My very first guitar was a Kay SG copy....piece of ultimate shite guitar.
It was presented to me by my mother along with a Crate CR-12 amplifier (the orange crate looking things).

For some reason those things are worth a lot of money now, so i am told. I just never saw that coming or i wouldn't have destroyed it when i got my Les Paul...
What really sucks is that i paid $750.00 for that Les Paul NEW and probably couldn't touch that guitar today for less than $5,000.00.

Do you have a guitar in mind that you are planning to buy?

A '92 Epiphone S-310 that looked kinda like one of Eddie's old Kramers. I still have it.
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

Honestly, no but I am open to suggestions. I'm still a "beginner" when it comes to playing guitar (I've had my accoustic for almost 2 years) so I'd like a good "beginner's guitar." Also, since I'm a poor college student , I don't want it too expensive either.

Ibanez has some decent axe's that are very affordable for the beginner that don't play like coffee table rejects.

The Mexican Strat idea is a good one as well, although i don't really like ebay for guitars.
I like to play them before i buy, personally.

Play a bunch of guitars before buying one so you'll find the one that fits you best is what i recommend.

I think mine was a Hondo II that would've put Edward's Frankenstrat to shame if they were propped together side-by-side. That fucker was so butchered, I'm not too sure where ANY of the parts came from. I think the only thing I bought new for it was a new set of tuning keys, new knobs, and Ernie Ball strings. The pickups were ratshit third-hand humbuckers that'd seen the inside of about a half dozen different guitars. The bridge was so fucked, the whole damned thing went flat about every third chord. The guy that owned it before me took a woodburning knife to it and burned a coyote howling at the moon next to the tailpiece. I plugged into any amp that someone carried in the door - Crate, Randall, you name it. I think the best damn thing about it was the strap.

I had a black and white Les Paul copy, (cheap) made by some company called "Amena" ..... I bet nobody has heard of them,
I dont think I have since.. (Korean maybe ?)
It looked cool, but the neck was fucked. But I didnt really care at the
time as I was only noodling around the first position and sometimes daringly up near the fifth fret...

The first electric I bought that I actually loved, and still own is my 85 Ibanez Destroyer II...

85 Kramer Striker - what a piece of shit.

If I was starting out today I would look around the $400 - $600 range for a good used guitar and then pay a professional to set it up for you.

Well, I ended up buying a Squier Affinity Telecaster the other day and I'm very happy with it. Here's what it looks like:

I'm currently learning how to play "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love".

Ive got a Vibe amp, but I spotted a sweet Peavy at the same pawn shop for under $200, so thats the next purchase. Separate foot switch for reverb, which will go nice with the MT metal pedal, Stereo Flanger, DD6 Delay, Phase 90 shifter and Dunlop Cry. I want the stereo chorus next. Fuck Im greedy. Anyone want to add to my list of what I might want to add. Or not?

    Unhappy

Got a KENT SG COPY for Christmas in'84. Traded it in on a MARTIN STINGER TELE COPY in 1986 at HERB DAVID in ANN ARBOR. I would love to get another one, for the sake of nostalgia. Should have NEVER gotten rid of it!!!!!!! It was a piece of shit, but, in hindsite it was kinda cool.

I just remember the words Peavey and Bandit. The guy said it was 100 watts. Looked fairly new. I dunno. Maybe 5 years old. He wanted under $200 for it. Prob could've talked him down more.

Ok, now that this thread is active again : my first electric was a les paul copy (Yasuki), a piece of shit with the action so high I could get my hand between the strings and the fretboard. My second was a strat copy (Daytone), then a real strat, then a Kramer Pacer, and my fifth a Kramer Stagemaster wich I still have. I must've had between 25 or 30 guitars after that. I only kept the best ones!

Sold that Pacer 15 years ago. Man, I'm getting old! Actually, I've had 3 Kramers American Series : a Pacer, a Stagemaster flattop and a Stagemaster archtop. The Stagemaster flattop is the superior guitar and still in my posession!

Had a no-name Telecaster copy. The action was so damn high off the fretboard that it played like a steel-stringed acoustic. Cost about $50.

Eventually took a bunch of acrylic paints and dripped them onto the guitar to try and make it look cool, and of course it came out looking like vomit.

That was back when $500 was a lot to spend on a new guitar. Remember Jackson and Charvel were the first I had heard of breaking a grand for a brand new axe in the mid-1980s.

Id like to get my hands on a Kramer '84 without the headstock. Is this available? Im sure Ive seen it, NOT positive it was Kramer '84, but thats my guess, and it looked cool. Any input?
