    New Metallica

    My quick review:

    Music good, lyrics dumb.

Writing In All Proper Case Takes Extra Time, Is Confusing To Read, And Is Completely Pointless.

I'd have to imagine if you were a Metallica fan you'd be pleased hearing that track.

Solid production, classic Metallica-sounding thrash riffs.

It does sound like a throwback to the original Metallica sound - which they have been trying so hard to avoid since 1991 or so. If the rest of the album was more like this and less like St. Load of Angry Magnetic, I might actually buy it.

Metallica has always been about the money. Not that that's a bad thing. Why do you think The Stones and The Who still tour? Why would Jimmy Page want to record another Zep album? Why did the last Van Halen tour happen? The musician that does it for the art of it is an endangered species nowadays. Is that a real word? My spell checker thinks it is. I'm not so sure. I thought it was nowdays. Robert Plant might be one of those artistes. He could make a shitload of cash doing a couple Zep shows but he chooses not to.

To be fair Metallica haven't always been about the money , when I first saw them on tour with anthrax in 1904 or something I can't think of a less commercial sound.
But they stuck to their guns and didn't follow my career suggestion of getting a good education.

Just a pity what they turned into .... Still as a career move they work less weekends than me and their pension is looking canny

    "Hardwired"

    In the name of desperation
In the name of wretched pain
In the name of all creation
    Gone insane

    We're so fucked
    Shit outta luck
    Hardwired to self-destruct

    On the way to paranoia
    On the crooked borderline
On the way to great destroyer
    Doom design

    We're so fucked
    Shit outta luck
    Hardwired to self-destruct

    Once upon a planet burning
    Once upon a flame
    Once upon a fear returning
    All in vain

Do you feel that hope is fading?
    Do you comprehend?
    Do you feel it terminating?
    In the end

    We're so fucked
    Shit outta luck
    Hardwired to self-destruct
    Hardwired to self-destruct

    Self-destruct
    Self-destruct
    Self-destruct

The reason I was looking for the lyrics was to clarify that one word. It sounded like farked or possibly fart. I wonder if this will get airplay uncensored like Who Are You or will it get censored like Money and that Steve Miller song. Always thought it was ridiculous they censored that Tom Petty song where he says Let's roll another joint too. Funny how attitudes about pot have changed so much in the last decade. I saw a version of Cheech And Chong's Next Movie where they kept substituting diamonds when they refereed to weed.

Amazing they're still alive. Anthrax is some nasty shit if inhaled. Thank God for Louis Pasteur.

That's the thing: if the track is just a one-off, and isn't indicative of the rest of the album, I'd give it a pass.

Those lyrics mar the solid effort of what truly sounds like a classic scorcher. James would have been better off going the Beck route and singing oblique non-sense rather than this juvenile drivel.

Hetfield has always been a potty mouth. He wanted to call their first album Metal Up Your Ass.

The two new tunes from 'Hardwired To Self-Destruct' are very good indeed. 'Moth Into Flame' is the most focussed Metallica have sounded in a long time - rather than just smashing riff-into-riff-into-riff, they've really worked on dynamcs and composition. This could be a really, really good record.

Tour dates. Two nights in each city, weekends, stadiums, and a different set list each night. Multiple opening acts, including Mammoth WVH

A two day ticket is going to cost way more than I'd be willing to pay.

I like the idea of different setlists each night.

You could have more fun in Vegas for $7,272.00 than at a Metallica show.

That’s like having Van Halen without Eddie. Only Sammy Hagar thinks that sort of thing is possible.
