    Dave's Business Ideas That Stunk

Some interesting trademarks registered to Dave... Appears all have been abandoned. But it covers cologne, aftershave and clothing lines for the 2015-2019 time period.

Wasn't there a time when Dave got himself involved in MLM campaigns? That's an act of desperation right there.

I’ve started a few businesses. The odds are against you so you really have to be in the game full time. I thought Dave had some good ideas and an interesting niche market to target but he never seemed to promote it after he started it. Your business will die if you don’t water it and business is simply working with people. You have to have good partnerships or you are done. Dave seems to have problems there. He’s the class clown. He’s Jeff Spicoli. That’s great for entertainment, not so great in management.

Maybe the ideas didn’t stink. The promotion sure did. The marketing sucked. Several entertainers have created successful brands but you have to be in the game. Dave started something and walked away.

Dave could have portrayed himself as an avid outdoorsman and when he’s kayaking or climbing mountains he uses his products. Outdoors sports are huge today. I live in an area where all that stuff is a huge part of our economy. Where was Dave? He could have sold a shit load of product in Jackson Hole alone. David who?

No idea if his cologne line stunk or not... But you are correct promotion is at the heart of the failures. Again... poor management raises it's ugly mug.

All these years of claims that it was Dave's business hustle that was part of the genius that drove Van Halen to the top... One has to question those assumptions in the last 20 years as Dave's results don't add up to success. Maybe Dave was great at hustling keg-parties and bar gigs. Appears he doesn't have the legs to keep up in larger ventures.

Hell... even the Bass Player™ has a successful hot sauce business and EVH is still sellin striped flip-flops and under britches...

Outdoor sports are huge now. Tattoos are big. I see a bunch of tatted up people here doing all the outdoors stuff. Dave could have sold them some product but they didn’t know about it.

Every celeb has a hot sauce.
    Or a barbeque sauce.
    Or a clothing line.
    Or an alcohol line.
    Or a perfume.
    Or a podcast.

Celeb endorsements have become so ubiquitous as to be meaningless.

I believe frog motif mailboxes would be a very limited market...

WVH wouldn't allow the striped pattern even though Dave invented it...

Dave should've hired people to do all the marketing for him and have him just be the approval guy. I actually thought he did have people do that for his tattoo cream.

But he didnt use his own celeb cred to help market it. Maybe it would've moved sales big time had he attached his name and likeness to the product. Ads for it could have used old footage of Roth doing his acrobatic feats from the old days including the famous mountain climbing footage from Skyscraper.

Dave is an interesting guy and lot's of attention getting potential there but no effort made. Rick Nielsen owns a pizza joint in Chicago and does a great job promoting it using his quirky personality and just selling the product which is a great thin crust pizza in a deep dish town. It's called being in the game. You can't do business half assed.

Yup. A few do a good job at marketing their stuff. Our daughter came home to visit with a bunch of friends and the bathroom was full of Gwen Stefani makeup. She must be doing ok.

    Exactly.

"1980s Dave" can be a hot seller in itself. People, heck a lot of young people, marvel at him on all those old videos and concerts. He can push a lot of that onto anything and people will eat it up.

But he doesn't. Not sure why.

Most people try and become rock stars so they don't have to work, maybe becoming a tequila salesman doesn't interest him.

Not everyone cares about having $60 million in the bank instead of $30 million. Those LLCs would only have cost him a few hundred $s each, it's pocket change.

Not that I have a tattoo, but that sucks for Dave. My girlfriend has a couple so I did buy one for her.

He was selling cologne? I would've bought some. Was that through INK?
