mine are 12 and 7 now. If you remember I quit posting originally when I went back to college. Wife was pregnant with #2 then. And I never resumed after I graduated 2 years later. That is, until now.

The more I listen to Tattoo, the more catchy the song gets. To be clear, I love it, but with each listen it gets better and becomes more memorable.
I say this all because it seems like a lot of reaction to the song is relatively tepid. Not around here mind you, but elsewhere. Let me elaborate:
The song is fun. It has a funny subject matter. I love MWM and CGTSNM, but those songs aren't fun or funny. They're great but they're no Full Bug, EWS, or Drop Dead Legs. Tattoo is in that same vein because of it's subject matter. Van Halen hasn't done a fun song in years. Granted, they haven't done any song in years, but still this is a throwback to the party album that Van Halen was known for. Not the half-assed social commentary, Rush-lite wanna be lyrics of the Three Mop Top. This is about, among other things, 40 year old women trying to become a 25 year old. That's classic Dave. Granted the Round Rocker attempted to be fun, but it's pretty clear who wins the lyrical exchange... Sexy Dragon Magic > Honeydew my mello (and it's not even close...)
The music is great. You know what? I forced myself to listen to the pile of shit that is It's About Time, Learning to See, and Up for Breakfast. Truthfully I fast forwarded to the solo's. But what stands out to me is the fact that Ed sounds Eddie again. Not Edward from the Van Hagar period, but Eddie from the WACF, FW, DD time frame. His solo is melodic and feels like a part of the song. The shit he did on those 3 Hagar tracks lack creativity or a flow. Listen to the final chorus before Ed hits the DiF tribute. The music builds and climax better than any VH song has since Little Guitars IMO. Furthermore, the music sounds like it could have been on ALAE partly because of the subtle keyboard you hear in the verse. And since that is my favorite non-VH album, I'm probably obligated to love it. Nevertheless, it's pleasing to my ears.
Bottom line: If the rest of this album is half as entertaining and catchy as Tattoo, the album will be a success commercially and creatively.

Lol, love it! A few details jump out at me. First of all, that place was so neutered. "Devil, I disagree with you." Really? I disagree? Could someone have a more limp-dicked response? ...
Oh wait, I forgot about reading Fernando's ridiculous posts of Si Senor, and patience... Good times because of the ass kicking. And bad times because of the pussyfooting, politically correct posting.
The Pasture dump. Wow those were some days.

Welcome back, Loons.
I brought my pencil!!!
Welcome back, though I'm sure Loons never left. As I listened to Stay Frosty, the first thing I remembered was a thread Loons and I discussed many times regarding IF Van Halen ever recorded again would their be a real blues based song. And if so, would it be in the vein of Ice Cream Man, Tell the Truth, Full Bug, or Nightlife...
I guess we got our answer. And based on the small clip we got, I couldn't be happier.
Welcome back Loons, you fucking gangsta.....

Alright!!! Lemme' se yo hands!!
Wow, Loons is back. The Prince Of Darkness himself makes an appearance. And me and redfire aquired a little something something today. Kinda feels like the shit is all coming together.
I was able to purchase tickets today. I use to work at the bank that has its name on the arena here in Tulsa. Anyway, it was a presale for bank employees, and my friends that still work there forwarded me the link and password. But all the floor seats were sold out. Stupid Amex presale.
I ain't no gangsta...I'se jus play one on the interweb. I remember them convos, Redfire. I remember having to watch out for friendly fire when HOP was tellin it like it iz! Look out¡! These new songs are mind roastin!! Just WoW a how how how how WoW!!
The important thing is, DLR is the singer for Van Halen and we be going to see him...
don't you guys feel vindicated for all those years of battlin' the non believers?
there aren't any "right nows" when it's loves or feel so goods. No more writers able to say that the album starts and ends with a whimper.
as my bud Brownsound said, "We won!"
Not just yet, be patient Grasshopper...
When the new album comes out, and the same critics who've been bashing this band for 28 years say how fucking good it is, THEN I'll feel vindicated.....
Hain, HOP, Loons, Red...
This is pure vindication and euphoria right now. Talking to Brownie and we're like 15 yo kids again! Firing up the Commodore 64 and TI-99/4a home computers, breaking out the old concert shirts and parachute pants... ok maybe not that far.. but damn, feels good to be a VAN HALEN fan for the first time in 28 years!
That is all.

These next couple of weeks are going to be great. New album in a week, then off to NYC the following weekend. And the NEXT weekend will be the first show of the tour in my backyard!
Someone in another thread around here said something about trying to avoid the piano falling on their head--ain't the the truth!
So I have been listening to my old VH boots and demos, and I can't find a recycled riff for China Town (among other songs). So what songs do we know are brand new? I know that Tattoo, She's the Woman, Bullethead, Blood and Fire, Outta Space, Big River, and Beats Workin' are derived from Down in Flames, She's the Woman, Bullethead, Ripley, Let's Get Rockin', Big Trouble, and Put Out the Lights respectively. So that means You and Your Blues, China Town, As Is, HBSD, Trouble with Never, and Stay Frosty are new tracks, or did I miss something?
Found this review today. I didn't know they wrote this well in Idaho...
"Trash-talking Roth replacement Sammy Hagar still can’t drive 55. But the original members of Van Halen apparently still can rock after 55."
"If that’s the general consensus, it will be like Eddie Van Halen snatching away Hagar’s tequila, slamming it, then squirting the lime in Sammy’s eye."
"Now pass me the rest of Sammy’s tequila, so I can mix it with Kool-Aid.."

LET'S BOOGIE PEEPLE!!!!!!
Ooh sweet.........I'm losing woordsss...cant type...shit...first....time...in 29 years....i can say for certain....there's a new Van Halen album out and it just dropped...and I just synced the fucking deluxe mother fucking edtion onto my ipod...holy shit...this really happened...fuck off now...I'm going to go rock my balls off
Does anyone else feel line China Town is Ed giving the middle finger to Steve Vai. That song feels like Shyboy, from the intro, through the chorus where Ed's guitar mimics the vocal line ala shyboy, to the end with the crazy breakdown before the final note.
Furthermore, HBSD definitely feels and sounds like Ed showing Joe Satriani how to play in drop D and use a whammy pedal. If you've heard The Mystical Potatohead Groove Thing or Searching you'll probably understand what I mean.
I have a lot of respect for Steve Vai. Steve once said Eddie Van Halen was one of those rare players that change the world. Steve said Ed is in that category and he is not. Steve is a good player but he knew Ed had that rare magic that only a very few have.
Hello all you wonderful bastards!
New album sounds great; I'm really diggin' it.
Roth EUAS Militia
A kid born when you posted that would now be at high school...
Sounds about right, since I was just out of high school when I started posting
Holy shit! COR is back! I'm listening to new Van HALEN, DLR is still the king, and we're all finally vindicated. Arena rock just got the drop kick in the testicles it's sorely needed for a damn long time! So eat us an smile bitches!
