EAT US AND SMILE
uh...welp...that's that. Glad I was there for the last run.
Well...okay then
Bring on the John 5 album
Writing In All Proper Case Takes Extra Time, Is Confusing To Read, And Is Completely Pointless.
Rolling Stone picked up the story too
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/m...5WazLiH80nk5T4
I say within a week we'll be hearing from Hagar about this.
Kind of related. Kind of dumb, too. Telling that the guy has comments disabled.
Yup, he is basically a poor man's Eddie Trunk and one cannot get worst than that. Knows no one in the respective camps and is a fan of Van Hagar... sort of that nerd type who started liking Van Halen when he felt the sound and morality of Dave's bravado was no longer a hindrance, and he could then feel cool being a fan lol
I got lost in the...
The VHND article's comments has a few of the good ol' "I wish they'd just tell us SOMETHING, we deserve it!" comments and, of course, speculation that Dave's comments mean Hagar is returning.
Again I say...if Dave knows what's going on with Ed, good for him for keeping it quiet.
Who knows but my best guess is after a couple of attempts to get a tour going again Eddie is now basically retired.
I think people taking Dave's comments as Hagar coming back are completely kidding themselves although with Van Halen you can never be 100% sure about anything.
What is now ruled out is that this was a temporary thing.
How pricky...
Not announcing the band done, really. Just Dave revealing it sourly, and quickly skip to his solo thing in Vegas.
What about the thousands of fans who paid their tickets and drove or flew for miles to attend their gigs? Don't they deserve being addressed for a couple of minutes? Would it tear down their jaws to say a few words?
As it's often been said here, VH is the worst band in the world as far as fan treatment, except for Mike Anthony...
As if we needed further proof.
I think I won't follow that Vegas circus with much benevolence, to day the least.
As for the Hagar possibility, that would be the last straw.
I was just at the Links and its hilarious reading Hagarites getting all excited, grabbing their vaginas over a Van Hagar reunion.
When that would be the furthest from Ed's mind at this point. He doesn't want to go out and play. Hes content with living his comfortable life without the ongoing drama of his famous rock band.
Well, if VH is done, I hope it's for good and Sam doesn't ooze onto the scene again. The world doesn't need to hear Up For Breakfast ever again.
I think it's telling that he's even talking about releasing the John 5 album he recorded in '14. Ed drives the train, so I'm guessing he's done- whether for health reasons or otherwise.
If its over then so be it
I was around from the get go and was lucky enough to see them multiple times as the original line up, and then again in 07/08 and 12'.
I passed on the 15' tour as I really didn't want to see a greatest hits package and vowed that I will never see them unless Michael was in and they had some new material to play.
What can one say except "thank you" and "fuck you" in the same breath to the greatest band ever
Funny my post count is 1979 the year I saw them live for the 1st time!
Some of the comments on RS have Ed one foot in the grave. Someone needs to answer this. Even though it's none of our business, the silence is deafening.
" You ever notice when I scream I sound like Mr. Bill on acid" DLR
I think Dave should give up on trying to reincarnate Van Halen which is a ego and revenge driven bad fantasy and focus on his skin care line. I think he had some good ideas there. Dave no longer can sing but he’s in good shape and he’s been an avid outdoorsman. That should be his main thing now. Go design some outdoor products that nobody quite got right.
More dumb comments on the Blabbermouth version of the story
https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/da...n-is-finished/
Dave may be fed up, but he wouldn't be talking like this if it were for sure a major health problem for Ed and he knew about it.
A week or two ago, Dave was saying that the band may tour again...a new album is possible...etc.
He knows shit. He's probably had an extra drink right before this interview and is pissed off that the band is back to their, "We've got fans' money/we don't need to work/don't answer the phone" status.
There's no way it's Hagar. I'm sure the sheep at the Links are salivating gouda...but would Hagar really go back if Mike were not invited? Those two are practically fuckin' married at this point. If something has been in the works with Cheese-head, then Mike wouldn't have spoken up recently and stated that there was talk of a tour with Dave but it fell through and he has not spoken to the band at all...
I enjoyed the reunion tour(s). I wasn't old enough to see them with Dave back in the day. Some fans got so fucking ANGRY at the band for touring with Wolf instead of Mike. I didn't give a shit. I remember Mike being front and center in the late 80s and 90s to talk about how much he didn't want Dave back. I remember in '96, when Dave was supposedly coming back, Mike gave a Dutch interview and stated that he didn't agree with Alex and Ed inviting Dave back, but he'd go along with it and see how it worked out. That mullet-wearing fuck still wanted to throw Dave under the bus, even then. I was then later supposed to give a shit that Alex, Ed and Dave were on stage playing classic songs (and "new" songs in 2012) and start crying foul that Mike wasn't there?
Mother fuck that.
I never understood some fans getting so angry that it wasn't all four. Even if he'd been there, it STILL would not be 1984...no matter what people think. Wolf is a strong musician. He did fine. It was his idea to rescue a lot of great old songs that never got aired on the classic albums. That idea possibly made ADKOT one of the stronger reunion albums in existence. I wasn't going to say no. Dave was back. Dave is the main reason I ever got into Van Halen. That has never changed.
Mike showed no loyalty to Dave from 1986-2004. Why should Dave have such loyalty in return?
Anyway, it's a moot point. Dave says they're done.
Now then, last week he said they could come back.
He has NO idea what's going on. He's either frustrated...or more likely, he's saying shit like this to kick up extra attendance for his Vegas run. People would be more excited to see him solo if they knew he's not just between Van Halen tours.
This band DOES treat their fans like shit. Not Dave necessarily...but the band. The Van Halen brothers.
LED ZEPPELIN is considered one of the most private and non-productive bands about opening up their archives and giving fans stuff about which they've been dreaming for years...at least until recently. Yet, VAN HALEN is even worse. The 6-pack keeps getting re-released. No bonus tracks. No unreleased songs. No concert vids. No live albums from the classic days. No Oakland '81. No other Blu-ray. Nothing. It's a joke. They keep living the fantasy that each song on each album was done in one take, there were no songs left off any album, none of the concerts were filmed or recorded, there is no worthwhile documentary footage, etc.
If they wanna keep fans satiated while they sit around the house masturbating and eating corn chips, they should put out a big box set with Blu-rays, CDs...full of original footage, home movies, concert footage, unreleased songs... The fans would leave them alone for a while. Fuck it, I'd rather a box set like that than another tour.
But they would only put something out if Eddie put it together (control-freak)...and Ed clearly doesn't like working.
Mind you, in a lot of spaces in my own life, I've been in hiding. Been living very comfortably, relaxing...staying out of the limelight...getting back to people after a few days (weeks)... I can understand the mentality of a hermit.
But I don't have a few million fans.
Some fans hated TOKYO DOME. I loved it. No overdubs...warts 'n' all...VH in all their glory for better or worse.
But now it's time to released something truly classic...while they keep hiding in their Hollywood cave.
So they're not touring anymore? No shit. We all knew that.

