And the two key members are still there, Joe Elliot and the guy that works the tapes backstage...

Couldn't agree more about Phil Collen it's fucking pathetic - still waiting for the autobiography when we hear how him and Phil Lewis used to suck dick for money in the early days of Girl. Allegedly.
I don't pay much attention to Journey but they seem to be just about the only band more fucked up than Van Halen. In a pretour interview Neil Schon is saying how he doesn't like video screens in the big venues because it causes fights between band members about how much time they each get on screen.
These people are in their 60s FFS!

Yeah...however, the number of older rock acts out there touring without the original/founding/definitive lineups far outweighs those who actually have all the original/founding/definitive members. Sadly, it's not as egregious as it once was. So the fact Journey isn't...small potatoes.
Leppard only have 3 founding members out of 5. But I'd agree that they have most of the definitive lineup there. And at least in the case of Clark he died as an explanation for his lack of participation, rather than 'creative differences' or whatever lame euphemism bands use for when a certain member wants a bigger cut of the profits than the rest of the band are willing to pay.

And the guitarist they fired was early on before they really broke it big. Fired for alcoholism from Def Leppard is like a race car driver being fired for speeding!
Yep. Old Pete Willis. Given the axe during the Pyromania sessions because he showed up drunk to a recording session, and was apparently quite a little booze hound back in the day. Seemingly, Willis eventually cleaned himself up a bit. Sadly, the same couldn't be said for Clark, who basically boozed and coked himself up literally to death. Young guy when he died, too.
Dave Mustaine getting sacked from Metallica probably falls into that category as well. It's not like those guys were known for sobriety in the 80s.
Just got an email from the Rocksino...G3 tickets half off. Satriani, Petrucci, and Phil Collen.

Yeah. That was my reaction when I first saw G3 was playing the casino. The first G3 was in a much bigger room here. Vai, Eric Johnson, Satch, in that order.
Which...and, I mean, honestly, not to belittle Collen's ability...but he just isn't as accomplished or has ever displayed near the amount of technical prowess as the other two on the bill. And you pretty much go to a G3 show to see and jaw-dropping technical ability and a guitar solo wankfest. Like, Collen might want to consider doing his set first, because if he goes on last...it'll be kinda laughable: he just doesn't stack up to the other two players on the bill.
I'm sure Satch closes.
I was going to post that Phil Collen can take comfort in making so much more money but I just looked it up and Satch has sold over 10 million solo albums.
I had no idea it was as many as that, and he doesn't need to split everything 5 ways all the time.
Doubt these things are super accurate but the internet says Petrucci is worth $3.2 million, Satch is worth $12 million and Collen $20 million which is a valuable lesson in the monetary value of catchy tunes v. technical wizardry.

Well, that whole guitar hero angle...it's a niche market, and sort of an antiquated one. Antiquated in the sense that the influence of shredding in commercial terms and influence peaked decades ago. When I hear contemporary rock bands today, or pop tunes with a rock flavor, I don't hear much in the way of technical wizardry far as guitar parts go. Not nearly as much as I heard in the 1980s. The grunge bands of the early 1990s didn't emphasize that aspect of the guitar. The vast majority of Satriani's record sales came from albums he released in 1987, 1989 and 1992. His post-1992 stuff never even got halfway to gold, and in many cases didn't even sell 100,000 copies.
I could be wrong but I don't think Satriani and Vai would have pissed all that amazing bubble of late 80s early 90s money away on cocaine and whores though like some of their contemporaries.
I was reading the other day how Boris Becker managed to get through over a hundred million...

I like Satch , I have fond memories of his twiddly albums but I do feel he is a little bit tainted by the chickfool connection.

I saw the maybe 90's-something VH1 ("Behind the Music?") special on Def Leppard and Phil was bragging how he quit drinking and worked out like a fiend. But nobody really gives a fuck and to try to market himself like that at his age is really a bizarre testament to vanity he could get away with if he was at least somewhat subtle about it...
I guess their episode is on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDI4xgQ27R8
I saw on Peter Frampton's FB page that he's going to be a special guest on a couple of shows as well....
EDIT: Actually it's going to be Frampton on some, The Pretenders on some, and Foreigner as well.....

Phil Collen has left Def Leppard to attend to a family emergency. Steve Brown from Trixter is filling in for him. Brown covered Vivian Campell while Campell was out for cancer treatment.

They were here last night. I didn't know Collen had left until I read the review on the Plain Dealer site. There were plenty of pics, the Twixter guy plays Wolfgangs.
I didn't look at what tickets were available. Didn't see any pop up on any of the buy/sell/trade groups I'm in.
Maybe next they'll kick Joe Elliot out of the band and replace him with Roseanne Barr. Apparently she needs a new gig.
Terry (06-02-2018)
The most ridiculous thing about that Barr stuff is her saying Soros was in the SS.
If you can't take the time to check fucking snopes at least think for a second about how old he would need to be and check his age...
I was in Hungry recently and the irony about that stuff is that his mortal enemy is the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban who is the closest thing we have in Europe at the moment to a Nazi leader. He's where Trump wants to get to, getting his rich friends to buy and close down any media that criticises him - scary stuff.

If people are getting their history lessons from Rosanne Barr that's even more scary. Twitter just sent a show with great ratings down the shitter. My advice. Don't talk religion or politics and just smile for the camera and tell people what they want to hear and rake in the cash.
I never saw the show, I never could stand the original even back in the days when it followed Cheers here on a Friday night and we only had 4 channels and no internet. I tried but I just didn't like it.
When I heard she had relaunched it with her as a Trump supporter I assumed it was going to be some satirical thing but apparently not.
Rosanne was popular because when it first aired it was the opposite of the Cosby Show. Rosanne was more real with a family with problems and warts. People loved it and it wasn't a conservative show at all. The bottom line is the establishment has managed to divide the country along political lines to the extent to where if you are a Trump supporter in a liberal profession, it's career suicide. Also, blabbing dumb shit on social media doesn't help. Rosanne killed her show overestimating her importance to ABC. That's ok. Network television will be gone in ten years and ABC will no longer exist. Who knows, Rosanne might return on an online channel in the future. There seems to be a market for it still.
Times have changed...
