    Cult Of Personality

30th anniversary (Jesus) of this on SNL.

Generally good but for a long time now I've had a nagging suspicion that the guitar solos are just shitty attempts at shredding by someone that wasn't good at it. Many of us have done the same at one point or another but not to millions of people.

It's one of those Art v Technique questions especially as the album version at least does kind of work - discuss.

Oh it was a catchy song but you are right. The shredding part is uninteresting. Nothing more than playing some notes in the upper register and hitting the whammy a few times. The rhythm bit sounds decent and what made that band was the singer. They did their thing and had a maybe three good songs and that's the thing. It's all about the songs. If you got good songs and you can keep cranking them out you can last. Most bands can't do it for various reasons and as Jack Black said about Rush some bands have a big bottle of rocket sauce. Oh well. Living Colour was a nice snack for the time.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!
