I will never understand this (p)Rick Beato guy. I will never understand how someone with the money and prestige he allegedly has can be that bored with himself.

I quickly reached an admittedly already limited threshold re: watching/listening to people I hadn't heard of speaking about pop culture things of which I had, not too long after youtube launched their channel.

Which is a semi-polite way of saying I couldn't be bothered watching the clip since I don't care what either of the guys pictured in it - regardless of who THEY are - have to say about Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing.

I can say that I still enjoy the act of LISTENING to Eddie's playing as much as I ever did back in the 1980s, though I don't listen to Van Halen's music as much these days as I did back then; that stuff is burned into my brain to the point where I don't NEED to listen to it as often now.

Eddie was just a fantastic player. For me it sort of is the case that, by and large, the vast majority of what he did that pleased me most to hear was done by the time 1985 rolled around.

    Just a lovely player.

There is much of that but the one thing I took away from it was I had kind of weirdly forgotten about the 'tempering' of the B string thing. I don't play Van Halen stuff on guitar really but when I used to back in the day when playing by ear I would naturally just tune that string down slightly but nowadays I 100% have always used a guitar tuner exclusively tuning on the nose in rehearsal and recording and I need to think about that a bit and if it is adversely affecting other stuff I play.

So I agree there is a lot of shit on YouTube but Rick Beato is very often worth a look.

(p)Rick Beato may be a nice guy but he is the definition of a failed musician with way too much money on his hands.

Same here... that last bit where they actually demonstrate the B string tempering, plus also the high E was the best of this video. I've always had a struggle with a B string perfectly tuned as it most times sounds off to my ears... then it leads me to feeling my E is off if I drop the B down a tiny bit.

This just confirms what my ears have always told me. Plus, I didn't have the issue until digital tuners became standard use. Tuning by ear virtually eliminated the issue.

Anything that pisses you off is a good thing. It is what you live for.

How could you sleep at night knowing that you had not been pissed off at something that day?
