Is Pooty dead?? Or even close to dead?? When was the last time anybody saw old Vlad?

Has Putin Died? What We Know, What We Don't
    Story by Tom Norton
    newsweek.com

Rumors surrounding Russian President Vladimir Putin's health have doggedly followed him throughout his time in power, often without evidence to support them.

Earlier this week, a story that he had suffered a cardiac arrest led to headlines around the world. The Kremlin denied the claims saying everything was fine with him.

Now, however, this reported slide in health has allegedly reached its nadir, if the newest rumor is to be believed.
A Telegram post by Russian gossip channel General SVR, on October 26, 2023, stated that Putin died at his residence in Valdai at 20.42 p.m Moscow time on Thursday, sparking a coup d'état in Russia!

Now the doctors are blocked in the room with Putin's corpse, they are being held by employees of the presidential security service on the personal order of Dmitry Kochnev, who is in touch and receives instructions from the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Nikolai Patrushev, the post added.

The security of the president's double has been strengthened. Active negotiations are underway. Any attempt to pass off a double as president after Putin's death is a coup d'état.
As anyone who has followed General SVR's Telegram channel might predict, there were no evidence or sources cited.

General SVR also shared the rumor earlier this week that Putin had a cardiac arrest, and earlier this month claimed he had named his successor in the event of his death. Both of these stories were also without evidence.

The latest post follows the narrative thread of General SVR's other stories too. The channel has alleged that Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev is in line to become leader, and has repeatedly said that Moscow has been using body doubles to disguise Putin's health.

Both Russian and Western media outlets have reported that presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied rumors about Putin's death.

The Moscow Times reported on Friday, citing state-owned news agency RIA Novosti, that Peskov called the death rumor an absurd information canard.

That exact same phrase was attributed to Peskov on Tuesday to deny the earlier rumors of a cardiac arrest.

Newsweek was unable to find the newest Peskov denial via RIA Novosti or elsewhere, and it was unclear if the reports were confusing the alleged comment with the earlier Kremlin denial.

However, the state-owned agency did post a video of Putin on Friday morning via its Telegram channel, at an operational meeting with members of the Security Council.

The Kremlin has been contacted for comment via email.

Although the claims shared by General SVR have been widely dismissed, other more credible sources have alleged that Putin has suffered from poor health.

Three intelligence leaders told Newsweek in July 2022 that a classified U.S. report said Putin had undergone treatment in April 2022 for advanced cancer.

The same year, The Moscow Times cited an investigative report by independent Russian media outlet Proekt Media that said Putin was accompanied by doctors, including a thyroid cancer surgeon, on trips to his residence in Sochi from 2016 to 2019 and that doctors "may have performed surgery" on him in November 2016.

Hogwash. If Putin's dead it will most likely come from a bullet or two or ten entering his skull.

Maybe he did have heart attack or something to start these rumors but it doesn't take much these days to start a false death rumor and it's way more difficult to keep a big secret.

Remember the old days when was it Andropov was dead for couple of weeks before anyone knew. I don't think they could do more than a day or so nowadays.

Yeah, if I remember correctly they said old Yuri just had a bad cold and he would be fine in a couple of days. Not so much, apparently. And then there was a couple other short term old guys that came after him and died off just as fast, before they finally brought Gorby in.

Back then, we thought that was crazy, putting all those old farts in charge... even though Reagan was only a couple years younger than them. Now we have a possible matchup between 82 year old Biden & 79 year old Cheeto (their ages at the time of the 2024 election) and the 82 year old is probably the healthier of the two... at least for now.

Crazy shit then... and now. And considering that was pretty much the end of the USSR, what the fuck does that say about the condition of the US??

Fair to say he's very likely not well we do know that given there are flight records and pictures of their top cancer guy going everywhere he does.

Who knows if his death would make things better or worse at this point though.

A 21-year-old US Marine veteran died in Ukraine

US Marine veteran Ethan Hertweck was killed in fighting in Ukraine.

He died helping a comrade after taking out 12 Russians in his final stand, his family said.

