Always cracks me up when they list The Gorge as "Seattle". It's literally on the other side of the mountains and 3 hours away, for fucks sake.

Not that I'm going to be making the trip for that show. Now... if I could take Doc Brown's DeLorean back to a double bill of Def Leppard with Pete Willis & Journey before Paula White's husband ruined the band, that might be another story.

I see Phil Collen is on this year's G3 tour. I haven't been able to find who else is in his band.

They've got some balls booking several stadiums....

I'm sure it would be a decent night at the amphitheater here, sitting on the lawn with a few brews, but they're gonna be hard-pressed to fill a baseball stadium.....

They'll probably fill the Key Bank Center here, mainly because nothing else will be going on. I can't say I'm excited about seeing replace-a-member, prosthetic-Journey, but I wouldn't mind seeing Def if they didn't have a giant backing track going...

This is what I hate so much about your cretin generation. You don't know when you go the fuck away. You just keep on keeping on recycling yourselves. ""Classic rock" is fucking dead.

Kristy just because you were at college with them doesn't make you a millennial.

Tough shit but you are Generation X like the rest of us (apart of course from Zahzoo who is a baby boomer).

I saw this exact double bill around ten years ago in Tampa, in an amphitheater, and it was exactly as you described: a decent night out.

Maybe the baseball stadium gigs are happening on dates where there is a 1 or 4 PM game, then the concert starts after the game: I can't imagine this double bill is strong enough to fill a 40-60,000 seat baseball stadium solely on the strength of the bands alone. The venue I saw them at ten years ago seats 20,000 at total capacity, with around 10,000 actual chair seats and 10,000 on the lawn. There was an ample amount of empty chair seats, and the lawn was nowhere near full. They drew a decent crowd, but didn't sell the place out. Tickets were still available the day of the show.

I will say, Journey put on a great show. Sounded great, played great. And this was with Jeff Scott Soto handling most of the lead vocals for them.

Def Leppard have never been, to my mind, a fantastic live band. Saw them on the Hysteria tour in the 1980s, and the stage was the most memorable thing about that. Ten years ago, it was readily obvious that Leppard were using backing tapes, which is why I had to laugh at Sesh's Love And Affection comment. In addition to the tapes, Joe Elliott was intentionally ducking all the high notes in the tunes, to the point where some of the tunes were rearranged to facilitate this (e.g. Photograph stopping at the point where he says "I wanna touch you" and lurching into another song, so as to avoid the high range elongated scream at the end).

While Journey may well still be worth seeing live, Def Leppard live really isn't anything worth anyone's time.

The biggest ballpark on that list is probably Skydome/Rogers Center. Most parks now are around 30-35k capacity. The stage will likely be in the outfield, so no bleacher seating, and maybe the sections behind light and sound towers won't be sold. Or no upper level seats sold...who knows. They won't have floor seats on the infield, what they lose in the bleachers will be on the floor.

Tickets here start "just under $50," as the Plain Dealer reported but I didn't look to see what they topped out at.

I'd say between $50 and $100 per ticket - and closer to $50 than $100 - for decent seats for that double bill would be appropriate. Unless there has been some massive surge in the popularity of either of those bands in the last decade in terms of drawing power that I'm unaware of, $100 and up per ticket doesn't sound reasonable, even when taking into account inflation today vs. ten years ago. Like, I don't think either band individually could roll into Tampa and play Amalie Arena with some no-name opening act, charge $50 a ticket and sell the venue out: the strength IS the double bill.

$130 and up sounds like prime seating.

I'm actually ok with the ducking notes thing. I saw Blondie a few months back and Debbie Harry just didn't sing the stuff she couldn't sing any more. That's fine. Latterly Geddy Lee was doing the same thing with Rush. No problem at all.

What pisses me off is backing tapes filling it in. I just feel what's the point I could be at home listening to this? Backing vocals is bad enough but the minute it's anything else it's worse than American Idol and I have no interest in it.

Def Leppard albums particularly on Hysteria is built on lots of incredibly simple guitar parts overdubbed, combined with electronic drums and 100 backing vocal tracks.

I don't know where they draw the line exactly but the temptation once you cross the line is more is better and if you are using some tapes why not more and it all becomes pointless.

There has been massive criticism of Van Halen live in the last 10 years but you have to at least admire they have retained live performance integrity.

    Wrong again as usual, Tutankhamun.

Your generation is a generation of sell-outs, drug addicts, and white nationalists who never finished high school.

    Mmmm...

When it reaches the point where the tunes can't be sung properly...when the singer is just too old to do it...at that point, why not just get another singer in there who CAN do it?

Either that, or just pack it in.

I guess it depends on how many concessions one is willing to make in terms of allowances for age.

The Blondie thing it was only maybe 5% if that of the show.

So what was maybe a high lead vocal line plus backing vocals became just backing vocals.

    It just seemed sensible.

