I wouldn't go as far as to say that Roth fans take it in the ass. Roth is awesome too. Van Halen is the greatest rock band in history. Eddie is awesome. He may not be the most technically incredible, (that would be Jason Becker) but I would say he is the most influential. And yes, Alex is an awesome drummer.

Why is it impossible for someone to like Van Halen's ENTIRE catalog AND like DLR too?

There was a time when these two were kings of the world, but that time has past. Alex is a solid drummer but far from the best. There are session players that would smoke him.
