I bought this show on a Beta VHS tape on a Tokyo alley in 1984.....
The dude lowering his video recorder during RWTD is funny.....

To think, three short years after this show, VH turned into a cheesy love song band.

Beta ruled!
Writing In All Proper Case Takes Extra Time, Is Confusing To Read, And Is Completely Pointless.
Beta vs VHS was like the HD vs Blu-Ray war. VHS won just like Blu-Ray won.
Betamax offered better quality, didn't it?
When I was at university, I saw the "Stones in the Park" on Beta, in a box at the English language lab while a couple of other students were viewing "the Draughtman's Contract".
Nice to see this '82 Montreal footage. I enjoy it more than it makes me feel seasick, and the seasickness ain't nothing!
The reason it lost in the UK was to do with rentals. It's hard to imagine now but back then the majority of people rented their TVs from places not that bad an idea as my memory is that color TVs would break down quite often. When home video came out VHS cornered the main suppliers of TV rental who then did packages for TVs and VCRs.
We had bought a Betamax as my dad had researched it and found out it was smaller and better quality and so for years watched as the beta area in movie rental stores shrank each year until it disappeared.
Yeah.
We ended up with a Beta machine at Christmas of '83, but it was purchased at the beginning of December and past the two week return window so we were stuck with it. All of our friends had VHS machines so there wasn't any tape trading.
There were a couple local small shops that rented Beta. I had Purple Rain and Raiders of the Lost Ark on Beta. Back then a lot of commercial tapes were stupid expensive (close to $100) and marked "priced for rental" in reviews. Took the studios a while to realize that people would like to own their favorite films and watch them frequently.
Some claim that Sony refused to license Beta to porn studios and that's why Beta never took off. There was Beta porn though, one local shop had a decent selection. Or so I was told...

Oh there was porn on Betamax. My buddy's dad would rent movies on Betamax and record them on VHS - I don't remember why, maybe the blanks were cheaper. Anyway, my buddy's older sister worked at a local video rental place and we got to take movies home for free and she'd sneak us some porn. We'd play it on Beta and record it on VHS and sold the copies to our buddies, which didn't last long but it was fun.
Anyway, if I was gonna go all vintage I'd grab a Laserdisc player. Those suckers were cool and the movies came in a big ass record jacket so you could store like a gazillion on a set of shelves. A chick I dated in high school, her dad had an electronics business and they had Laserdisc players in every room. On our second date she wanted to stay home and watch a movie and opened up this double door closet and it was stocked from the floor to head high with movies on Laserdisc. We never went to the movies again while we dated.
Laser disc must have been a massive flop , you used to see them in shops but I never knew anyone with one.
fuck your fucking framing
My pal had a Phillips 2000 system which was the Gary Cherone of VCRs.
It was also called V2000, or at least in Frogland.
Betamax could never have worked here, as "beta" means stupid or silly goose in Frog.
I bought Jimi plays Berkeley 20 years ago on laser disk, thinking it was a vinyl LP...
Yo VA, I will only say it would be nice if you could do a direct transfer to digital from your Beta tape and upload it.
That is all.
Heck, that youtube vid is not even full HD quality....it is only 360p.....
So a direct transfer from Beta in 480p would definitely be an upgrade....
