I can remember all the turds that would say they had VH inside information. The VH forums were full of them. Hungry fans were wasting their time on the internet hoping to hear some truth. None to be found. Everyone was full of shit.

The truth was Valerie had driven Ed into being a walking corpse. VH was doing nothing because years of her and then feeling like you are a failure to your kid because of a divorce took ol Ed into the Devil’s rectum. But nobody knew anything because Ed had become Howard Hughes and locked himself up and I guess his house started to look like the haunted mansion with cobwebs, dust and shit.
No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

Anyhoo as it happens the gig I was at in Baltmore back then has a great video and I went back and looked tonight and even Panama was absolutely fine vocally.

Maybe around the last time Dave didn't ruin Panama which is a bit of consolation as it was the most I have ever spent going to a gig and ever will ...?
I'd say Ed started off well on that 2007/2008 tour...from the videos I've seen of the dates on the first leg of the tour, he sounded like he was playing well. Perhaps not quite 100% up to where he had been in the CVH days, but well enough.

I think Ed relapsed in early 2008 then sort of recovered again toward the end of the tour.

But, yeah, Dave upped his game for 2007/2008. A noticeable improvement over what I'd seen at those 1999, 2002, 2005 and 2006 gigs. And rightfully so, because in 2007/2008 he wasn't opening for Bad Company or on a double bill with Hagar or playing a slot sandwiched in a multi-band lineup at a State Fair/County Expo/Ribfest or doing a solo gig at a 1,000-seat theater: he was fronting Van Halen and headlining 15,000 seat arenas.

From what I remember, Blabbermouth was always getting the 'inside story' wrong.

Guy comes over here to post HIS comment about my comment about the links, his comment being along the lines of he was awesome/his site was recognized by the band/he was friends with Eddie Van Halen/who the fuck am I to say anything about his website. Mind you, I wasn't going onto HIS site and commenting that I had no use for it. Never even had an interaction with the guy prior. Fucking dimwitted psycho with delusions of grandeur over the importance of his website comes over here to be cyber tough guy.

It's like, you run a popular website about Van Halen. Okay. So?

Based on the slant I saw on the site however many years back it was now since that interaction, wouldn't surprise me if he was sniffing Ed's kid's shit-stained underwear and swearing it smelled like roses: if you're a fan of someone to the point where you find zero fault in anything they do ever, you might as well call yourself a cult member.

Whatever. Fuck that guy and his Hagar-friendly site.
That's EXACTLY what he did to me.

I tried to remain pretty neutral during the few years I was at that site. I (FORD too) made it clear that Dave was the singer for me...no competition. But I basically tried to be peaceful.

Summer of 2000...little Bretty was a lot more patient with posters like me and FORD because everyone in the VH world was excited about the so-called reunion album "Tabula" whatever. And it never happened.

Early 2004, the Sam reunion tour talk started. I'd previously been a little patient with Shammy-fans, even posting things like, "The music in BLACK 'N' BLUE is very good," which I still think it is. But as 2004 went on, and the sheep started joining the site in droves and attacking the Dave die-hards with talk like "So I guess Sammy really is the band's singer-of-choice," I started getting angry. I started arguing with them...

...AND THEN BRETT JUMPED IN AND YELLED AT ME AND THREATENED ME WITH BANNING FOR "STARTING UNNECESSARY SHIT," YELLING AT ME FOR STARTING THE "STUPID DAVE VS. SAM SHIT."

MAX contacted me and told me to get out of there and go to the Army. "You can post whatever you want there. And they hate Sammy, just like you."

I care far less about this shit now. It's not even an argument anymore. Dave won. It's over.

So I came over here. Soon after, I started the Sheep Pen.

And Brett FUCKING FOLLOWED ME OVER HERE AND YELLED AT ME, calling me names for betraying him and daring go somewhere else.

And I told him to fuck himself.

            Later I saw I wasn't Banned there. I couldn't give a shit.

But him actually following posters to other sites after he starts shit with them, trying to teach them a lesson in a new environment in which he has NO CONTROL...

