Meat Loaf, the singer and actor whose "Bat Out of Hell" album became one of the best-selling of all time, has died at the age of 74.

"Our hearts are broken to announce that the incomparable Meat Loaf passed away tonight with his wife Deborah by his side," a post published on the star's official Facebook page early Friday said.

The rock musician, born Marvin Lee Aday, was surrounded by loved ones in the hours before his death.

"Daughters Pearl and Amanda and close friends have been with him throughout the last 24 hours," said the post, published at around 3:45 a.m. ET.

Remembering the Grammy winner's "amazing career" spanning six decades across the music and film industry, the post said the star had sold more than 100 millions albums worldwide and starred in more than 65 films.

Meat Loaf played Eddie in the cult film “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” as well as roles in "Fight Club," Wayne's World" and "Focus."

"We know how much he meant to so many of you and we truly appreciate all of the love and support as we move through this time of grief in losing such an inspiring artist and beautiful man," the post said.

"We thank you for your understanding of our need for privacy at this time," it added.

"From his heart to your souls…don’t ever stop rocking!"

Far be it for this to be one of those internet forums that just spread rumors with no evidence but if it was COVID that killed him was Meat Loaf the kind of guy who maybe wouldn't have got vaccinated despite being a 74 year old asthmatic?

    IDK, but from The Times:

Meat Loaf had health problems throughout his career. He had heart surgery in 2003 after collapsing onstage at Wembley Arena in London and told an audience in Newcastle, England, in 2007 that the concert was “probably the last show I’ll ever do” after another health scare.

In 2013, he told The Guardian that he was definitely retiring from music after another farewell tour. “I’ve had 18 concussions,” he said. “My balance is off. I’ve had a knee replacement. I’ve got to have the other one replaced.” He wanted to “concentrate more on acting,” he added, since “that’s where I started and that’s where I’ll finish.”

Haven't heard anything specific about his COVID beliefs, but he was a known Trump supporter & a climate science denier who once called Greta Thunberg "brain damaged", so being an anti-vaxxer would be consistent with that level of stupidity

TMZ says COVID (and his own anti-vax stupidity) got him

    tmz.com
Meat Loaf Dead at 74 From COVID
    1/21/2022 3:18 AM PT

Meat Loaf -- the singer with some monstrous hits -- has died at the age of 74.

The singer's manager, Michael Greene, confirmed Meat Loaf died Thursday night. Sources with knowledge tell TMZ ... he was supposed to attend a business dinner earlier this week for a show he's working on -- "I'd Do Anything for Love" -- but the dinner was canceled because he became seriously ill with COVID. Sources tell us that condition quickly became critical.

Our sources say Meat Loaf has been outspoken about COVID, railing with folks in Australia recently about vaccine mandates. We do not know if he was vaccinated.

Greene added that Meat Loaf's wife and 2 daughters were by his side when he passed away.

Meat Loaf was one of the greatest rock singers of all time. His 1977 "Bat Out of Hell" album sold an astounding 65 million copies. That album produced several hits, including "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad," which charted at #11 on Billboard.

Meat Loaf followed up with a sequel years later -- "Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell" - which produced a number 1 hit, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." He won a Grammy for Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance.

Meat Loaf also appeared in a ton of movies and TV shows, including "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Spice World: The Movie" and "Fight Club" He also performed in the musical "Hair," both on and off-Broadway.

His real name was Marvin Lee Aday. As for how he acquired the name of a delicious meal ... his football coach named him Meat Loaf because of his weight. His first band was called Meat Loaf Soul.

Now get this ... his first album was a duet with a singer named Stoney and it was released on Motown.

We last got Meat Loaf in NYC back in 2019, where he told us why his stage name should appeal to vegetarians and vegans alike.

BTW ... Meat Loaf was a vegetarian from 1981 to 1992. In 2019, he tried becoming a vegan. He once said, "There have been vegetarians who wouldn't speak to me because of my name." In fact, he was a big fan of singer k.d. lang and wanted to meet her but he says she refused because of his name. He says he stopped being a fan after that!!

Greta replied “How Dare You!”, then put a hex on his ass and Meat Loaf became worm food.

Too funny. Everyone is obsessed about people’s healthcare and politics right now. If the guy died 30 years ago it would just be Meat Loaf died. Oh yeah. He was the dude that sang Bat out of Hell.

That's not true, they'd simply speculate about drugs or booze. Meats was supposedly clean and sober but not really sure he didn't go back to that.

But with his age and aliments he was the posterchild of who needs the vax most so it is a fair point to make...

Jim Steinman. the actual brains behind his career died a while back. I recall being shocked seeing him prior to that in the 1990's, like he turned into an albino Phantom of the Opera...

Heart disease and diabetes are the biggest killers in the US. Meat Loaf most likely went due to those. Fat kills.

How does that become anyone else's business? Because he was a celebrity?

