U2, IRON MAIDEN, DEF LEPPARD To Be Nominated For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME Induction? - July 25, 2004

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominating committee is discussing the potential nominees for 2005 induction. Apart from sure-shot U2, some of the artists eligible for the first time include IRON MAIDEN, DEF LEPPARD, BRYAN ADAMS, PAT BENATAR and SIMPLE MINDS. Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

Black Sabbath should be in there. They're one of the most famous classic rock bands ever. Who hasn't heard of Ozzy Osbourne?? I'd like to see Iron Maiden in there, they're great.

Black Sabbath voluntarily declined induction into the rock n roll hall of fame. Their reasons for doing so, as Ozzy explained, were that the "critics couldn't give a shit about us in the 70's, so why would they pretend they like us now"

You know the RNRHOF has lost all credibility after other legendary artists who deseved it when Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Grand Funk Railroad, Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Ted Nugent, Kiss & Van Halen haven't been nominated yet. It's great that Pat Benetar is being nominated for the RNRHOF since she is one of the last great female rock vocalist after Janis Joplin & Ann Wilson of Heart. I think it's a bad sign when Def Leppard is being nominated for the RNRHOF because that leads to Motley Crue & Bon Jovi who are one album wonders which defined 80's rock realistically speaking.

This RNRHOF thing is bs. When bands like Van Halen and KISS don't get in on their first shot it's just plain sad. When Prince gets on the ballot and in before VH gets the mention that's total bs. They need too look at the charts or something.

A couple of years back Richie Valens was inducted into the HOF. The HOF choose Ricky Martin, who was hot at the time, to do a tribute to Valens, singing some of his music. They choose Martin over Los Lobos who had covered Valens before and who I'm sure the family would have wanted. (Martin is Puerto Rican, Los Lobos Mexican-American) I never had much respect for the Hall but lost whatever I had when they pulled that stunt.

not bs at all...prince is a freaking musical genius. the guy is amazing and an unbelievable guitar player. charts dont mean anything...if they do you are first in line when britney, n sync, backstreet, and aguillera are inducted since they have sold a shit load.

Prince was signed to WB about the same time Van HALEN was, and their debut albums both came out in early 1978. I have no doubt that if Eddie hadn't turned Van Halen into a fucking bad soap opera, they would have been inducted along with, or possibly before, Prince.

I think pat Benatar should get in. Having said that, Blondie should get in before Benatar but has never even been on the ballot. Not only was Debbie Harry one of the most influential female, she was a major piece of ass back in the day. Blondie rules.

Ozzy didn't fuck up at all. Sabbath, as he put it, was always "the people's band", and he didn't want the band to be nominated because critics, not the fans had the final say in the matter. I mean, c'mon- what self-respecting rock fan would nominate Simple Minds for the highest honor in rock music?! The powers that be in that institution are the kind of guys who get up on their little hind-legs to salivate over the likes of Morrisey (aka Mr. Mopey Pants) & Nir-Vanah.
