I tend to think Roth's encounters are more same-sex oriented...more like he got a hummer from a club bar back named Alex Silverburger, rather than Alicia Silverstone.

I mean, has anybody ever once seen a publicity photo of Roth with someone one could definitively call his "girlfriend"? And not that pic of him from the 1980s with Sonia Braga and Anthony Michael Hall & Robert Downey, Jr. in tow: clearly, Braga was Dave's beard that night.

There is a pic of Dave in the jungle with some slightly above average looking girl during one of his "Jungle Studs" outing, maybe it was Braga. There was also a rumor he carried on a relationship with, wanted to marry, Apollonia. But Prince nixed it. Dave may or may not be gay, but I doubt he is. I think extreme narcissists have trouble maintaining relationships for more than a few weeks regardless of orientation. I think Monk pretty much says this, that Dave was more or less straight but seldom had the same girl around for more than a few weeks even when he thought 'she might be the one'...

Apollonia was married when she was working with Prince...first marriage reportedly from 1980 to 1985, and married a different guy in '87. She left Apollonia 6 in 1985. Wouldn't have been anything for Prince to nix if Dave dated her between '85 and '87.

Bottom line: even if he does turn out to be heavy metal's Rock Hudson, it will be neither shocking nor something that would lessen my appreciation of his work.

It IS just weird, though, when I think about it, how (far as I can recall) not a single woman - EVER - has come forward to spill the inside dirt on her relationship/encounter/one night stand/whatever with the man. Especially in this age of tell-alls. Like, did Roth get every woman he was ever with to sign a lifetime non-disclosure agreement? Or was he just that savvy at gauging which women he could trust to be discreet?

Dave has always been good at keeping his private life private. Is he a strange guy? Yup. Van Halen was the best freak show going and Dave was the head freak. My only problem with Dave is he liked disco. Dave's main problem was he did too much coke in the day then his hair started falling out and grung rolled in and killed the whole Sunset Strip thing VH helped bring in. Spandex and big hair died and Roth was who invented that whole thing.

Could be Dave's encounters with women were so unremarkable and far less frequent than legend leads one to believe... that frankly, there's no savvy nor non-disclosure agreement necessary. I've come to the conclusion Dave is all hat and no cattle.

Clearly the fact of not a single woman has come forward to spill the inside dirt on Dave indicates he hasn't properly pissed off any women... That... is far, far too easy for any man!