Well... it might be relevant if he made any indoor public appearances recently. But apparently that's not the case.... because he was too sick to make the meetings.

Bullshit. I seem to remember people mentioning that Freddie Mercury died of AIDS at the time quite a lot. People always want to know how people died especially if it distances it from themselves.

If you go to a funeral of a schoolmate there is nothing more comforting than finding out he had been on meth or at least a very heavy smoker or had a family history of whatever he died of. That's half the reason for going to the funeral although people never admit it even to themselves.

Absofuckinglutely. You think Elvis would have wanted everyone to know he died on the toilet?

Dying during a pandemic when there is a vaccine and you didn't take it is the new dying on the toilet constipated on hundreds of burgers and pills...

Not saying he did or didn't but if you sell a zillion albums people will have to know

"I would do anything for love but I won't do that"

He always refused to clarify what was meant by that and now both him and Steinman are dead we may never know.

At the time when it came out and being a pretty young and naive guy and fpr whatever reason I always assumed it was pegging but now I'm much older I do wonder at just how fucking dark that song might be.

    Discuss. (10 marks)

It was a brilliant song. The answer is whatever people’s twisted imaginations come up with.

It's pretty simple actually you silly Scottish goose!

And I would do anything for love,
I'd run right into hell and back
I would do anything for love,
I'll never lie to you and that's a fact

But I'll never forget the way you feel right now,
    Oh no, no way.
And I would do anything for love,
    But I won't do that

    No I won't do that

He's simply referring to the previous verse, the protagonist "would do anything for love", but he won't stoop to lying to convince her to fall in love with him....

The music video opens up the additional theme that he would do anything for love but he won't use his magic or powers to seduce her (i.e. rock and roll celebrity)...

No he says he won't lie about the pegging/kitten fucking/insurrection but won't specify what it is.

The song is like staring at clouds or ink blots. Everyone is going to see things differently but you can tell who the real twisted perverts are by their interpretations.

That was from Steinman, in an interview a while back. He thought it was unambiguous but of course others disagree. But he's simply saying the guy is honorable and won't "play", con or "trick' her into a relationship...

Of course we can do Jacque Derrida shit all day with this..

Yeah, he was in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, but when I think of the Rocky Horror Picture Show he isn't who immediately springs to mind. Yeah, he was in Fight Club, but...same thing.

Bat Out Of Hell WAS a great fucking album, though. For me, it still holds up as well as it ever did. And Meat Loaf was the voice of that.

I dunno...for me, Meat Loaf is just one of those defining iconic entertainers who defined the 1970s for me. I can't say anything he did post-Bat mattered much to me...not even that I'll Do Anything For Love single, because never cared for it.

For me he was the sweaty fat guy in a cheesy 70’s ruffled tuxedo shirt singing the hell out of Bat Out of Hell. He looked like he was going to drop from a heart attack way back then. He was just one of those guys who grabbed your attention while growing up. People die. Fat people die sooner.

I was saying to the missus the other day, in the wake of Bob Saget and Betty White and several other older celebs passing that doubtless we'll start seeing them dropping off in bucketloads, just by virtue of their age...like, celebs of various walks we liked back when we were kids in the 1970s and they were twenty or so years older THEN...now these people are hitting their sixties and beyond, and it's just what happens to everybody eventually.

My wife and I also started joking with each other right around the time Prince and David Bowie died about how people take to social media immediately after and say the deceased was "always their favorite artist ever"...and how that online sentiment is such overstated bullshit. Especially when you look at where Prince and David Bowie were career-wise when they died: clearly the tens of millions of people who claimed they were their "favorite artists always" weren't buying their music anymore, and hadn't been for decades in the case of Bowie. Why not just be truthful and say you liked Prince back when Purple Rain was popular? Or that you liked David Bowie back when Let's Dance was released? None of this overblown "my favorite artist EVER!!!" lying bullshit.

Like, the height of the ridiculousness for me thus far has a couple of weeks ago when we went out to a local pizza restaurant to get an early dinner on a Saturday night. This was the weekend after White had died. Not New Year's Weekend, but the following weekend. Sitting on a table as we walked in was a bouquet of flowers next to a picture of Betty White with a sheet of paper upon which the words GOODBYE BETTY WHITE WE WILL MISS YOU ALWAYS!! were printed.

I was just shaking my head. I mean, this is just a local pizza place with a small bar and a bunch of tvs that have sports on: nobody eating there gave two shits about Betty White. The staff, who were in their mid-twenties on the average, didn't give two shits about Betty Fucking White.

I mean, this wasn't a restaurant Betty White had even been to once, and it's not like we live in Betty White's hometown.

Everybody is in this race to be the first to publicly grieve the loudest.

I suppose this public faux-grief is better than nobody giving a shit about anybody ever, but...it just rings kinda hollow to me.
