The Kid Strikes Back: Wolfgang Van Halen On DLR's Comments On EVH

    via Blabbermouth:

WOLFGANG VAN HALEN Says It's Not Up To DAVID LEE ROTH To Decide If EDDIE VAN HALEN Will Tour Again

Wolfgang Van Halen says that it's not up to David Lee Roth to decide whether Eddie Van Halen will ever tour again.

Eddie's 29-year-old son, who plays bass for VAN HALEN, made the comment shortly after Roth gave an interview to the New York Times in which he said that VAN HALEN is unlikely to perform live anytime soon.

"I don't know that Eddie is ever really going to rally for the rigors of the road again," Roth said. "I don't even want to say I've waited — I've supported for five years. Because what I do is physical as well as musical and spiritual — you can't take five years off from the ring. But I did. And I do not regret a second of it. He's a band mate. We had a colleague down. And he's down now for enough time that I don't know that he's going to be coming back out on the road. You want to hear the classics? You're talking to him."

After Loudwire posted an Instagram photo of Eddie along with the headline "David Lee Roth Doubts Eddie Van Halen Will Ever Tour Again", Wolfgang took to the comments section to write: "Yeah I don't really think that's up for him to decide".

There have been a lot of rumors regarding the VAN HALEN guitarist's supposedly worsening health, including a fall 2019 report from TMZ stating he is battling throat cancer. According to the gossip site's story, Van Halen has been traveling between the U.S. and Germany for treatment going on several years now.

Last October, Eddie stopped by a McLaren dealership in Beverly Hills and mingled with the sales team, taking pictures and even giving one fan a kiss. A week earlier, he was photographed at a TOOL concert in Los Angeles.

A rep for Van Halen had no comment on TMZ's initial report when reached by Fox News.

In early 2019, rumors were rampant that the classic-era lineup of VAN HALEN would reunite for the first time since 1984. It's unclear why the tour didn't happen, though there has been online chatter that a health setback involving Eddie Van Halen might have been responsible.

VAN HALEN has been inactive since it completed its U.S. tour in October 2015 in Los Angeles, California.

This past March, Roth postponed the final six shows of his Las Vegas residency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Roth performed as the opening act for the February/March North American leg of KISS's "End Of The Road" farewell tour.

Back in September, Roth said that there were no plans for VAN HALEN to do anything for the foreseeable future. "I think VAN HALEN's finished and this is the next phase," he said, referring to his solo project.

Nice of Wolfie to point out the obvious. Dave is only speculating based on what he knows. Not up to Dave to make the decision for Ed? No shit.

Isn't Wolfie supposed to be putting out a record or something? I guess it's possible that he's not even bothering since he can't exactly tour in the current state of the world.

Or.... is there something else that's taking priority over his music, like the declining health of a family member, maybe?

Wolfgang does have a record release in the works... touring isn't a possibility at the moment, but that shouldn't hold up releasing the music.

Appears to me the kid spends more energy gettin snarky on social media, when he could be makin music...

"The Kid"??? It just occurred to me that Wolfie is about the same age the band was when they released and toured in support of 1984...

    I considered "The Spawn" also.

"Heir To The Throne" didn't seem appropriate.

The 'kid' needs to realize Dave did not make any decision for Ed at all in his comments and merely said from his point of view it's looking doubtful right now. Seems Wolf has inherited his father's lack of reading cells as Dave once pointed out lol

I think if you leave someone hanging around waiting for 5 fucking YEARS it's ok for them to comment on it... Dave has been super discrete considering.

How long would Hagar have waited before doing his usual blowhard in the media? 3 or 4 months?

I do find it a bit peculiar that Wolf has been so sensitive and defensive on social media. On occasion, he trashes people who are simply recommending that he don’t give trolls the time of day. He claims it’s therapeutic to swing back, but I don’t think he realizes how much it makes him look, I dunno, whiny? Some of his comebacks in the beginning were kind of funny, but now, when I see him make claims that people who argued semantics with him over the Dave comment hate him anyway, I don’t think he’s doing his budding career any favors. I don’t hate him and I completely disagreed with him on this issue. Oh, and awarding someone as being the douche of the day every single day is not good for business. But what the fuck do I know? I’m just the son of a plumber.

Budding career? He's nearly 30. At that age his Dad had already made 1984 and had pretty much finished making any decent music.

All Ed has to do is get off the couch and prove Dave wrong. Doesn't seem that difficult. What does Wolfie know anyway? He's just a bass player.

Ok. Sting was 30 when the first Police album came out. Same for Rick Nielsen and Cheap Trick’s debut. I know this generation of young consumers probably aren’t going to even give him the slightest listen. His “fan base” will be 97% comprised of old farts like us who are curious as to what a solo record that took 5 years to make will sound like.

And perhaps I should have said budding solo career.

Wow you are absolutely right, not that I am a big fan but for 35 years it never occurred to me it was all smutty innuendo.

I can only think it was because of his squeaky clean image, if Motley Crue had a song called that I would have realised instantly...

