CNN Reports First Charges Filed in Mueller Investigation

CNN Reports First Charges Filed in Mueller Investigation

CNN is reporting tonight that the first charges have been filed in Robert Mueller‘s investigation. The indictment is sealed so it’s unclear who has been charged or what the charges themselves are. Reports suggest that the sealed indictment will be revealed on Monday, perhaps Tuesday, raising speculation who is the first target of the Special Counsel.

    Per CNN:

The charges are still sealed under orders from a federal judge. Plans were prepared Friday for anyone charged to be taken into custody as soon as Monday, the sources said. It is unclear what the charges are.

There is lots of speculation why these are sealed indictments. CNN Contributor John Dean later suggested during a panel discussion on AC360 that it is often a tactic meant to get the subject to flip. Former Federal Prosecuter Michael Zeldin also made salient points that sealed indictments are often used when the subject is viewed as a flight risk. He also suggested that, given the information currently available, that Paul Manafort is a reasonable guess of who Mueller is targeting in this indictment.

You can watch CNN’s report above.

We will update this post as more information comes in.

Probably Flynn or Paul Manafort, most likely the latter...

And finally Trump shuts up on Twitter, perhaps taking the lawyers' advice for once. We'll see if he can keep from a Sunday Twatting explosion when the cats are away...

Well, the Trump counter narrative has been bloviating full-force over the past few days about the Democratic Party connections to the firm and individual who helped compile the notorious Trump dossier.

It'll be reasonable to assume Trump will have surrogates on the Sunday morning shows trying to downplay or undercut the significance of the charges, even though the charges are still under seal (thus they will be castigating against something they haven't even read yet).

I can't be bothered watching cable news or the network Sunday political shows pontificate endlessly over the contents of charges when the indictments are for now under seal.

Plus, Mueller can make all the charges he wants: without Congressional will to undertake the proper proceedings subsequent to the indictments being made, Mueller can't enforce anything.

Trump won't resign unless, like Nixon, he sees removal as inevitable. Assuming Pence is clean in all of this, a Pence Presidency could even be worse than Trump's. Pence has been bought and paid for by the Kochs several hundred thousand times over already, and Pence (unlike Trump) is stable enough, disciplined enough and has the strength of his ideological convictions to the point where a Pence Presidency could do some real legislative damage.

I'll breathe a sigh of relief when Trump is gone (however/whenever that happens) in terms of the sheer instability of the guy re: holding the nuclear codes. But outside of that existential concern, Pence gives me little comfort.

At least it could be seen as a step forward to have a rampant homosexual as president.

So deep in the closet he's in Narnia but still...

Are you referring to Mike Pence, or Mark Cuban in 2020?

                      Manafort.

                      Huh.

He didn't look so confident as he was surrendering this morning. Looks like a stool pigeon/flipped rat.

Expect the Trump "Hillary is bad" distraction attempts to quadruple beyond the frequency they were increased to at the end of last week.

The question is if Manafort was indicted for things directly related and expressly tied to the 2016 Trump campaign, or solo activity.

They seem to be going down the uranium story again even though it was disproved last year as a non story by people like republican founded factcheck.org.

Two House committees have said that they will investigate the Obama administration’s approval of a deal that gave Russia a financial interest in U.S. uranium production. We covered the issue during the 2016 presidential campaign. We'll recap here what we know – and don’t know -- about the 2010 deal.