Nice to see you posting Rikk©! Been a while, pal.
I've been traveling and given this latest chapter some thought and have browsed some of the fan comments...
My assessment: Eddie and Alex have no business commitment with any entity left in what constitutes the "music industry" to produce music in any form or do a damn thing. The only thing that would get them out of their houses would be motivation to perform while they still can, money, or just their love of music... key word is "motivation" which they clearly lack... either through musical passion, contractual obligation or financial need...
Not interested and lazy is the easy road and comfy, familiar territory for those boys... Why hassle it..?
I don't buy into any delusions of the Van Halens desiring to work with any other past members or form any new musical partnerships with anyone, ever... That's really the one smart move they have going for them! There's no superior musical chemistry on earth nor the history of mankind than Diamond Dave teamed up with Ed's guitar, Alex's thunder and the Bass Player™, bless his heart... If ya can't make it great... why fucking do it..?
Dave seems to have tapped a musical motivation... warts, bad back, yelps, lack of melody, creepy old trollness and a markedly sub-standard, yet affordable, backing band aside... Good for him! The old fucker still has it in him and ain't ready to give in to the inevitable running out of time... no one gets out alive, but don't quit livin...

"If you want to be a monk... you gotta cook a lot of rice...”
Indeed.
I said it before: this is a Roth. People saying they're uninterested in a VH with Roth project because the bass player ain't there just doesn't make much sense to me. If anyone can sit through Backyard BBQ, go to some Sam 'n' Dave tour, pray for the EAT 'EM AND SMILE line-up to return, then they can dig Dave and Ed making music again, even without the bass player.
I'm sure I'm like a lot of fans left here in that I simply don't care as much as I used to.
In '96, the prospect of VH getting back together after 10 years gone was life-changing. I was only 21. It was huge news. Meant the whole world to me.
'07 and '12 were great...but I was on the verge of starting a family then, I was into so much music...it felt right and it was great. But it wasn't a highlight of my life. I was glad to get a new LP and see Dave onstage with the brothers. I've seen it 3 times now and got the one CD. If there's more, bonus. If not, a lot of things excite me in my life now.
Been through enough bad shit in my life to recognize that a band reuniting will never be a highlight of said life.
What was that 'ol saying?
Yes....

I really don't understand why Dave would think that 2 or 3 guitarists is a good way to play Classic Van Halen. I don't know who he is surrounded by nowadays I think it used to be Ray Luzier would find the musicians but at this point even I know of at least a few guitarists from who could do this gig really well on their own and finding a Michael Antony stand-in cannot be that difficult.
I really wonder what happened behind the scenes with these guys. Unfortunately there is no Noel Monk to dish the inside info...
