Ricky Gervais: ‘Van Halen want to ban Karl Pilkington’s cover of ‘Jump”

By NME Sep 12, 2011

Comedian says rockers are preventing clip from being shown in America

Ricky Gervais has revealed that Van Halen have tried to ban a cover of their song ‘Jump’ recorded by television star Karl Pilkington.

According to The Sun, the classic rock band are so unimpressed with Pilkington‘s rendition of the track – which he performed with an American chorus group for the latest series of his show An Idiot Abroad – The Bucket List – that they are preventing it from being screened in America or included on the programme’s DVD. However, it will still be shown in the UK.

Gervais, who devised An Idiot Abroad along with writing partner Stephen Merchant, also revealed that Pilkington had been suffering from nerves before the performance and that he had forgotten the song’s words. He said:

Van Halen are trying to put a stop on it, because it is that bad. But Sky have got a blanket agreement so we can put it out in England. But we can’t put it out in America or on the DVD.

Earlier this year, Van Halen confirmed that they were entering the studio to work on their first album with original singer David Lee Roth in 27 years.

Van Halen may have had a point, I detest that Glee shit. This is funny though...
