absolutely my fave.....i slept in my parents room for 3 nights after seeing that flick..the atmosphere and music..no one would think twice about a guy walking around like that on halloween..at least not back in '78....and the way he would be RIGHT THERE..the open door when the chick was on the phone and gone a split second later..the guy looking through the door while she was in the washroom..when he raises up from behind the parked car when the girl runs by taking the kid across the street..the kid runs into him at the school after making the other kid drop the pumpkin..
scary fuckin movie...although my kids didnt think so ..it scared the shit outta me

A friend of mine's 11 year old was over and I put HALLOWEEN on for him and he thought it was funny. Pissed me off. All the parts you described are dead on scarey shit.
I like to pay close attention to the things I'll forget later...

Ok, well...i'm a definite Horror movie buff. Having said that, it'd be tough to narrow down to one movie.....but if so, it's be the first Halloween. It was an independant movie, done on a shoestring budget, and NO blood actually shown in any scene. Yet...it was so perfectly made. Dark, eerie...and it spawned the most recognizable and intimidating evil character in the form of Michael Myers, a.k.a "the shape". Done by John Carpenter as a tribute to Psycho, it gave way to many imitators (Jason, most notably) and to me is unmatched for it's simple yet chillingly suspenseful feel. The music, also one of the most recognizable themes ever, was perfect in each scene. As a fan of many (not all) of Carpenter's films, one thing i always loved was his uncanny ability to put just the right music to his scenes. He cowrote and played much of the keyboard work to alot of his films...another cool tidbit, IMO. Some of my favs by him (other than Halloween) are The Fog, The Thing, Christine, Prince of Darkness...to name a few. Just mentioning The Thing made me remember how much i loved that one, too....perfect atmosphere....small group of guys trapped in the antarctic....an alien that can assume the likeness of anything....so cool. The tension of "who can i trust?" and the music...low, pulsing, and creepy.....man, good stuff. Not to mention...for it's time...ground-breaking FX. Well, i've rambled enough....cant end without giving props to Psycho, Jaws, Exorcist, The Ring, The Blair Witch Project( go ahead, laugh lol), or Black Christmas. Peace.

Prince of Darkness is a great movie; have not seen it in years but it really hit the twisted spot well. Dug the Alice Cooper cameo too.

All of the others are great movies too. I loved The Blair Witch Project and The Ring. Both deserve way more respect from the casual horror fan.

Scary Movie 3. To think that someone, somewhere thought that this 3rd version of what was a funny string of movies, would make any money what-so-ever. That is fucking scary.

But for scary scary... Id say Excorsist, first 3 Friday the 13th's, The Entity, Amityville Horror, first Poltergeist and Tommy Lee in a porn.
"FUCK YOU, YOU FUCKIN' BITCH! WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE ANYWAYS? TALK TO ME LIKE THAT? FUCK YOU. DRAG QUEEN LOOKIN' WHORE- YOU AINT SHIT. YOUR THE FRECKLE TO THE LEFT OF MY BROWN EYE. NOW GO MAKE YOURSELF USEFUL...OH, PUT DAD ON THE PHONE"

yesss I also recommend "Deep red" (Profondo rosso) by Argento, and as mentioned before Fulci and Bava have loads of good movies...classic horror without too much supernatural green mutant eating you-stuff, that's what I like...

Knowing and believing are two very different things.

It is the difference between the knowledge we accrue... ...and the knowledge we apply.
