I've never liked the guy because he took over a billion dollars from the UK (Conservative) government playing short with our economy. Plenty of blame for the politicians but the bottom line was he cleaned out $1 billion which was tax payers money and the UK did take him in after the war.
It's funny to compare those numbers to what happens if you take $1k from a post office...