...it's incredibly pathetic. It blows my mind that someone's insecurity could be so fucked up.

If I ever get really bored, I'm going to go back there with the express purpose of getting BANNED.

I was banned over there for 3 years or so. 2002 to 2005. Then in 2007 I got "segregated" to their so-called "retard barn" for an alleged one month sentence, based on fuck knows what... it was never explained to me why that even happened.

It's now 2023 and that "one month sentence" is still going. I would have more respect for him if he actually banned me again, than pull some cowardly pussy move like that.

I can't even remember the chronology of my encounter with the guy here now re: what year it was...I may have even signed up as a member there, looked around a couple of times then split (early 2000s I joined several VH/Roth websites).

I do remember I looked around there, determined it wasn't my kind of site then didn't bother with it. Never a case of me going over there and posting "this place sucks" or whatever.

But, yeah, for him to come over here and start shit was weak enough. To pepper his shit with this attitude of his, this "I'm the king of all things Van Halen online, sing my praises or keep silent" nonsense was beyond laughable. More like...hey, you start up a website and it is (or was, or still is or whatever) successful in terms of site hits: fantastic. Probably not an easy thing to do in terms of time/money/effort involved. But that dude came across like he thought his Van Halen website was the internet equivalent of Van Halen's music in terms of importance.

Yeesh. Fuck outta here with that stuff.

To have your sense of self-worth so tied up to a website you made - which is ultimately only highlighting the achievements of someone else anyway - I mean, shit, Sarge never came off that way.

VAN HALEN frontman David Lee Roth performed with the all-star covers band ROYAL MACHINES at the Oracle CloudWorld 2023 event this past Wednesday night (September 20) at the Venetian Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Also appearing with the group were Chris Chaney (JANE'S ADDICTION), Bill...

Dave has played another corporate gig recently.

Many people in the music business see it this way. Van Halen ended when Dave left. When Hagar joined the band it became something else. Both Dave and Sam were the band leaders. They wrote the lyrics and they were the masterminds of the overall presentation. Ed wrote riffs and was very creative at it but Dave and Sam took Ed’s riffs and made songs out of them. Mike and Al were the rhythm section. So the whole vibe is going to change with who is doing the overall song construction. Eddie wasn’t good at creating songs. VH3 is Ed making songs and it’s horrible.

I prefer to call the band with Dave Van Halen and they were at their peak around 1980. I saw them then and Dave could wail. Van Hagar was more goofy and pop oriented. They wore fucking pajamas onstage. They looked like fags.

I saw part of a OU812 show and walked out during the drum solo. I couldn’t take any more of it. Sammy thought he was hot shit but he was just annoying. Ed looked like some fag with a stupid red and white striped shirt. Mike discovered his inner faggot without Dave there to discipline that gimp. Naw it just sucked donkey balls. I found a bar and numbed the pain of what I experienced.

Much more interesting than the performance itself, although Roth did manage to lift a single leg partway up in the air once for a moment: "He's still got it!" And could that crowd reaction be any more subdued? The crowd looked as bored watching the music as the band and Roth looked bored performing it.

I read an article maybe...8 years ago or so now. I think it was in GQ magazine. One page blurb on Kenny Loggins. He was saying that he toured when he could but most of his revenue was doing those corporate gigs, and he was making steady money doing those shows. Around $50k per gig and all he had to do is show up and play Footloose, I'm Alright and Danger Zone. And that was in 2017 or so.

I bet Kenny Loggins didn't decide 15 years ago to change the vocal melodies to those songs. I don't understand why he doesn't realize that every single time he does that it just sounds like a mistake.

As far as people being bored - it's a corporate gig he's not playing to his own audience it's a cross section of all sorts of people.

I will give Dave points for staying in shape. He’s set a good example there. Dave can’t do his old stuff because it was so high energy. Dave is kind of like the old guy who think’s he still can drive but can’t. You just can’t convince grandpa he is now going to be a passenger. Old age sucks. Can’t get it up or in and they take the keys from you.