Adams had a borderline racist meltdown recently, the Summer of COVID-19.

Maybe someone should tell this vegan-salad-eater knothead that the virus was transmitted back to China from Europe on vegetables...

It also explains why he doesn't sound like someone who practised guitar until his fingers bled.

Wait is that a menstrual blood reference?

I haven't listened to his rant but it is true that without farming livestock or eating wild animals very few if any new viruses would appear.

Could it be a double meaning and it is about getting 69s in 1969?

It had always bothered me because Jody left and get married and he was going to drive-ins yet in 1969 Adams was only 10 years old.

Of course maybe Jody is 16 and he's only 10 getting blown in her car at the drive-in. A 69 in a car could be difficult but to be fair Adams like most singers isn't very tall so when he was 10 Jody could probably flip him upside down easily enough.

Of course maybe Jody is 16 and he's only 10 getting blown in her car at the drive-in. A 69 in a car could be difficult but to be fair Adams like most singers isn't very tall so when he was 10 Jody could probably flip him upside down easily enough.
What about Jimmy? Makes one wonder why he quit?

I was 11 in the summer of 69... don't think for one minute we didn't have a clue about what was happening around us.

I remember having made enough money mowing lawns to buy Jimi Hendrix' Electric Ladyland... my first double-album and Led Zeppelin 1 that summer. Also arguing with my mom that those weren't the devil's music...

Spent a lot of time that summer helping my 20 year old next door neighbor build a 55 Chevy panel van hot rod. He was an Army Green Beret recovering at home from getting wounded during his tour in Vietnam.

Oh and there was plenty of room for all kinds of funny business in the back seat of late 50's American cars which were popular for younger folks have back then... Go watch the film American Graffiti...

From my perspective, if it's going to be another round of dates playing old material, it doesn't matter much to me if Ed/Van Halen tour again one way or the other...even if Dave is singing. I mean, not for nothing, but in eight years Van Halen did three tours. Each of those tours had setlists comprised mostly of CVH tunes. And...fine. Okay. Went and saw two of the three tours. Wasn't quite what I had hoped for in terms of a full-on CVH reunion, but the band (I'm assuming) did about as best they could considering how many years they wasted diddling around getting their act together.

I tend to doubt another tour with Roth post-2015 would have been much different from the other three in terms of quality, even if Mike Anthony had rejoined. To be sure, it would have been neat to see the CVH lineup together, but beyond that...whatever unfinished business CVH had when they broke up in 1985 was finished from 2007 to 2015. Maybe not finished on the type of high note I would have liked, but we got what we got. I don't think it's a travesty (or even a mild shame) at this point if Van Halen never tour again. The band has basically been finished on the creative front for twenty years: the only studio work they released when Roth rejoined was a single album, half of which was warmed over 30 year old leftovers. The band calling it a day now seems much, much less of a bummer than it did in 1985. In point of fact, it seems perhaps past time 'Van Halen' stopped churning out the oldies for lack of ability to come up with anything new.

I could be wrong, but I'd figure TheKID© would want to spend time focusing on investments, and establishing a portfolio generating cash. Maybe structure a little bit instead of wasting time sparring over the media? He'll never be hungry enough to go through what his Dad did to get where his Dad went. But what do I know; I'm just a monkey.

    eek eek!

Appears the Kid™ spends more time getting snarky with critics and jackasses on social media... He did take a shot at "the creeps at VHlinks" which at least verifies he's browsed fan sites... the big news from all that was someone with the last name Van Halen actually recognized a 20 year old fan site with their name publicly.

Praps TheKID© is following the Paris Hilton business model of being famous for being famous.

I do give Wolfgang some credit... he was somewhat instrumental in getting Van Halen back active in 2007/8 with Dave and we got a new record out of the deal. That put him on the fame map beyond his name inheritance from 2 famous celebrity parents.

Beyond that... at 29 years old he best get off his lazy ass and turn out something musical on his own if he doesn't want to become a footnote and just live off his parents estates the rest of his life. Although it's his prerogative to amount to nothing in the long run and live the easy life a lot of people dream of...

If Val and Ed had some decent financial advisors and legal representation managing their contracts... you'd figure they have trusts set-up and all their residuals/royalties properly covered for the duration of their ability to generate income.

You'd also hope there's some decent income still flowing for them just to keep up their outrageous California property and income tax liability, not to mention cost of living in that poorly managed hell-hole of a state.

Ed's recently been selling off his car collection... house cleaning? Reduced tax liability? or... Does he need an influx of cash to cover their lifestyle..?

I don't think they will have any trouble at all money wise, he probably just found he hadn't driven Ferraris in years because they were uncomfortable, had no trunk, were awkward to park and worst of all drew attention.

When other rock stars worth 10s of millions bought their private planes and snorted vast amounts of coke, Ed was drinking cheap wine at home.

And I guess actual Ferrari buffs look down on that particular vintage as the kind driven by a rich guy who knows nothing about cars...
