I'm seeing it tonight at 7 pm
It's getting pretty good reviews. Said to be dark, like Empire Strikes Back.

I've read good to mixed reviews and depending heavily on expectations...

Seems that the marketing department is making the mistake of not publicising what this movie is about. People hear that it's a "one shot" spin off not connected to the third trilogy, and they might lose interest. Actually it's meant to fill in the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
So chronologically speaking, this should be titled "Star Wars Epsiode 3.5" .... though I'm not sure how you do .5 in Roman numerals, which is what they have always used in the opening title crawl

I don't really have any expectations. Just that the info from the opening crawl of A New Hope gets fleshed out. I did read the pre-story, Catalyst, and it's got a little bit of a lead in to Rogue One but it's said that one could skip the book and get the movie.
Kind of like Revenge of the Sith...if you paid attention during the original trilogy you had a pretty good idea what was going to happen to Anakin.
As for VIII, there doesn't seem to be many leaks about what's going to make it onscreen. I thought we'd have at least a title by now. I've seen a couple things, mostly based on how soon after VII the new one takes place, and a little about Luke. I guess the big spoiler discussions are on Reddit, and I don't lurk there.
Am seeing it on Sunday heard lots of good stuff about it . Dirty dozen meets inglorious bastards.
Seemingly they explain why the Death Star ... a hundred trillion credit death machine can get fucked by a spit ball. That's worth the admission
I haven't seen spoilers but I know none of them are in star wars

Yeah... I think they're just too chickenshit to try to get around the Roman numeral problem
half in roman numerals is S... for semi ( courtesy of wikipower). Living in wallsend for years finally paid off. You get extra points if you can guess how it got its name
It's good! I thought it started out a little slow but kept a good pace once it got going.
Some little surprises, I'll wait a few days before mentioning. I will say there's nothing extra after the credits, don't feel like you have to sit there.
People are griping about the music not being done by John Williams. It's not bad, traditional orchestra, some recognizable Star Wars themes. But then we stopped to have a couple beers after and started picking the whole thing apart...

That's how you show it live , you pick it to bits
I'm looking forward to seeing it this weekend!

Seen it, it was very good. Of course I could pick holes in it but what the fuck it's a fun 2 hours
Saw it yesterday. It's a movie - not a documentary, lol, so I won't be picking it apart. I thought it kicked ass. Great movie and yeah it looked like a Star Wars movie should. I'm not gonna spoil it for anybody - yet - but this ain't no happy ending Star Wars movie and the Rebels aren't as squeaky clean as they seemed in the original trilogy.

I quite like this , so another take on the trilogy.
Start with rogue one then star wars and end on empire.
No dodgy ewoks, ends on an amiguous defeat after the rebels win the first two.

I think Bueno Bob once posted a very detailed version of events from the Imperial/First Order side about the genesis of the Rebels being criminals and bandits and that they committed war crimes by executing captured Imperial Officers and Storm Troopers when ransoms weren't met. It must have been written by some fan site and it was interesting but I read like 1/10th of it and could never find it again...

Finally saw it tonight.
I can't be the only person who wondered that having scenes where the rag tag rebels are ambushing with IEDs vastly superior equipped imperial forces who were there to steal their resources in a middle eastern setting could feel a bit weird for some folk... especially since it's a suicide mission with them spouting religious chants.

Also what happens when porn movie technology catches up with Star Wars movie technology in a couple of years?
We get to see anyone fuck anyone?
At the start of Star Wars, they claim they are on a diplomatic mission.
That seems like a very weak line now...
I don't think the Rebels were that "rag tag". Part of the Star Wars battle lore is the X-Wing fighter is vastly superior to the Empire's Tie Fighters and that the Imperial Army is much too small to garrison the Empire making the Death Star their only option to terrorize people into control...

The unseen Star Wars archive footage used in Rogue One
Director Gareth Edwards keeps on top of his recycling

Star Wars prequel/spin-off Rogue One was clearly steeped in the aesthetics and tone of original 1977 film Star Wars (aka Episode IV: A New Hope) from its very first trailer – but as it turns out, there’s an even deeper connection between the two movies.
In fact, Rogue One director Gareth Edwards has revealed that certain scenes in his new film were created from discarded footage shot for the original Star Wars – and it all came about because of some old reels of film he found while doing research.
“We went to Skywalker ranch, and there’s the archives there,” Edwards told RadioTimes.com.
“And as we’re walking around, and doing all the cool things and looking at the Millennium Falcon and trying on Han Solo’s jacket and things like that, in the back at the bottom was all these cans of film. And we said ‘what are they?’ and they said ‘Oh, it’s Star Wars.’
“And you go… ‘has someone gone through all this? And it’s like ‘not really, they’re not fully like digitised at all.’”
Sensing an opportunity, Edwards got his hands on the film negatives, and realised he had the perfect chance for a subtle homage in his hands.
“We got the neg documents and found the clips from A New Hope that hadn’t been used,” he recalled. “And there’s pilot photography and lines that were never featured in A New Hope."
The deleted scenes Edwards included were from the iconic Death Star assault towards the end of the film, specifically the fan-favourite X-Wing callsign exchange that precedes the Rebel Alliance’s attack on the Imperial superweapon (see below).
And with a few tweaks, Edwards found that some clips fitted perfectly into his own X-Wing dogfight sequence.
“Through the magic of ILM [special effect studio Industrial Light and Magic] they cut round them and manipulated them and stuck them into our cockpits,” he said.
“It’s the sort of thing you think, ‘how many people will notice?’ Do you know what I mean? It’s like, is this a lot of effort for very little reward?”
But of course, the intensely scrutinous Star Wars fans who’ve seen the footage thus far have been appreciative.
“At the world premiere in LA, there was this massive cheer at a particular point in the film,” Edwards said. “It was the only time during the premiere where I actually punched the air.”

So my prediction.
Luke isn't the last Jedi
Like father like son , Luke is the bad guy in the second one
With the 3rdepisode redemption
The girl is the Jedi of the title
The return of the Jedi clip of Princess Leia saying run away and hide Luke. Makes me think that is why he is on a fucking shit hole in Scotland. He is trying to hide is evil ways.
It's like am Making it up
And woody now being hans mentor in the Han Solo episode has me a little more interested
I thought that harrelson was implied
Although buzz was probably more fitting
Shit you are right , Edinburgh is lovely
I'm pretty sure that it will turn out that Luke has moved to there for tax reasons.
The title 'The Last Jedi' reflects him having to give up his powers when on the advice of Bono he moves his lightsaber off shore to a tax haven in Bermuda via a small holding company in Belgium.
So many ways this could go.
Maybe Luke put himself into exile after Kylo Ren slaughtered the rest of the Jedi in training.
"Jedi" could be singular or plural. Luke is the last Jedi, or Rey will be. Or Rey tries to convince a reluctant Luke to train her, and he refuses.
Still haven't seen many spoilers, and not really looking too hard this time.

Darth Maul as Supreme Leader Snoke? It's More Likely Than You Think
February 23, 2017 by RYAN ROSCHKE
Going into all the madness surrounding Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we've got quite a few mysteries to figure out. Not only are we trying to unpack the meaning of "the last Jedi" and uncover the identity of Rey's parents, but we've also got one big question to answer on the dark side: who the hell is Supreme Leader Snoke? We came up with a few theories of our own, but we couldn't help but notice the kind of fodder elsewhere on the internet. That's when we happened upon one truly crazy theory: that Snoke is actually a villain we've seen before — Darth Maul. Let's go over how it could prove true.
