The difference between Eddie Van Halen and Jimmy Page is that Page fully respects the greatness which was Led Zeppelin.

Eddie disrespects the greatness that was classic Van Halen.

When Jimmy Page brought in other singers to replace Robert Plant, he didn't try to rip off the public by calling it "Led Zeppelin". Since Page respected what he did with Plant, and his fans as well for that matter, he called his band with Paul Rogers "The Firm". NOT "Led Zeppelin". He called his band with David Coverdale "Coverdale Page". NOT "Led Zeppelin". Hell he even called his classics cover band with Plant by a different name.

Eddie on the other hand disrespects the greatness which was classic Van Halen, and the fans, by calling his band with Hagar by the name "Van Halen". He refuses to respect the legacy that was classic Van Halen. He happily rips off fans that don't know any better (the uninformed) and fans that are too stupid to know better (the sheep) by calling his new band "Van Halen".

It is really unfortunate because I think classic Van Halen was as great as Led Zeppelin.

I think EVH disrespects the fans, not necessarily the legacy. should they have changed the name after DLR quit? probably but how can you say for sure. AC DC didn't. Pink Floyd never did when one of their members left. The Rolling Stones didn't when Mick Jones died....or was he kicked out first? Where is the cutoff...how many members of a band does it take to be a band? Its easy to say they should have but it's not like they could do it now. There is a clear division in the styles of music, does it really make a difference what the band's name is? Everyone always points out that VH stopped being a band in '84 so who cares what the current band name is, as the fans here dont recognize it anyway?

EVH has said that Spammy was apprehensive about meeting him for the first time, because as far back as 1986 EVH had the reputaion in the MUSIC INDUSTRY as always being "UNDER THE INFLUENCE". Look up the actual quote yourself, its in many interviews for 5150.

As for Page & Plant? That conversation could take a LONG TIME. In a nut shell, Page had a RAGGIN' HEROIN addiction at the end of LED ZEPPELIN. Plant refused to work with him for almost 15 years afterwards. And then, ONLY under his conditions, hence NO John Paul Jones. (2-1 JImmy and Jones could have dictated the deal to Plant). Read THE MAN WHO LED ZEPPELIN: The Biography of PETER GRANT for more info to the inner workings of LED ZEPPELIN.

i knew page was a big fan of the white lady...i will have to check that book out, i was going to go with "Hammer of the Gods", i think that was the title, as I like the author...same guy who just did the book on Morrison which was real good.

Good Work!!! Hammer of the Gods is a good read. The band members (PAGE, PLANT, & JONES) HATED it because it revealed some dirty laundry and the type of "Highjinxs" the band used ot get up to on the road. He also did OLD GODS ALMOST DEAD on the ROLLING STONES which is good.

For those of you all who DO play guitar, you are able to realize the simplicity behind his work. However, the chord changes and melodies that make up his music (although simple) seem to ingeniously come from some other world or something. I think Zeppelin has all of us cast under a spell or something. It's brilliant !! It comes from that pure source!!...The one, all musicians live for!! In this case, however, there seems to be something eery learing in the shadows of each song, though.

Jimmy Page is a lot better songwriter than EVH, and probably more versatile in the styles in which he can write and perform in. Ed's got (or had) chops galore, but I just can't see EVH pulling off a tune like Since I've Been Loving You or the Rain Song. Sure he could play the parts, but I don't think Ed's "emotional content" is that deep, so to speak. He grins too much to be serious like that. Now give EVH a boogie beat or a balls out rocker and he'll smoke that ass for you....although Pagey doesn't seem to have any trouble in that department either.

The biggest difference between them is the fact that Page, Plant, and Jones can still meet and discuss Led Zeppelin business TOGETHER. They can also make appearances together to promote DVD and album releases as well. I doubt we'll see the original VH lineup do the same in the near future...which is the biggest shame of all because they are all LIVING. Still pisses me off to no end when I think about it.
