What happened? Did everyone keel over?
There are more people listening to the Tokyo live album than are on this site...and THAT is difficult to do!

Good point.
I've come back and have been posting recently. But really it does seem like a ghost town.
Maybe some of us got old and don't have time to sit here and chat anymore. LOL

Even Disc One? Whoa.
No news, nothing to talk about, and when there is news, it just more than likely is annoying disappointing or brings out the annoying people. When the John 5 collaboration drops, Maybe it'll get noisier here.

When Ed's dead, people will come over, posting how gutted they are and how EVH is going to be missed. All bullshit, of course.
I say he won't see 2020, so things are looking good for Rotharmy.com!!
Unless, of course, nobody gives a shit anymore for this message board. Which wouldn't surprise me in the least, with social media and all that...

The site represents what the artist has been delivering... not a lot. There's that direct effect in play... artist sits around on his lazy ass, fans find other ways to amuse themselves. Dave and the Van Halen boys missed a key concept in the 21st century. People aren't patient or forgiving enough to bother with waiting 3-5 years for something new. They don't even remember what happened 3 months ago...
A few notable former members have passed on but the rest of the jackasses and amazing personalities are still making life interesting wherever they are.
You get out of it what you put into it... I challenge anyone reading this... Step it up while it's still here!!

When you consider that this site has been up since...what, 2004?
And what have Van Halen from 2004 to today?
A tour with Hagar.
Another Best Of with some new Hagar tracks.
A tour with Roth.
A studio album, half of which was reworked 35 year old demos.
A tour with Roth.
A live album.
Another tour with Roth.
For Dave, you can add on the stint as Stern's terrestrial radio replacement, some solo shows and...Van Strummin' (?)
For 15 years, that's a meager output, and most of THAT output was concentrated on performing the back catalog (and I have as yet to hear ANYONE claim that any of the tours with Roth were anywhere near as good as when CVH was killing it). As Zoo says, people have lives to lead (one has to do SOMETHING to fill in the years waiting for the Van Halens and Dave to do...anything).
Indifference breeds apathy. Personally, I still enjoy coming here more to read what the longtime site members are up to than out of any Van Halen-inspired reason: that band has - let's be honest - pretty much over since they blew the Roth reunion in 1996. Roth went on to do some interesting stuff after 1996 - mostly between 1996 and 2003 - but Van Halen...yeah, they finally got their shit together and got it up for a few decent-to-good tours with Dave, but I'm not mistaking what that actually means.

I think I haven’t posted as much here in recent years because I think I’ve completely run out of ways to voice my disappointment in my favorite band. When Ed gave that interview around 2015, claiming the original 25 song demo was lost and no one in the band wanted to go through their live recordings and choose best performances, so they went with the lackluster Tokyo show, I pretty much gave up hope on them ever bringing me joy again. I do look forward to the release of the John 5 project. That’ll most definitely spark some up some decent discussions.

This site should be approaching it's 20 year anniversary... the 2004 dates on user accounts are due the site requiring a full rebuild after a notable night of coke, ho's and excessive drinking™... the hosting server didn't make it to sunrise...
2004 was just a (second?) rebuild if I remember right it started in 1999.

I'd be interested in hearing the John 5 stuff.
Far, far more interested in that than Dave's upcoming Vegas stint.
I'm cognizant that, in terms of selling tickets, Roth needs to do the Classic Van Halen Experience featuring David Lee Roth, because CVH is what the general public (or the non diehard Roth fans) are willing to pay to see and hear.
I was hopeful that Roth being back with the band would result in the band trying to hunt down, clean up and restore whatever CVH footage has been floating around in bootlegged form for decades and put out an official release of THAT stuff, where they could have put out a multi-dvd set and had the Tokyo Dome show as a bonus disc. Far whatever reason(s), the band opted not to do that and now even dvds are pretty much obsolete, anyway. Because, realistically, how hard would it have been to have sifted through that old CVH footage in terms of time? It wasn't as if the band were working at a furious, breakneck pace since Roth rejoined.

I prefer the old gray and yellow myself...
some meltdowns followed by years of zero band activity this is the result.

I may be the harbinger of death, or possibly rebirth, for this site; I haven't figured that one out yet. But I need a rabbit with a pancake on it's head. I must have it. Pass the syrup.

YES! Bring me my banana you furry bunny! Oh baby, you know what I like!
Yup. I was one of the hardcore ones from back in the fuckin' 90's on this site. A forum mod. I go back to the old Slawterhouse days. I'd stick my dick in a lightbulb socket if I thought I'd get a nut.
Then I got old. Going gray, got a mortgage, got grandkids, got sick, and retired on full SSA disability. I come by here once in a blue moon to stop geezing for a moment and remember what was. I guess most of the Old Guard hung up their armor and got on with life as well. Fuck the New Normal, I'd like the Old Normal back. But nothing's static. One day I expect to click on the site and get a 503 error. Been good knowing ya, boys.

I was also one of the first Slawterhouse lunatics. I don't recall my user name. I remember busting on FORD non-stop.
VH and DLR are both done. They just haven't been respectful enough to the fans to announce it.
Unless DLR does something meaningful soon, we're all done knowing each other.
What the fuck is DLR waiting for?
He was writing his next book THE TAO of DAVE over a decade ago. Instead of finishing it, he's drawing half-assed cartoons.
What about the John 5 album?
Meanwhile, we can all to VHND and watch re-cycled shit they've posted every 6 months for the past 8 years.

