Figs (11-19-2020)
The last figures I had seen for tangible/non-streaming sales were around 750 thousand, although that was probably 6 months after the initial early 2012 release.
Which, at the time, I just put down to all the pirated downloading/free uploading of the record on youtube as to why the tangible sales weren't higher than they were.

I mean, just from having been to that show in 2008 and believing my own lying ears as to what I was hearing vs. what I was seeing onscreen re: the oversized video screen behind the band, when the choruses came up and just Roth and Wolfgang were the ones visible on the mic(s), there just wasn't any way there weren't piped-in vocal tracks.
I will say in 2012 at the show I saw it was less egregious in that aspect. Frankly, Eddie was playing so well that 2012 show - and Roth was singing so poorly - that for most of that show I was just concentrating on what Eddie was doing anyway. [Eddie] was in such good form on that tour.
I can’t remember how to post a link here - shows my age I guess. But when I was listening to the Stern interview I heard You’re To Blame and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. It reminded me of something. It had this VH/DLR Band/Mad Season vibe. And I kept thinking, “What does this remind me of?” So I jump over here because I know somebody else heard it. And it was Chris Cornell. And specifically, for me, it was You Know My Name. This song could be the theme from Casino Royale.
I have trashed Wolfie probably more than anybody else here - but this shit is good. I once started a thread here of songs that should have been James Bond theme songs but weren’t. This song should have defo been picked up as the next one. I know, that’s a bold statement. But it is that good. And y’all know I never give Ed or Wolfie any credit - this ain’t nostalgia talking. I just think it’s amazingly close to what a Bond song should be. And that’s a lot of credit. Off topic? Of course. It’s kinda what I do.

I really like "Distance". The track "You're To Blame" just reminds me of a typical 'let's get all depressed with some angst' grunge/progressive style which is just there but this is coming from someone who does not care for grunge music

Probably posted somewhere else, but I'm now too old and tired to look for it. I dig this. And the guitar solo is good, too!

Really?1996 Best of Volume I : 8 million
A lot of this 90s stuff is to do with converting to CD though.

BoV1 moving 8 million units certainly FEELS like a high amount...much higher than I would have thought...by as much as 3 to 4 million higher than I would have thought.
Particularly since the figures listed were from 2013.
Not that I'm doubting the figures, mind you: clearly the RIAA has better access to sales date than I do.
I also seem to recall each subsequent Van Hagar release sold a little less than the one before it, thus I was surprised to see Balance outselling FUCK, although to be fair I probably haven't even looked at sales figures for the catalog for perhaps 15 years now...the last time I looked, I seem to remember the CVH era having sold around 40 million and the Van Hagar years doing around 20 million.

I did think at one point that the CVH stuff had the advantage from a sales comparison of not having been initially released in CD format, which would necessitate people repurchasing the CVH material on cd as their records/tapes wore out. Although to be fair, Van Hagar's first two albums were released in record, tape and CD format...I'm assuming FUCK was, too, although by 1991 vinyl was certainly on the wane.
Others would say that CVH had an "unfair" advantage because they put out 6 studio albums vs. 4 for Van Hagar. I never understood THAT one: CVH put out more records in less time than Van Hagar...it wasn't Dave's fault the band stopped producing music as fast after he left.
When I look at what KISS did with those KISStory dvd's or Led Zep did with their backlog of footage (with Page even soliciting/utilizing bootleg footage)...and then to think of all those CVH shows I mentioned (and those are just the ones off the top of my head, mind you) and yet all we ever got was Van Hagar official live video releases...goddamned ridiculous. Even Roth circa 2003 or so was saying in interviews that he was just as baffled as everybody else as to why Van Halen wasn't coming out with Deluxe versions of album reissues, or scouring the vaults for live dvd releases in light of how the live Zeppelin cd/dvd release of that period was selling like hotcakes.
I only bought the first of the KISStory DVDs but those things look like Chaim literally just put out some old bootlegs himself, with the official name & price tag on them. As opposed to the full on professional mastering job that Page did with the Zeppelin stuff. I'm hoping that when the Van Halen videos eventually get the official release, it's not a 10th generation bootleg used as the source material.

I dunno I haven't listened to it. Probably.
So, I listened to the Trunk interview, because I'm a VH geek and I just can't ignore anything that is about this whole deal. Other than Trunk talking about the one and only time he met Ed, when Ed requested to meet him , Trunk did a really commendable job on the interview. Trunk was smart enough to realize VH is hallowed ground, and he pretty much respected it. I will go so far as to say, I think Trunk did a much better interview with Wolfgang, than Stern did.
Wolfgang is very in tune with the wants and needs of CVH fan. Actually, he's very much in tune with what VH fan in general, wants and needs. I truly believe he kind of commandeered reuniting Roth with the band, for his Dad, and for us. I think his whole "Kitchen Sink" idea was for the same reasons. I believe he wanted no regrets for the band members and fans. It's unfortunate he wasn't able to pull that off, just from a peace of mind aspect. Mainly for his Dad and Mike Anthony. That would have been killer. I of course, am a dick, and am happy that Clichegar's last stand with VH was a disaster, and will remain so historically. But for peace of mind for all of them, it would have been cool if Wolfgang had been able to pull that off.

"...got to meet me"??!
Reminds me of the "all for the glorification of your massive ego!" Seinfeld quote...

The Trunk interview was not as bad as I thought it would be. I thought there would be more Hagar talk.
I keep seeing YouTubes of other WVH interviews and after watching the ones we have posted I gotta think the rest are just the same questions.
Trunk did keep leaning on a February release date and WVH corrected it to sometime in the spring.
That is one sad and brilliant video..got misty eyed, wont lie..Good to see Wolf seems to appreciate the fact Ed was a great father. I don't have that with my dad. I've always considered him to be very hypocritical. I can't recall the last time I told him I loved him. I guess I need to change that before its too late. Thanks Wolf.

Van Halen: I know specifically where to look to find the real s**t about me, like super dedicated, diehard Van Halen message boards and stuff. And I've even just popped a look in there and they're being nice to me there. I can't believe it. like even the mean s**t is nice to me now.

Has Kristy ever said anything shitty about Wolfgang?
Valerie was known to look at the usenet groups and maybe the Pleasure Dome forums.
Someone once referred to Valerie as "Yoko Bertinelli" but I don't remember what board that was on.
So this is love (11-21-2020)
"Yoko Bertinelli" was used a lot back on the old Slawterhouse board in the 1990s.
Dave's people back at the reunion contacted this site first because they said VH Links were too negative.
Va told them to send stuff to VH Links too and then they ran it as an exclusive.
I thought that was a poor decision.
Ironically we are and always have been the good guys.
We have to admit that Valerie did a great job raising Wolgang...
another thing that wasn't raised anywhere from the Howard Stern interview is that when Wolfie was asked by Howard if Dave had reached out to him since Eddie's death and he answered no...That is the main reason why I never wanted to meet the people I idolised...they're probably all ass-holes
That is NOT what Wolf said. Why do you lie?
Wolf (when asked if he spoke with Dave), said "not directly". He never said he was not in contact with Dave.
And who the fuck are you to decide you're the judge within a 50 year relationship between Dave and Ed and Al and Mike? You don't know what the fuck anyone said or did not say to anyone. You don't know fuck all. Wolf gave a simple and brief single-sentence reply.
But hey. You know everything.
He did NOT say he was not in contact.
Maybe YOU'RE the asshole for spreading lies?
Huh? Maybe?
