    50 years ago... Jimi Hendrix

Today marks 50 years ago since Jimi Hendrix passed...

Such a great body of work he cranked out in such a short time.

If there were just one bluesman/rocker to remember of in 50 years more, that would be Jimi.

He would turn 77 on November 27th. How would he have grown old, in the 70s, 80s, 90s...?

Maybe he unconsciously "knew" he would die young and played so much and recorded so much music in such a short time, who knows?

Damned, it reminds me I turned 50 21 days ago.

Yeah I got to talk with Billy Cox who was an army buddy of Jimi’s and played bass with him on the Chitlin circuit and later after Noel Redding left. He said Jimi knew what he wanted to be the whole time and went for it. He said the guy always had a guitar with him. He would play walking down the sidewalk. You are talking major obsession and dedication.

I once read he would sleep with his guitars. But he probably didn't sleep much. He was a guest at the Dick Cavett show when he was just back from Woodstock, completely exhausted.

The best ? Hard to argue. I lean towards Ed once in awhile. But Jimi still tops him imo. He was from outer space. And he didn't hang around long enough to embarrass himself musically.....

Definitely innovative both live and with his recording techniques.

He was rock and he was funk. Interesting that the rhythm section that established his funk were two white guys from England.