Good time to get my yearly post in. Been here since 2004. I got tired of people bitchin about how bad Dave is. On a Dave forum.

I understand there was a time when it got really out of hand but we don't censor opinions here. Weird sometimes that YouTube comments were way more positive than on his 'fan' site.
I think he has to take some of the blame for that himself though...
It's been quite awhile since Dave did anything meaningful...at least in terms of anything new, which is how I'd define meaningful. Not since...the ADKOT album...where at least there were new lyrics written for the old demo tracks.
All I've heard new since then has been the Ain't No Sunshine At Christmas or whatever the name of that track was that got posted a year or so ago. Outside of that, Dave put his name to a tattoo wax and did a Vegas stint and several opening dates for KISS before covid shut down the tour...and the Vegas/KISS gigs were old tracks, a good chunk of which Roth had been playing with Van Halen since 2007.
With that track record of the last 13 years or so, it's just...fruitless to even be a fan of Dave in contemporary terms: he hasn't been doing much, and the pace isn't likely to accelerate anytime soon and probably not at all.
I'd agree that Van Halen are done. In essence, they've been done since 1999. The last few tours with Roth were a decent coda, in that at least Ed eventually got his shit together and got his chops back, and if nothing else that put a more positive finish on it than had the band called it quits after the 2004 tour.
I suppose there hasn't been a retirement announcement because the band are keeping their options open going forward, but the fact of the matter is Ed has had long term health issues which appear to be catching up with him in a bad way. I'd be surprised if the band does anything in terms of appearances going forward, much less a CVH reunion.
If Dave could keep quiet for 5 minutes and let a guest talk, he would make an excellent talk show host.
But no Diamond Dave horseshit. The real David Roth talking with guests.
Even better, he should do an adventure show documenting his travels to exotic and dangerous places, which I believe he still does. He went to Everest again a few years ago.
And he should finish that second book he started more than 10 years ago.
What is he waiting for?
It's not for me to question his life, but as Biden would say "C'mon man"
Let's not forget though that times from a fan perspective have changed... significantly.
Back in their prime... and ours... the artists could turn out something new every 2-3 years and the time in between was filled with hundreds of other bands and entertainment options for us to fill the void our favorites left us. Today... rock-n-roll is a desert with few signs of life... surrounded by huge swaths of shit we have no interest in.
Then there's the 24/7/365 access to entertainment the internet has brought us. No longer a huge meal but you can snack all day and night for months on end. Then once we've binged all the good and decent stuff... we're bored, back on the hunt and wonder what has my hero done for me today, this hour, this minute..?
Come out of the haze of life... perched on the huge mountain of rock and roll debauchery stands a lone, giant majestic tree... still there... standing proud... growing a little slower but alive none the less... Welcome to the Roth Army!
Carry on...

I dunno...it kinda matters not to me in terms of Dave DOING anything going forward, at least in terms of some of the avenues you mentioned.
Like, I'm not particularly interested in Roth being a talk show host - or even in Roth being interviewed at this point (what's he gonna say that we ain't heard already?) - or another autobiography.
I do like your idea of an adventure show documenting his travels, because that way you can get a combo of Roth gabbing along with footage of interesting locales and destination spots, as opposed to just an interview (Wacky Uncle Dave tends to ramble these days, tossing off multiple throwaway lines that aren't quite as amusing to me anymore vs. 1980s interviews...although Dave certainly never fails to amuse himself with his witticisms, as evidenced by his continual laughing at his own jokes).
It's been at least 10 years, but DLR said he was working on his next book: The Tao of Dave. Rock 'N' Roll Philosophy is what he said was the tentative title.
There is an interview somewhere (in print) where the reporter said he / she was at Dave's house and the manuscript was on his kitchen table because he was working about it.
I don't want to hear ramblings. I would love tp hear about non-music and non-entertainment adventures.
He has just as much of that in the tank as he did / does related to music.
Why factory towns were known to be the places to play was because the factory workers would get off their shift and go see a show and blow off some steam. It’s why Detroit and Cleveland were out on the rock and roll map. What changed is we have a rust belt and no factories anymore. Kind of like a mining town drying up. Yeah sure you can make music and throw it on the internet but there isn’t the money there once was. The illusion is gone. Kids used to start bands because they dreamed of getting discovered and getting a record deal. Sure some loved to play but the pussy, money and fast cars were all part of the deal.
What do people do for fun now? Troll each other online. That’s the new rock and roll. A different way to blow off steam. Spewing hate as colorful as possible is the current art form.

People tend to spend their time and money where they socialize... that's been a clear trend among humans going back to tribal days. Factories, shopping malls and many of the economic drivers of locations has shifted a lot... but the population densities has only shifted slightly. Used to be you would have to go somewhere to enjoy entertainment... now you can take it with you no matter where you are...
I find an odd pleasure in knowing this dirty little place we have here lurks in pockets and purses around the globe... just waiting to spring to life right before your naked steaming eyes with a tap of the screen... although it is somewhat unsettling to realize a high percentage of site visits probably occur while many of you are sitting on the toilet...
That's life, baby...
