Conspiracy Theorists Are More Likely To Be "Losers"


Ah, I guess we’ve reached that stage, haven’t we? We've already learned that conspiracy theorists want to feel somewhat more unique than their rational counterparts. Now, it also turns out they’re more likely to be “losers”.

But wait! Let’s clarify here. We’re not talking about the derogatory form of the word losers. Rather, the study notes that people whose candidate loses an election are more likely to turn to conspiracy theories. Ah!

This is based on a new study in the journal Political Research Quarterly that looked at the behavior of people before and after an election. Led by Jack Edelson from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the researchers used a survey of 1,230 Americans, which was conducted before and after the 2012 US presidential election. So, not Trump.

The findings were quite interesting. Prior to the election, 62 percent of people said that if their candidate lost, they thought voter fraud would be involved. But after the election, only 39 percent believed the same. Obama, of course, won that election, so Republicans were more likely to think that some sort of voter manipulation was at play.

What's more, people who were more likely to believe in conspiracy theories predicted that if their candidate lost, it would be partially because of voter fraud.

“Conspiracy theories are for losers,” co-author Joseph Uscinski from the University of Miami told PsyPost. “Conspiracy theories follow the ebb and flow of power and losers tend to propagate them the most.”

Now, following Trump’s victory, the cries of voter fraud are coming from the left. To us, things seem a bit different this time around though. Republicans in 2012 cried foul when certain districts appeared to show 100 percent of their vote went to Obama.

There was a good reason for this though, namely that some of these districts had voter turnouts as low as 139 in heavily Democrat-supporting areas. No evidence of election rigging has ever been found.

Compare that to now, and there are a lot of rather unnerving signs that Russia played a role in Trump’s election. Investigations are still ongoing, but looking at these two elections together might not be the fairest comparison.

Two separate studies in August found that people who believed in conspiracy theories did so because they wanted to feel unique. Maybe, after their candidate has lost an election, that desire is greater than ever.

Ha! Dang. The John Birch Society has always been viewed as extreme even in the Republican Party. No I would say your average Republican is kind of the Newt Gingrich type. Even Ted Cruz seems extreme to some Republicans. The big problem with politics in either party is pandering to the big money and corruption. Everyone is eating out of the same trough. I think Donna Brazile's book explains the current Democrat Party quite accurately. You had hanger on's draining the Democrat payroll. People who should have been let go because they were no longer needed or needed in the first place and they created a $2 Million deficit. Brazile comes into this mess and then Hillary has all sorts of ill gotten money in her foundation and basically Hillary bought the Democrat Party and scared poor Donna to death. Basically a deep pocketed gangster took over the party. Then of course you have such a compromised justice system these thugs have no fear of going to jail and they get away with some crazy shit. Yup. The Koch's were in bed with the commies and the Bush's were in bed with the nazis. The John Birch Society really has no pull in right wing politics though. It's a fringe group. Mention the John Birchers around most Republicans and you will get laughs and rolling eyes. There really isn't any difference between both parties. Both are bought and paid for. John McCain might as well be a Democrat. Out of all the US presidents still alive Jimmy Carter is the only outsider. All the rest of them were controlled by the Bush intelligence machine. Clinton allowed drugs to be flown into Mena, Arkansas. Obama was aboard the Bush boat. O probably was a CIA asset (Bush asset). It's pretty evident Donna Brazile who pretty much spent most her life in the Democrat Party and has been a big player in it knows her party is self-destructing. The Clinton political machine was able to bully her but now since all the Clinton corruption is being exposed Donna is exposing the corruption she personally saw. In short she's saying the party needs new people leading it or it ain't going to last. She also inferred the people leading it don't give a shit about the party. Hell they sucked the resources out of it until they broke it.

I think the source for this is a copy of an email from Wikileaks with someone on the Clinton staff suggesting it as an idea. Given these emails went via Russians and everything else that has gone on, I don't think people should be taking anything from that as a concrete source never mind then building it up further.

Proper evidence is going out the window these days - what's to stop the people who fed the emails to change text here and there or even for someone at Wikileaks to do so?