Hertweck is one of around 46 Americans to have died in Ukraine since the war began.

A US Marine veteran died in Ukraine trying to help a comrade after taking out 12 Russians in his final stand, his family said.

Ethan Hertweck was killed in Ukraine on December 8, just 11 days before he was scheduled to return home to the United States, Task & Purpose reported.

"He had thought of coming home before this last mission, but we know he didn't want to leave his two 'brothers' that transferred with him to the new unit," his mother, Leslie Hertweck, told Task & Purpose. "He would have been home, here in Springfield, Missouri. today!"

Hertweck and one of his comrades were protecting two bunkers when Russians attacked them.

"They both single-handedly left their post, taking out about 12 enemy soldiers and halting their advance," his mother said.

"They saved two bunkers full of their unit. Ethan made it to the bunker but had to go back for his mate, and that is when he was hit in his left upper chest above his plate, but he still tried to render aid before he passed."

The 21-year-old Hertweck died fighting in Avdiivka in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, a fellow soldier said, according to Newsweek.

"He gave his life for a country and people he had fallen in love with," said his mother, per Task & Purpose.

Avdiivka has been the fulcrum of fierce fighting in recent weeks, as Russia continues its brutal assault to try and capture the city while making little progress.

Russia started its major assault on Avdiivka in October. It has seen huge losses since, in both personnel and vehicles, according to Ukraine, Western intelligence, and analysts.

Hertweck served in the Marine Corps from November 2019 to June 2020 and left as a private first class, according to his service record seen by Task & Purpose.

He received an honorable discharge for a rare blood disorder, according to his mother and documents viewed by the outlet.

He made several trips to Ukraine after the war began, first to help women and children on the border with Poland, then later returning to get his combat medical license.

He eventually signed a contract with the Ukrainian military and joined the 131st Special Reconnaissance Battalion as a medic for team Vidmak.

He then moved to a different unit, with one of his comrades, with whom he carried out his final mission.

At least 46 Americans have died in Ukraine since February 2022, many of them military veterans, Task & Purpose said.

Hertweck is one of 11 Marine veterans reportedly killed in Ukraine, per a list compiled by Task & Purpose.

The Russian Air (Aerospace) Force has lost five of their best aircraft in the last two days coinciding with the first combat operational F-16 Fighting Falcon (Viper editions). The Ukes said likely Patriot SAMs were used but who knows?

Russians less arrogant in Kherson Oblast after 3 of their Su-34 bombers were destroyed
    Ukrainska Pravda
Mon, December 25, 2023 at 4:20 AM EST·2 min read
    28

Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for Ukraine's Air Force.
    Stock photo: Mediacentre
Following the downing of three Su-34 fighter-bombers by the Ukrainian Defence Forces, Russian troops have reduced their air activity in Kherson Oblast and are spreading rumours of a "wandering Patriot air defence system" [some Russian news outlets said that there is a Patriot air defence system that is travelling across Ukraine to shoot down targets – ed.].

Source: Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for Ukraine’s Air Force, on the air during the national joint 24/7 newscast, on the morning of 25 December

Quote: "We never disclose how, where, and in what place we destroy air targets, except for the time. If the enemy is guessing, writing about a 'wandering Patriot' or some other air defence system, let them keep guessing. Let them understand that Patriot and perhaps another long-range system can be on one front today, on another one tomorrow, and then on another one after that.

The enemy needs to be kept on the edge of their seats. This means they will perform their tasks less arrogantly, with fewer assets and personnel. That's what happened after the destruction of three Su-34s: the enemy was no longer actively fighting in Kherson Oblast, realising that there could be a trap for them.

That's why they sent a dozen drones there and are looking for something that destroyed their jets."

Details: Ihnat confirmed that the Russians are trying to find out what shot down their Su-34 bombers. Russian drones have a reconnaissance function, so even reconnaissance UAVs must be destroyed, he said.

Background: On 24 December, Ukraine's air defence destroyed two Russian military aircraft – a Su-34 on the Mariupol front and a Su-30 over the Black Sea. In addition, three Su-34 fighter-bombers were destroyed on 22 December.

