It's funny, because these Evangelical Christian Conservatives so readily jettison MANY tenets of their religion for political, social or cultural expediency with such ease. Funny, in that this sort of half-hearted "take from religion what you need when you need it" rationale is something reminiscent of so many kooky post-hippy, 1970s liberal-leaning 'New Age' spiritual fads of the type you would think these right wing religious folks would reflexively shy away from...but I guess people are more complicated than the demographic brushes they are painted with.
But, yeah, you hear so much talk within a sizable faction of the conservative side of the political spectrum about America being the only country on the planet specifically sanctioned by God, and Jesus this and Jesus that. And yet this same faction just LOVES it when Fox News or Conservative Talk Radio speaks about how - in contrast with the very small percentage of our national outlay is actually devoted to it - minorities on public assistance (sometimes known as 'the needy') are ruining America because they are a bunch of lazy deadbeats who are preventing the budget being balanced due to their sloth-like existence and indiscriminate breeding habits. Truth be told, their were plenty of self-identifying centrist liberals in the early 1990s who enjoyed hearing Bill Clinton say similar things in less explicit terms.
It's this continual propagation of the idea that non-white peoples of a lower class are destroying the United States.
From what I know about Jesus from what The Bible says, I have no doubt whose side Jesus would be on if he were here today. It wouldn't be that of the rich, or those who have hatred of ' the others' - or the 'servant class' - in their hearts. What was it...something about Jesus cleansing the merchants and money changers from the Temple? Yet these Evangelical Christian Conservatives felt totally fine electing Trump...what is one to make of that in terms of how it reflects the thoughtfulness and strength of their beliefs and principles?Scramby eggs and bacon.Comment

The whole Sanders kerfluffle has more to do with Sanders turning over his donor lists to the DNC and [Sanders] both falling in line behind Perez and the national (or 'Establishment') Democratic party structure, and also having Bernie encouraging Sanders supporters to do the same. The Democratic Establishment has finally come to the realization that a sizable amount of the electorate likes what Sanders has to say, so they want what Bernie has in terms of the money and support he earned, but without any of his direct influence on the party, process or policy.
Sanders isn't a mainstream democrat. For the vast bulk of his career, Sanders didn't even self-identify as a democrat. The Democratic Party is making the mistake of thinking that the nature of Sanders and his support(ers) is easily transferrable to the party. A painless process that won't involve any substantive moves away from corporate centrism. This is a fundamental misreading of the tenor out there. That same fundamental misreading that convinced the Party to give Hillary as close to a coronation as possible last year: she MUST be the nominee because she's the only nominee who can win and therefore she can't lose and therefore she must be the nominee.
How'd that work out in the end? Oh, yeah, that's right...she LOST. TWICE. So much for the prescience of the then-Democratic Party Establishment in 2016.
First, in 2008, to Barack Obama. Perhaps the case could be made that her candidacy was less 'historical' than his, and because their politics were similar there was no shame in losing a close one to Obama.
Then, she lost AGAIN. To Donald Trump, no less. I don't really see the honor to be found coming in second in THAT contest. And now, she's providing various rationales for her loss that NEVER (not one time) give her the majority of ownership in terms of responsibility for that loss.
The Democratic Party wants to marginalize Sanders. For his part, Sanders doesn't owe the party structure ANYTHING.
