Trump's Call For A 'Space Force' Makes Him The Laughingstock Of The Galaxy


President Donald Trump thinks the United States should launch a “Space Force,” a branch of the military devoted to wars in space.

“Space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air and sea,” Trump said on Tuesday at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. “We may even have a Space Force, develop another one, Space Force. We have the Air Force, we’ll have the Space Force.”

At first, Trump said he wasn’t serious about the notion.

“Then I said, ‘What a great idea!’ Maybe we’ll have to do that,’” Trump said. “So think of that: Space Force, because we are spending a lot and we have a lot of private money coming in, tremendous.”

He also described the U.S. military as “vital to ensuring America continues to lead the way into the stars.”

The whole concept sounds wacky as hell... I'm not sure that a new military branch can be created by presidential decree. I believe Congress has to authorize it and a bill for this, last year failed in the House. All I can say is our time and tax dollars can be spent in much more important ways...

The USAF already has a "space command" that quietly coordinates the Armed Services and is taking the lead on any space based activity and some even claim we have "non-terrestrial officers" or secret military astronauts and this proclamation is decades too early. The USAF is taking the lead and has considered some sort of unified military service based loosely on the US Coast Guard in rank, structure and purpose...

We are not supposed to go to war without congress declaring it. That doesn't stop us from bombing the shit out of people. We used to call it a police action. Now it's called spreading democracy. The government is full of crooks. They all have a get out of jail free card. They really don't give a shit. Sure our time and tax dollars can be spent in better ways. How many trillion have we wasted in Iraq? Trump campaigned on rebuilding our infrastructure. I don't see that being done. I think that takes priority over Space Force.

The president is commander in chief of the US military forces. He has a lot of power over military operations. He can't declare war. He does not control the purse. He probably can create a new military branch on his own but he can't finance it without house approval.

Reminds me of the crap Reagan got when he announced the Star Wars program. People called him Ronald Ray Gun and made all sorts of fun at it.