Those uniforms haven’t changed since the Soviet Union. I went there in 1975 because my uncle was a Russian history professor and he arranged a trip after the Soviet Union opened up. The Finns were begging us not to go. Our greeters were Russian soldiers who were having fun trying to intimidate us. I was thinking how ugly their uniforms were and how brainwashed they were. We did have a guy in Leningrad ask if we were Americans and he got teary eyed and quietly thanked us for the help we gave the Russians during WWII. Of course he risked getting in trouble telling us this. I was amazed how many good looking women there were. No makeup but they still looked good. Nobody smiled and people just seemed miserable because they were living in a prison and life was just exhausting and trying to stay out of trouble. It was a bland place. Some people were nice to us. I just learned there are nice people everywhere.

This nonsense in the Ukraine probably will end soon. Russia wants Crimea because of the naval base there. They will end up keeping that and the Rest of Ukraine will still be the Ukraine. Like Afghanistan not much changes. People die and the arms manufactures get rich and a lot of US money wasted in an area that really isn’t strategically important to us.

Um, Russia has lost about 20% of its navy and a large chunk of its surface fleet and its hold on Crimea is increasing untenable as Ukrainian forces today destroyed a main rail bridge and will probably largely have Crimea nearly completely cutoff from the Russian Federation by the end of this summer. BTW, the Ukraine basically has no surface navy to speak of...

Stopping Russian expansion, destroying a large part of their best military, kicking Putin really hard to the point he may go completely and all for maybe 5% of your defence budget for a few years. Plus most importantly zero loss of US life.

Can you imagine what Reagan would have thought of that deal? I don't understand Republican politicians these days it's all party politics nothing to do with logic or beliefs.

Russia has lost a staggering 87 percent of the total number of active-duty ground troops it had prior to launching its invasion of Ukraine and two-thirds of its pre-invasion tanks, a source familiar with a declassified US intelligence assessment provided to Congress told CNN.12 Dec 2023

Unconfirmed but rumors that Ukraine shot down an advanced and expensive early-warning/AWACS type A-50 jet (or the Russians "scored a goal in their own net") over the Sea of Azov are raging on the web...

This reminds me of stories in WW2 where on 'Top Trumps' terms you could have a Sherman tank which on paper would be vastly inferior to the military nerd take out a Tiger tank just by hitting it a 4 or 5 times stunning the crew and making something stop working. That and there is a stat the vast majority of tanks are not killed by other tanks. Similarly people go on about how the Tiger tanks were better than allied tanks and it's all irrelevant nonsense when the numbers are 30 Shermans built for each Tiger made and so on. In real life it's more about how many can you make, can you refuel them, how reliable are they and how quickly can you fix them.

And this whole drone shit which seems to be changing things in the same way that Battleships were killed off by aeroplanes.

We beat the German tanks by out numbering them. Sadly we lost a lot of tank crews. The Sherman’s were simple and easy to mass produce and easy to maintain. Tigers were far more complicated. With Hitler in charge the Germans did all sorts of dumb shit. Hitler always thought bigger was better.

^^Naw. That was largely iconic history for up to about two decades ago. A lot of the German tanks were shit and they had their problems. A Panther tank's engine wore out after about 600 miles, if the final drive make-it-go thing didn't break first which it often did as it was weak.

The actual Allied tank losses were about 2:1 in favor of the Germans but not the "5-to-1" crap often quoted. The Allies were on the offensive so they will always take higher losses. They US Army fielded a number of "Jumbo" Shermans that had heavier armor than a Tiger, and the Israelis used the "Super Sherman" M-50/51 mounting a higher velocity 75mm and even a 105mm tank cannon with upgraded sights and stuff that could defeat even the then latest Soviet made T-54/55's and even T-62' well into the 70's!

The Chieftan, a real world US Army Nat'l Guard officer and tanker gives a very nice overview here. He isn't an expert because he commanded M-1 Abrams in war, but because he does primary documentary research and makes the good case that actually the Sherman was the best overall tank in WWII...

