Hi,
Guess I'm new here but wanted to post something since I saw Van Halen about two weeks ago in Denver. The concert itself was pure horseshit, dull and predictable and while Eddie had his flashes of brilliance most of it was sad seeing a bunch of withered (rich) old men grace the stage like a bunch of spaztics who missed the short bus.
So anyway, after reading a few threads on this board it "inspired" me to go out and buy up the "original" Van Halen re-issues and bought them all expect 'Fair Warning' because those corporate cocksuckers a the corporate store I bought them at didn't have that one.
The one that stands out the most to me is their first one. I wasn't even born when this came out but shit, it's like a lightening bolt between the legs. Okay, if I never hear 'Running With The Devil' again I'll die happy - but you know what, this debut has so much firepower on it and it never stops from begining to end.
My favorite tune off that album is 'Atomic Punk' I mean, fuck - it's genius! Eddie's pseudo heavy metal wah guitar intro, and Roth's lyrics declaring that "punk" isn't some sort of pussy British term after all. But in listening to the other VH albums, it seems like they never came close to doing a tune like this ever again. It's just so unique and stands out from the rest of the Van Halen pack by a Dave Matthews tour bus shitting on tourist by a port-a-pottie mile! i'm not big on hard rock but I like to play this tune really fucking loud to piss off my neighbors - and that's what rock and roll is all about.
