Brian May Reacts to Being Named the Greatest Guitarist by Guitar World

Of course Brian, ever the humble guy that he is, doesn't think he's the greatest and lists off all the guys he thinks are great. Most of them would be the names you would expect.

If you want to nominate a guitarist who's still alive though, it probably comes down to May, or Phil Keaggy.

    Not if you played guitar.

There are a hundred ways of ranking it of course but the only one Brian May might sneak in on is part writing some memorable parts in some very popular songs.

He seems like a nice guy and I admire his work but it's just silly to put him on that pedestal. If anything one of his most attractive traits is that like most of us he isn't a genius, he has to stare slightly anxiously at his guitar in the exact way someone like Eddie Van Halen didn't.

Then again who cares and maybe he should just get it for being a guitarist with some humility...

It's true that Phil plays for JC's team and that's why he's largely unknown in the secular music industry. But if you don't want to hear his lyrics about the Lord, he's made instrumental records too...

Let’s see what Wiki says about Keaggy…
Genres: Contemporary Christian, Jesus music, Christian rock, new-age, folk, jazz-funk

    No thanks.

    I’ll pick Willie Nelson.
