Garth Brooks is Playing "Live" at Notre Dame Stadium

So, what do Garth Brooks and his audience, of presumably kids that weren't even born when he had his one big hit he didn't even write, have in common?

They're both singing along with a track of Garth Brooks singing...

Caught a few tunes on the televised broadcast last night (wife is a fan...while I don't hate his music, none of it is essential to me), and it was clear from the get-go Brooks was lip synching. Like, WAY clear. Like, Brooks wasn't even making a decent attempt to lip synch the tunes.

That's disappointing. I actually saw Garth live back in 1998 or thereabouts and he put on one Hell of a live show. No lip syncing or anything of the sort then. Just a great energetic performance. I'd actually rate it within the top 5 concerts I've ever seen.

I know he took a decade or so off from performing to raise his kids and I respect the commitment for doing so, but I know he's done some legitimate live performances since then. Can't imagine why he would resort to fakery.

I dunno if it was just a case of using pre-canned vocals for the tv broadcast, because there were a dozen or so points during the songs where he would say "yee-haw!" or "come on and sing it with me!" and THOSE bits seemed to be live...it almost seemed like he was either singing along with pre-recorded vocals, or he was singing live and the pre-recorded stuff was just for the broadcast and was edited in over the live vocals in the stadium, because when he would yell out to the audience the vocal audio level dropped slightly. Or there was a slight delay between him singing and the audio of that being broadcasted.

Thing of it is, lip synching has become so ubiquitous for a variety of live music styles now it's not even a shock anymore. It's more shocking when I see a show and the vocals actually ARE live.
