tape - audio and video - that still exists and package it. At the same time, dump all the old photos they have from the old days in a big ass pile and have a 75 or 100 dollar coffee table book made out of it.

Now I'm not gonna sit here and say bringing Mike back is gonna make the band sound like 1982 all over again. It ain't. But Mike still does a great job with his back up vocals and the fans want a real reunion. No, Dave's not gonna put on his Zorro outfit and swing onto the stage. But at least it would be a proper reunion. I don't care if Wolf does a fine job up there - it ain't Van Halen.

As far as the audio and video goes - Ed can have his husband take the crap to one of her porn production company friends and they can edit it and package it for next to nothing. It's kinda what they do. Duh.

The one thing that I don't think would make much sense is a new record. It would probably cost them north of half a mill to make it and good luck getting a label to distribute it. Now if they made new music and put it on iTunes or whatever - that would work. But these guys probably aren't going to write anything new any time soon. So whatever.

But these idiots aren't going to do any of those things. Why? Because they don't give a shit about their fans or their legacy. At this point, all VH is is the next big name band coming to town after the last big name band was here and before the next big name band gets here. It's not so much an event as it is something to do. "Oh look - VH is coming to town. Wonder if I should buy a ticket or watch TV that nite?"

As for Dave - I can't sit through endless crappy Roth Shows. I just can't be bothered anymore. All I really want to hear is stories about the CVH years, his solo years, and what it's been like these last 9 years. I don't give a shit if he used to dress up like Greta Garbo when he was 9 or which stupid play inspired him to act like a fag onstage (Freddie Mercury didn't act as gay as this dude) or how he takes all this crap and crafts a delicate house blend I swear to God I am sick of hearing that! Just tell the goddamn stories and shut up.

Ah, I don't know why I even half way care anymore. Those idiots stopped caring a looooonnnnng time ago.

No, even dumbasses like them! I have seen every tour except the year my Wife passed. Couldn't bring myself to go to that one. The stage show gets more massive every year. My only complaint, it's not loud enough!

I love the Olivas & everything they touched.

Although they've never been in the mainstream spotlight, they left a huge musical legacy, unsurpassed by anyone else.

    And Jon's still going.

There was a time Jon was writing for Savatage, Circle II Circle & TSO. All brilliant stuff. Genius doesn't begin to describe him.

Yeah man. It sucked when Criss Oliva was killed by a drunk driver. He could shred with the best of them. But still played great rhythm's, and he played with soul. In my mind, he was ahead of most of his contemporaries, because he was so diverse.

And he kept improving. He never stagnated, never relied on the same party tricks over & over.

Who knows how far he could have gone?

Stevie Ray, Criss Oliva... how about we start a conspiracy theory that the Illuminati wanted to kill off those who could've improved musical arts to an absurd level, so that they could unleash rap & hip-hop on the unsuspecting masses, thus decreasing the average intelligence to near-vegetable levels?

It's dumb enough to be true!

My friend takes her mom to see TSO every year. Her parents came with us to the EEAS and Skyscraper shows too.