Like, I don't think either band individually could roll into Tampa and play Amalie Arena with some no-name opening act, charge $50 a ticket and sell the venue out: the strength IS the double bill.

$130 and up sounds like prime seating.
You tell me. Seems like they think everywhere is "prime seating": http://keybank.centerbuffalo.com/Tic...8&venueID=1929

Maybe prices drop as we get closer and tix don't sell...

    Jesus!

So the KeyBank seats around 25,000 + for concert events, where the floor isn't taken up by a basketball court or ice rink (those sporting events can seat around 19,000).

The BASELINE ticket pricing from that link for that Leppard/Journey show STARTS at just over $130 bucks.

While I'd imagine both bands get some sort of guarantee, I'm kinda baffled as to whoever is promoting this gig: does said promoter actually think these two bands are going to sell 20,000 tickets starting at $130 per ticket?

I mean, maybe so, but I'd agree with you that one would tend to think those prices will drop as the gig approaches.

I simply can't imagine this double bill filling a twenty thousand seat arena these days, particularly when they couldn't do it in my area ten years ago.

I suppose I could be wrong about that...it'll be of interest to see how many people actually end up getting tickets for the show and if prices do drop (and by how much) as May approaches.

In the arena here they frequently book bands that will only half fill it and then put black sheets across the upper levels which kind of works but with this one it seems weird having all the disadvantages of a stadium gig without the big crowd.

BTW I'm assuming that Journey are on first since Def Leppard have sold more albums and (a bit) more recently, headlined the last time the 2 bands toured, and still have their singer?

Plus in the publicity pics Def Leppard are a lot taller.

Oh and as if they didn't have enough fighting within their band I see Johnathan Cain has married Trumps chief heretical televangelist...

I'm not sure who organizes non-sporting events at the KBC, but my guess is Pegula Sports and Entertainment. They're not noted for their overall competence at organizing events and was (Bills and Sabres owner) Terry Pegula's attempt at tweaking Jeremy Jacobs (Boston Bruins owner) who owns Delaware North that is headquartered in Buffalo, a large concessions company that handles stadium and arena sales around the world...

I don't know if they have no fucking idea how to handle name concerts for older white people with disposable income or they just figure there is nothing else going on here, 'so come down to Canalside and get pissed at our shit sports-bar and watch a eve-of-summer concert in a pretty good location!'

There was talk of Neil Schon being very pissed that some of the band effectively endorsed Trump. Not that he necessarily voted for Clinton, but that he didn't want the band to be involved in politics at all..

And am I the only one tired of fucking Phil Collen and his fucking shirt off? We get it Phil, you gave up drinking like a liquor store draining bum and keep in shape. But FFS, no girls below the age of 45 give a fuck at this point!

    Then there's this

More recently, Cain has established a tandem career in solo faith music after marrying Paula White-Cain, a minister who delivered the invocation at Donald Trump's presidential inauguration. Schon indicates that this has become a point of contention.

"I've stated how I felt about mixing religion and politics and how our music is not of one religion - Democratic or Republican," Schon said in the same Instagram update. "This is and has been an issue with myself Mr. Cain and his now wife, since he married. I've had to fight this whole time to protect the brand I built with Steve Perry, way before Gregg and I picked Cain to replace himself when he wanted to retire from the road back then. Well frankly, I'm tired of having to defend all by my self. [Fellow co-founding Journey member] Ross [Valory] is no help."

So why doesn't he just kick that pussy Cain out of the band and bring Gregg Rolie back?

I probably still wouldn't pay to see them, but it would still be a good thing for what's left of the band.

Plus, Journey is just fucking awful.

I've tried to listen to their shit and cannot make it though one album in its entirety - especially, especially that Mike Stone, Kevin Elson produced shit. Every band that Stone molested all sound exactly the same: Journey, Asia, Queen, and the racist named Whitesnake. Same tiresome guitar riffs, same drum patterns, same vocal styling. Same. Then again, this is how your shitty, retarded generation sold itself out: repetitive mediocrity power pop ballads. This is why I hate you all.

Their greatest hits albums are okay, but yeah, a studio album is a turd fest with some radio friendly hits...

    Gems? Really?

Journey wrote and played the most queefy, sappy, and ridiculous power pop crap on the planet. How they did it was no secret: their ace in the (ass)hole was a singer who could pull a pseudo soul vibe without too much criticism. No one in white suburban America ever criticized a white man singing black unless of course that person is Michael Bolton or Michael McDonald.

Oh course they did!! But they did it better. Neither Michael McDonald nor Bolton ever a hit nor enduring cultural significance like Journey has! No one is ending one of the best series in history with "How Can I Live Without You"...

Now THOSE are more reasonable prices.

Particularly considering you're gonna pay around $20 for parking and at least another $20 if you want a couple of beers during the show.

    Granted...

However, they are one of those bands who can go out on tour and even the most casual fan - who knows the band only from what they've heard on radio or MTV - will know virtually every song in a 15 to 20 song set list.
