New Van Halen book looking for fan input

Hey all-

I'm working on a book titled Van Halen: The Eruption and the Aftershock and looking for fan input. It's going to be the story of the band alongside interviews with artists and insiders who were there to witness the rise of the band and ensuing influence on music. The particular part I want to talk to fans about is the divide between Dave and Sammy. This is where hardcore fans of Dave are welcome to be heard and lay out any grievances they may have against the Sammy era.

A lot of people take issue with the fact that it was the Van Hagar camp that began hurling the "we were a VW now we're a Porsche" crap and Sammy was in the center of it. He lies and misrepresents key facts like album sales and generally acts like a self-promoting douche trying to find an angle in Eddie's death. But other than that he is a fine fucking gentleman!

That was the one thing I never quite got during the initial back and forth between Roth and the Van Halens in the media beginning in 1985 after Dave left the group...

...it was one thing when Dave and the Van Halens took potshots at each other in the press, but who the fuck was Sammy Hagar to say anything about anything re: Roth? Like, even before Van Hagar had released a single note of music, Hagar was there slinging shit Dave's way in the press. Truthfully, I didn't dislike Hagar's music prior to him joining Van Halen, but I never thought it was all that great, either...thus I was confused as to where Hagar even got off saying word one about any of the jibber jabber between Dave and Eddie in terms of the animosity they had toward each other.
