That pic of Eddie and his dad was definitely worth a save.
    Thanks dude.
I like Van Halen more than Dave's PA Rental.....which means I like Van Halen more than you

They did alot of great cover tunes that are on live bootleg as im sure you're all aware.....I think "Rock and Roll Hoochie-Coo" is right up there with the best of them. Eddie does a friggin awesome jam in the middle of it. (who knew? lol)

Studio album covers........I'd have to go with Ice Cream Man for it's blazing guitar, the great style change they go through going from an accoustic song to a full-on rock/metal/blues jam is just world-class Rock-assault entertainment at it's finest. This song basically screams out what van halen was all about, Dave, Eddie, Mike, and Alex...all their personalities/playing styles are perfectly illustrated.....and of course Dave's personality/performance/singing style contributed as much as every other part of the song......and maybe even a little more.

Dave "van-halenized" their covers as much as anyone did.

Ed's sister is Alex. Jan Van Halen is his dad.

You Really Got Me was the first cover I had ever heard at the time that was better than the original...Gotta' go with it here as well.
Without DLR in the lineup, Van Halen is merely Rat Salade...

I think you got to go with You Really Got Me. The song really shows off the power of Van Halen. The reason is that the song isn't changed in the least musically but it blows away the original. It's a simple tune that can be played by anyone but when Halen played it, it just sounded different. You're No Good really doesn't resemble the original, it's basically another song (Dave basically makes that song his own). You Really Got Me is Van Halen telling the world that we can take your songs and re-record and they'll sound a thousand times better just cause we're playing them. That says something man.

i'd say You're No Good was the best CVH cover song without a doubt...thing is that even though i dont' much like the idea of covers, CVH covers have always been brilliantly executed and sound like originals in their own right...You're No Good was superb, Dave's lyrical delivery, falsetto screams, and Eddie's fierce blues-riff attack on it makes YNG a terrific cover and a great way to start VHII, a record that i love more than their debut..
Music is like girlfriends to me; I'm constantly amazed at the choices other dudes make----DLR
