Lemme see if I can recall March 2000, when after a two year hiatus, I hit up Slawterhouse, then got directions from FORD and found my way to VHLINKS.... right about the time that Sarge re-launched the world's original and first almighty DLR/Classic VH site... and Pojo, Brownsound, and HOP, among others, picked up their bags, and moved on over to www.dlrarmy.com after the sheep and Hagaritas reached fever-pitch, and Brett just couldn't stomach all the pro-Roth/EUAS badasses running roughshod over the Up Front Fanatics, et al. Actually, shit got really weird after Gary was fired, and rumors of DLR returning filled the hearts and minds of the DLR faithful.

At any rate, Pojo and Brownsound and Hain and Pavinc were holding down the fort, and put together EUAS in the early days of 2000, with folks like HOP, JaneVH, VinnieVelvet, redfire, RB&W, FORD, loons, BEM, SlawterHouseBug, I believe, and maybe one or two others, who constituted the ORIGINAL EUAS, as it were.

I was the last to join in April 2000 around the time we put in a 'hiring freeze' (later we would add VA Beach, and a few more, with the roster at 22 or so when we all bailed for the mighty DLR Army--Spanish Fly being the first EUAS recruit at DLR Army, by the way, when hiring resumed), having been nearly banned after my very first post at VHLinks (Brett was on edge with all the flaming at the time, and my use of sheep and shearing put him over the edge that day... lol). HOP, Redfire, RB&W, FORD, and SlawterhouseBug all vouched for my credentials, having been one of the first (along with FORD) on the Internet to come to the defense of DLR, back on the old Warner Brothers Van Halen message board (FORD, myself, and others of our ilk single-handedly forcing WB to eventually close down the site... lmao). That was back in 1998 during the Gary debacle, but we had bumped into each other, I believe as far back as 1996, at the Slawterhouse site, which was badass, and even Sarge still has fond memories and reverence for that site. The logo is still classic.... talk about 'throwback jerseys'... the Warner Brothers Middle Finger logo is a classic.... lmao...

Anyhow, I bumped around Slawterhouse during the whole "Eddie Did It" fax from DLR shortly after the MTV Music Awards debacle in '96. Came back around to the WB site during the Gary days in '98 to take up the good fight once again, hanging a bit with FORD, beating up the sheep before they knew they were sheep (the nascent days of the Internet and forums)....lmao....

I then co-founded a dot.com (can you believe it) in Silicon Valley and dropped off the forums for awhile... after riding the dot.com wave in 98-99, I ended up in grad school, where I found myself with too much time on my hands, so I hopped on the Internet again, and after getting bored with porn, went straight to Slawterhouse, found FORD, and followed him on over to VHLinks... that was in March 2000....

Like this post is turning into, my first dozen or so posts at VHLinks were NOVELS... lmao... seriously, I believe I have the record for the longest stream-of-consciousness post in VH forums history... Pojo was even stunned at my prowess, as he was always known among VHLinks faithful as being a complete wind-bag, albeit his heart was in the right place... rotflmao... at any rate, Pojo and I would post our collective ass off (not that we actually have a single collective ass, mind you), to the pleasure or boredom of the online community, depending on your taste in either Classic VH/DLR or Van Hagarita.... it was about summer of 2000 that Pojo began addressing me as "Conmee, or Icon, as it were..." and thus "Icon" stuck. Most people thought Conmee was some sort of chick name, a combination of Connie or something, but it actually is the name of a priest in two Joyce novels (Father Conmee helped out a young Stephen Dedalus on a few occasions... but I won't bore you with the literature lesson... lol).... So I became Icon... and I can thank that redneck bastard from Cleveland, now residing next door to John Edwards in N.C.... albeit Pojo's double-wide doesn't compare to John Edward's spread... lol

Once we had established ourselves at www.dlrarmy.com, I was employee #5, only because I was on the west coast, and Pojo, Hain, Brownsound, and Sarge were signed up ahead of me... lol... with all the posting we did, Sarge, for lack of a better idea, made us mods of the dlrarmy.com. It was a very cool time in Van Halen land, and we still had high hopes. Flaming was encouraged, but it also took a higher road in terms of trying to articulate arguments about the pros/cons of Classic VH, solo work, etc. Sometimes it was high-minded and lofty (mainly threads by Pojo, me, SlawterhouseBug--we're all over-educated... so let that be a lesson to everyone... there may indeed be such a thing as too much education... or we're just underachievers... lmao.. anyhow...), or it could get downright dirty.... hitch would usher in a new era of low-brow, yet high-minded discussion, and he didn't hesitate to throw gasoline on the fire... Eddie should drink again was a classic.... lmao...

Over the years, WARF and MikeB and a whole slew of folks have come and gone and come again.... lol... I could spend hours writing even a brief history of EUAS and dlrarmy, and the great crash of Sept. 03 or was it Sept. 02 already... damn time flies... when Sarge got tangled up with a shitty service provider, and everything went to hell in a hand basket, and much of the history of www.dlrarmy.com went into the great trashcan of crashed hard drives and corrupt databases... a fookin' shame, but oh well....

And as for the Deep Fried Baloney Rolls, besides describing the rolls on the back of Sarge's ex-wife's neck , I coined that as my own retarded saying as sort of a tribute and in emulation of Brotha' Knockz, aka HardKnockz, aka HK... who had a killer/hilarious site of his own for a time... he would call folks Dried Up Jerky Strips, etc, so I took the Deep Fried route... later on, DiF would keep the threads stocked with Pete's Wicked Ale and Deep Fried Baloney rolls, and Deep Fried Twinkies I believe... mainly as a running joke in some of those infamous "bar" threads, which were indeed like online bullshit sessions... also some female worshipping with the likes of Jessica Alba and a young Britney Spears adorning threads while we were all bored waiting for SOMETHING to come from the Van halen camp... "News coming soon..." turned into three years....

So that's the gist of what I can recall... I'm sure if I actually put thought/effort into it, I could recall a hell of a lot more... my exploits at Pleasure Dome as RickAllensLeftArm... yes, that was me... and a host of other aliases... lmao... I'm also the original MikeOxlong... but hitch and a few others came along with their own variations... and Sarge... who hasn't he been.... I won't go into naming names, but we all had a fair share of hijinks and fun...

So here we are... with the 'inevitable' being that the Van Halen brothers broke with just about every statement they ever made about being dead-set against 'nostalgia acts', 'never tour without an album of new material', 'brother for life (Gary)', and 'playing tuba if shit doesn't work out...' etc...

After 8 years (since 1996) of riding this roller-coaster, some of use have become parents, husbands, wives, inmates, gainfully employed, bald, fat, etc... but the vast majority of the original are still around... and although we're not posting as much as we used to, if at all, we're still around, lurking, behind the scenes, on MSN Messenger or AIM, emailing, keeping the faith that we may all see a true VH reunion tour/show before we leave this world for the hereafter....

Hope that's enough of a refresher course, WARF... btw, do you remember that one homo Women and Roth First? Whatever happened to him? lmao...

Icon...that was an amazingly funny, sentimental, and entertaining read. It brought up so many memories of the early days of mymembership. I think SusieQ was the only woman that joined before me...unless you count WARF's alias'..roflmao. It's good to see you...you've popped up in my mind several times in the last week or so.