The Germans only made about 1400+ Tigers. Overall they were pretty good, but only about 90 were in France after D-Day. But the scene in Fury where Brad Pitt circles the real Tiger tank is crap (Tiger 131 captured by British Army in North Africa after being immobilized by 6 pdr. guns from Churchill tanks lol). The "Fury" tank, a M-4A3E8, had a 76mm "long" gun that could penetrate the frontal armor of a Tiger, so not necessary. The shorter 75mm guns needed to get side or rear shots. The British had the "Firefly" Sherman that mounted a 17 pdr. gun that could kill the Tiger at even longer ranges, both the 76 and 17 had their drawbacks and advantages. But both the US and British Armies kept the shorter 75mm gun because its high explosive shell was better for killing people, small works, trucks, etc. and used them in tandem with the higher velocity guns.

Further, actually looking at WWII casualty figures, scholars checking US Army documents on dead and wounded Sherman crews found they were a lot lower than anyone expected and infantry had it far worse....

I've never watched Fury because I heard it was just total bullshit historically. There are some like U-571 that I just draw a line at watching because of that.

    Admittedly I did enjoy Braveheart.

Fury is sort of bullshit, but it's some fun bullshit and the ending scenes are over-the-top cartoon/video game shit. But it had its high points of using real tanks on both sides and does make some points about war. It's a decent day-off and bored popcorn film in the Braveheart vein...

I've never seen U-571 and never will not least of which the Bon Jovi cunt factor. But Fury isn't a complete historical purloin of bullshit. Just cartoonish at its worst and chocked full of some realism when it comes to tank crews, the military, and the awful art of killing people...

Maybe Putty can send some Naval Infantry to seize it? Oh wait, they're mostly all dead with many survivors refusing to fight...

Denmark to send its 'entire artillery' to Ukraine, the country's prime minister says
Nathan Rennolds Feb 18, 2024, 5:32 PM GMT

Denmark is sending all of its artillery to Ukraine, the Danish prime minister has said.

Mette Frederiksen made the announcement while speaking at the Munich Security Conference.
It comes as Ukraine faces severe munitions shortages.

Denmark is sending its "entire artillery" to Ukraine, the Danish prime minister has said.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Mette Frederiksen appealed to other European nations to do more to help Ukraine in its fight against Russian President Vladimir Putin's invading forces.

"They are asking us for ammunition now. Artillery now. From the Danish side, we decided to donate our entire artillery," she said.

"I'm sorry to say, friends, there are still ammunition in stock in Europe," she continued. "This is not only a question about production, because we have weapons, we have ammunition, we have air defense that we don't have to use ourself at the moment, that we should deliver to Ukraine."

It comes as Ukrainian forces withdrew from the key eastern town of Avdiivka amid severe munitions shortages.

The Danish announcement will come as particularly welcome news in Ukraine as its military has been starved of artillery shells, forcing it to scale back some operations, Brigadier General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi told Reuters in December.

"There's a problem with ammunition, especially post-Soviet (shells) - that's 122 mm, 152 mm. And today, these problems exist across the entire front line," he said.

Meanwhile, in more positive news to alleviate the ammo famine, the Czech Republic says it could supply 800,000 shells to the Ukrainian military.

Czech President Petr Pavel said in a speech at the Munich Security Conference on 17 February that it had a stockpile of about half a million 155 mm and 300,000 122 mm shells, which can be on the Ukraine frontline in a few weeks "if funding is found quickly."

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the Nordic country's military aid commitments increased by 3.5 billion euros, or around $3.8 billion, since November — making it one of the biggest military donors by percentage of GDP, the institute says.

Denmark has pledged 8.4 billion euros, around $9 billion, in military aid.

With a crucial $60 billion US aid package stalled in Congress, European support is becoming ever more important for Ukraine.

Earlier this year, the European Union agreed to a new 50 billion euro, or around $53.9 billion, aid package for Ukraine.

"This locks in steadfast, long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine. The EU is taking leadership and responsibility in support for Ukraine; we know what is at stake," President of the European Council Charles Michel said at the time, per Reuters.
