  • Bart Walsh Died

Sad to say that former David Lee Roth Bart Walsh died on the 2nd of November aged just 56. He toured with Dave in the late 90s and appeared on the BBQ video.

If my memory serves I think he even posted here a couple of times anonymously many years ago.

Bart Walsh was a veteran guitarist, who was best known as the original guitarist for the amazing Van Halen Tribute band The Atomic Punks. His years spent performing with them caught the eye of VH frontman David Lee Roth, and he was soon recruited to join Dave on his 1999 world tour as his lead guitarist.

Although Bart was best known for his time playing hard rock, he grew up under the tutalege of his great uncle Cecil Campbell, a country music hall of famer.

Schooled at the Musicians Institute in LA, along side notables like Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson), and Paul Gilbert (Racer X and Mr. Big) Walsh put together the band Lancia. They quickly became a top LA draw, and their self-titled CD was released in Japan to great acclaim.

After his time with the Atomic Punks and David Lee Roth, Bart worked with Poison frontman Bret Michaels for a while on one of his solo projects, and then went to work for Gibson Guitars. For several years Bart traveled all over for Gibson doing hundreds of clinics demonstrating their products, and educating buyers on all the things that make Gibson the company of legend that they are.

Loved Bart...he most definitely posted here. I wasn't as close to Bart as some of my good friends on here, but I talked to him a few times over the years...and interviewed him as well. A really good dude...

Seems like he was posting on YouTube as recently as two weeks ago...

      RIP Bart...

Has a cause of death been identified as far as anyone knows?

If those in the know can say, what was his user name on this site?

If you follow the link below it will take you to one of the many dusty corners of this site no one seems to know about any more - the gallery, which even has a Bart Walsh section.

According to Bart's family, the cause of his death was gastrointestinal bleed and dehydration. The reason I said Bart posted anonymously which sounds kind of odd since almost all of us post anonymously on here, is that Bart specifically posted as someone who knew him so clearly did not want the posts to be identified as by himself even under an alias.

Yikes! I take it he wasn’t in the hospital. They could have hydrated him with IV’s. Sounds like he had problems and wasn’t getting proper medical care. I had a friend that went hiking in the Utah desert and ended up getting so dehydrated it caused permanent kidney damage. He was one of these gung ho adventure types but he got over his head trying to be some macho survivalist.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

I am wondering if Dave will comment. Although given he has been offline a month or so, he might be out in wilderness.

It will be interesting to see. On the other hand, he seems to not publicly do such things so I suspect he will not have a comment.

Shit...Bart did a podcast just a week ago. Let it play...it gets to the video pretty quick...

Part 1...pretty fun interview. Bart was out there...talking to Brounsound1 last night really brought back a lot of memories I thought were gone...

Part 2...Bart is playing here...this guy edits the damn playing...which is pretty shoddy...

I was curious if Ralph Saenz/Michael Starr would respond as well...somewhere...

Ralph doesn't seem to tweet much and Michael Starr is a character he plays so probably not.

I could be wrong but I don't think Bart Walsh and Dave Roth parted on the absolute best of terms so I wouldn't expect much from there either.

Didn't someone here refer to Walsh as "Bert?"

Well to be honest my memory is that it didn't go well when he posted but even ignoring the current tragic circumstances, these were the early days of online forums and social media and you have to cut him some slack.

I haven't gone back to look and see if the posts are still there, they probably are.

For people that remember the West Wing it was very much like when Josh got in a mess posting in forums which was in turn based on when the writer of that did in real life.
