Whatever you want to say about Grohl be has more taste than that and probably despises Sam and the Guy Fieri doucher types along the lines of a Bourdain disdain for them..
Most people in the music industry seem to like Grohl. Hagar? Not so much... I remember at that disastrous Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ceremony where nobody actually IN Van Halen at the time showed up to be inducted. Just the bass player who should have been in the band, and the singer who NEVER should have been.... and then they had the all star jam at the end (as always)... and Hagar goes over to Keith Richards like he's his best friend or something......

And Keef has this look on his face like "who the fuck is this idiot??"

Sammy does his rock and roll road trip and has some pretty big music people on it. If they despised Sam they wouldn’t go on his show but I doubt Alex Van Han or David Lee Roth will be one of his guests. Ha! Ha!

With a couple exception's they seem to be by-and-largely members of bands that are now casino cock-eaters nowhere near their original lineups (i.e. Foreigner). The Foos (Grohl and Hawkins) did appear but probably obviously vastly preferred they were talking to Dave. Going on AXS TV is probably part of the marketing stipulation on the contract since it seems to be that last bastion of 'classic rock" on cable...

Fatty fingers will only take him so far. Dude could never play a complete set of CVH songs on guitar.

He looked gassed after playing two.

He did play well but let’s be honest he desperately needs to lose weight.

              Inherited?

He played the two VH tunes well. He can clearly play guitar. It wasn't really shocking how well he played those VH tunes, in that by this point 40 years or more on, a LOT of people can play those tunes well now. I can play those two tunes as well as he can. So can a million Youtubers. Although in all honesty I'd be more than a little nervous (far more nervous than him) going onstage and playing them in front of that many people. I suspect more than a few of those Youtubers I mentioned would be pretty nervous, too: it's one thing to sit in your practice room at home playing the tunes and filming take after take until you get it right. Quite another to go up in front of 40,000 or whatever and bang it out well in one shot. Even when I was playing in bands ages ago, I don't think I ever played in front of more than a couple hundred people.

I'd agree he's played enough to the point where he's got some ability on the instrument. I dunno, maybe it's just the amount of time I spent learning Eddie's licks in the 1980s and listening to friends of mine playing Eddie's licks in the 1980s and hearing countless other guitar players in music stores in the 1980s playing Eddie's licks, in that long before the 2000's arrived hearing anybody playing Eddie's licks just wasn't that impressive. It was kind of impressive in the early 1980s in the sense that back then we didn't have the tab or the internet or the ability to set next to Eddie Van Halen and watch him up close: we had to figure most of that stuff out by ear. But the reality is that most people who played back then, if you had been playing a few years and had been practicing quite a bit you had the dexterity to replicate what Eddie had done. It wasn't the ability to replicate, but the ability to create something original that was as compelling...THAT aspect was what all the Eddie clones of the 1980s lacked.

But whatever. I suppose I should take it for what it was, which was a nice, innocuous tribute to his father, rather than nitpick the shit out of it.

Showbiz is the whole package. You have to look like you belong up there. To be honest, I cringed. Yeah nice job playing a bit of dad’s stuff but man, lard ass ain’t cool. I was down in Belize and Guatemala for two weeks doing some diving and hiking. Nobody down there is fat. I fly back to the states and it’s like Jabba The Hut multiplied and invaded the airport. Repulsive fatty’s everywhere.

So a lowering birth rate and fat people who will die sooner. Future generations will enjoy less traffic.

                      Ha no kidding.

I'm by no means a fan of the Foo Fighters and never thought Hawkins was that great of a drummer. But hey to each their own.

Grohl cleverly made being a fan an occupation. Sure he can hit drums, strum a guitar and scream but he’s like a minister or politician, he’s all smiles out to sell you something. But I will give him credit, he’s managed to ride the bull and stay in the media spot light for a long time.

Was it a tribute or an excuse for promoting the living? A tribute is a nice funeral, a moment of silence, or even a monument but you don’t make $$$$ doing that.
