The big thing evangelical ministers sell is the rapture. There’s nothing on rapture in the Bible. In fact Christ’s apostles and deciples were persecuted, jailed and some were killed in horrible ways. The Book of Job is about a good man who gets completely fucked over. Old Christianity was about bearing the cross and being tried and tested. If you stood up to all the shit you got a big reward in the next life.
Modern evangelicalism is you stick a fish bumper sticker on your car, say you are a Christian. Joel Olsteen says Jesus wants you to be rich. Hagee says Jesus will beam you up like Star Trek before anything bad happens to you. Just get wet in the font, pay the church some money and you get raptured before the nonbelievers experience all the tribulation.

The whole End Times theology as the FundaMENTALists teach it is really a mashup of various parts of the Bible, Most of it from Revelation, of course. Some parts of the book of Daniel mixed in, and the Ezekiel 38/39 thing, which is exactly why Fat Bastard Hagee wants a war between Israel and Iran more than possibly even NuttyYahoo does. The "Rapture" doctrine comes from 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 which reads:

But it's the mashup of all these various Old Testament and New Testament Scriptures into one "End Times" scenario that has been a more recent development. As a "recovering Baptist", I grew up around this doctrine and used to be really into it. Then again, it hasn't really been 2,000 years since the crucifixion yet. That's not until 2030. And it's 2023 now so.... that leaves 7 years, if the Tribulation starts immediately. But let's face it... it's been a Tribulation of one degree or another since December 12, 2000, so would anybody even notice at this point if the Antichrist actually took over?
