For me...I was never that crazy for the original Top Gun, even back in the day. It was just this fairly simple, sort of dumb popcorn flick that did have some good stuff with the flying scenes...it has never quite become this cultural, iconic movie touchstone for me over the years as it has for a lot of other people.

I think this sequel could be okay exactly because the original wasn't something I considered to be all that great to begin with, in that the bar isn't set so high for me in terms of Top Gun Maverick having some impossible standard to live up to.

I've sort of been lukewarm about Tom Cruise movies in general since the mid-1990s, although when I have gotten around to watching things like Oblivion or...what the fuck was it...something like The Edge Of Tomorrow or The Day After Tomorrow...I ended up enjoying them. I didn't care for the first Mission Impossible flick, although from my understanding the other Mission Impossible flicks are well-made action movies.

Plus, Mrs. Terry fuckin' LOVES the first Top Gun movie, so I know we're going to see Maverick when it comes out, so my hope is that it is a decent action flick: at least it isn't some Marvel comic book movie or another Star Wars flick.
