There is a pretty big school of thought that had Randy Rhoads lived, he and Dave would have inevitably formed a band...

Don't see that happening. Randy was pretty open about heading in the classical direction, so if he made rock records at all, it might have been like what YingYang Malmsteen would be if he had a shred of songwrting talent. I can't see Dave wanting to go that route.

Old enough to be your stepfather but I’m still considered a freshman amongst all the curmudgeons here!

I watched him play it. I really don’t care what anyone else thinks. Wolfgang grew up watching his dad play and then was in the band with him. He’s got hands that can do it. He did well. The bottom line is not everyone can play guitar. Some people just can’t. Then people who can tend to be better in one style or another. My daughter is an excellent classical guitarist but she can’t play blues for shit. I never could finger pick as well as she does and I played classical for four years in school.

Each to their own. Wolf did his own rendition of his dad and came close.

Technically Yngwie is very good but yeah, no song writing ability. I can watch him for 15 minutes and then I’m done. I have a good laugh at the cliche of what he is. All those Marshall’s on stage. The kick. The guitar spin. The leather pants, rapper levels of gold and Rolex. Probably the only dude left who still buys Aquanet. It’s funny and entertaining for 15 minutes.

Nobody could play like Eddie but Eddie. Yeah it’s kind of fun to watch some of these tribute bands. That’s good for 15 minutes too.

From the Taylor Hawkins tribute in LA:

9:04 p.m. A rare turn on bass by Grohl as he leads a band with the Darkness’ Justin Hawkins, drummer Josh Freese and guitarist Wolfgang Van Halen — son of the late Eddie Van Halen — through a feverish take on the pop-metal classic “Panama.”

9:08 p.m. The Van Halen worship continues with a faithfully sleazy version of “Hot for Teacher,” Justin Hawkins flouncing across the stage in a hot-pink bodysuit a la Sunset Strip-era Diamond Dave.

Here's Panama. Pretty good. Maybe lacks little bit of some showmanship or swagger in his playing or something. But not bad at all.
