Americans aren't turning against the democracy... just turning against the idiots and charlatans they elected.

Pretty sure they are turning on democracy. Just because you're a right-wing, pro-Trump nationalist does not mean the rest of the country agrees with your sentiment.

There are problems everywhere but the dumb 18th century voting systems in the US and UK are making things so much worse. Fucking no one does it that way any more because they all looked at us and thought that's really fucking stupid. Of the 50 countries in Europe it's only the UK and Belarus which is a total shitshow not doing proportional voting. It doesn't work and add on the social media algorithms of hate and its much worse. We are fucked.

320 million people with a choice of 2 things is more stupid than horoscopes.

The people who founded the US didn’t want a democracy they wanted a republic. So there are checks and balances on everything. The electoral college exists to keep the most populated states from deciding who’s president. It keeps one party from having a monopoly on the Executive Branch. The electoral college is why we have a Republican president and a Democrat president but neither party is guaranteed to get the presidency every election. If you went with a Democratic system the smaller states would have no say in anything and that would go against having independent states under the umbrella of one federal republic.

Correct... this is a democratic republic. Not a simple democracy.

Plus it's multi-tiered... you have precincts within cities, then city level, then county level, then state and piled on top of all that is Federal. It's chaotic and messy at times... But it's continued to hold together despite all the mess and even through internal civil wars.

The most telling element of all the challenges is the republic has grown and not a single portion... no matter how much they despise the current affairs has the will or desire to leave.

Look at the current immigration crisis... more of the world wants to be here and/or join the US than escape it. The reality reflects the desire of many to be a part of this. What does that simple fact indicate..?

All "Republic" means is absence of a monarchy. That's it. Why you right-wingers can't grasp that simple concept is beyond me

A republic is more than that. In the case of the United States we have a constitutional republic which means our government is ran under the guidelines of a contract between the people and who we elect under those guidelines to represent us inside the government. This system was to avoid the tyranny of the masses which can result in a French Revolution type scenario. Two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for diner if you will.

Saying the United States is a democracy is ignorant. The only democratic thing we do is vote and even that process falls under constitutional guidelines. It’s an inefficient system on purpose to avoid both tyranny of the masses that can happen with a democracy and tyranny from the politicians in government.

I have a friend from Singapore who went through the legal process to become a US Citizen. Singapore is a nice place but you don’t have the freedoms and protections offered under our constitution. Also this person loves horses and wants to own land. Singapore is too crowded to do that. Also if the US fell so would Singapore. The Chinese would take it over.

I tend to find people who bash the US the most are ignorant people who live here and never got a taste of what the rest of the world is like. The US is still the easiest place to open your own business. I can start multiple Limited Liability Companies here where in other countries that’s very difficult and you end up conflicting with the small number of people who run everything in that country and they will strong arm you into selling to them or they shut you down.

You are a moron or a "constitutional scholar".

They didn't want an "Athenian Democracy" that was an ultraviolent inciting "vote-by-plebiscite". They did in fact want a "democracy" that we have today of elected officials firewalled from the uneducated unwashed masses like you and Von. Stupid fucking Americans that don't know their own history...
