"Van Halen was one of the most hallelujah, tailgate, backyard, BBQ, arrive four hours early to the gig just for the parking lot bands. And still to this day is. It's an attitude. I think it's a spirit more than anything else is."
Here's a tidy bit of info...
on the Orioles...
In need of a second baseman and some help in the bullpen, the A's could send Barry Zito to Baltimore for Brian Roberts and Jorge Julio.
With Redman struggling...not sure why they'd want to do this with Zito...Roberts is a good prospect...but a sell high...I'd rather have Hairston...
Here's an under the radar one...from an under the radar kind of team...
The Marlins seem to be solely interested in Larry Walker, as Steve Finley has demanded to play center field. To acquire Walker, the Marlins probably will have to send Jeff Conine to Colorado. Finley could end up with the Phillies, who have been searching for solid center-field play all season
Conine for Walker...is there anyone who wouldn't rather have Walker than Conine? Both past their prime...but Walker seems to be a guy who can give you something if healthy...
There was a juicy rumor about Carlos Beltran coming to the Giants in a three way deal, reported by a Miamai paper(the Marlins were involved as well).........apparently bullshit though. God knows we need either a big bat to protect Barry, a closer(Herges is a fucking gas can), or a solid starter.
Alright...just past 4:00...
nothing big announced yet...
but the RJ trade didn't get announced to the next day...
I'm guessing there are at least 2 deals we don't know about yet...
anyone heard anything?
Fucked up, you already had the Finley deal posted.
My bad.
Johnson staying put surprised me though.
No big deal...
yeah...you know...most prognosticators said the same thing...
they wanted way to much for RJ...unfortunate really...
Arizona could have really helped their team a lot with Johnson...instead...they get nothing...
well...'cept one of the best pitchers of all time...
Amazing that they have sunk so low so fast.
They should have moved him. Everyone knew it couldn't be the Yanks, so they couldn't use that as a bargaining chip.
Most clubs figured they would drop their price the closer the deadline got.
Well...I'm real curious about next season during the offseason...
if they don't make any moves...they may be able to move him for much more during the winter meetings...
man...I'd have dealt him...there had to be some legit deals there...had to be...
Better consider it during the off season.
They had to think they'll at least draw big when he pitches, and they are so far out of it that the gate was a bigger priority.
Well...that does make sense...in a crazy way...
but they really do have some good players there...
I'm surprised Alomar didn't get dealt...to be honest...
What a coup for the Cubs...
getting Nomar...and keeping Clement...
never thought it was possible...never...
They MAY have just changed their fortunes for the year...
still need some major bullpen work...but offensively...much better....
That bullpen is going to be way huge for them if they are going to have any chance.
Hawkins is the closer, not that great. Farnsworth, Remlinger, Rusch ...
Need that starting staff to get healthy and be solid.
Surprise, surprise the Phillies did nothing that really mattered. Again. Fourth straight year they didn't get any real players at the trade deadline. Everyone in their minor league system is "untouchable."
Then look at the Mets, who have a worse record than the Phillies right now (they won't soon) who, three games BELOW .500, got two top-flight pitchers. That's remarkable that the Mets are going for it, yet the Phillies won't because they have to hang onto Cole Hamels and Gavin Floyd. Everyone's untouchable.
Recent examples of untouchables in previous years were Brett Myers, Brandon Duckworth, David Coggin, Doug Nickle, and Marlon Byrd.
They get over the hill relievers. Incredible. Ed Wade should be fired.
BTW the Dodgers had the best trade deadline session that I can remember. Boy did they plug up some holes fast. Marlins did well too. I think the Dodgers made out better but the Marlins still did well. Amazing how the Marlins can part with Brad Penny and Hee Seop Choi, but the Phillies just can't let go of Ryan Howard in the minor leagues, the overrated Gavin Floyd and Cole Hamels in the minors. They're all "crown jewels."
There's no one on the Phillies right now who's untouchable, and that includes Thome.
They sure could have done something.
A pitcher (starter or reliever) or a bat, seems like they could have used either.
I think the Phils WILL get someone during the monthlong waiver period...
Just noone that matters...
Actually, I really don't think the Dodgers got much better. They lost their set-up guy, who has been lights out, and LoDuca(the heart of the team).Originally posted by Lou

Okay...WTF am I missing...for years...LoDuca has been considered a hamnegger...and never...nada once...over the past four years has been mentioned as the "HEART AND SOUL" of LA...
so...now he's having a good season again...and because of that..."he's the heart and soul" of the Dodgers?
If the Dodgers were winning because of LoDuca...then they don't fucking deserve to be where they are...
Mota will hurt...sure...but how many #1 guys are available these days?
None...
Done with the sticky...
