The thing that is particularly bad with Guiliani is he must know who Trump is very well from NYC.

New York clearly knows who he is, the 'elites' and the average people. New York voted 2-1 against their own local boy and that was verses Hillary, imagine how few it would have been if it was anyone else on the Democrat site?

The rest of America should really have noticed that hometown where the guy had a super high profile for over 40 years knew he was a dumb snake oil salesman who lost the majority of an inheritance his sociopathic parents had scammed out the government.
Rudy just wants to be relevant again.

It was never a secret from any of NYC's movers and shakers going back 40 years who Trump was in terms of his character, both personal and professional. Yet there were never a shortage of NYC movers and shakers willing to go to Trump events and rub elbows with the guy.

As for the rest of America, you wonder how many people under 40 years old who voted for Trump did the slightest bit of due-diligence beyond knowing he was that guy from The Apprentice who claimed to have 10 billion dollars. For them, Trump's lack of appeal in the elitist, liberal media friendly city of New York was probably a plus: if that many coastal elites hate Trump, clearly [Trump] is doing something right.

Idiots. How did that Carrier deal work out? How did that Roy Moore endorsement work out. How has that massive tax cut to the wealthy working out: you rural white working class stiffs getting drowned in dollar bills from all the trickle down? How're you gonna make out when your medical/retirement benefits and social services are slashed? Are you amused that your candidate had to pay off porn stars who fucked him to keep quiet about it? $130,000 for Stormy Daniels seems like a shitty deal for the john in that transaction to me, especially since it didn't buy her silence anyway. A smart businessman would have slept with her, paid her nothing, than denied it happened.

Whatever, you pussy hat wearing faggot! As long as The Donald puts up that wall to keep the Mexicans out, and stops them coming in to do the jobs we don't want to do anyway!!!

    Wonderful!

Trump's dad was very active in the Republican Party. When Roger Stone was head of the Republican Party in New York state he was given a list of contacts by Ronald Reagan. Fred Trump was one contact and Fred said you better contact my son Donald. That's how that relationship began. Donald at that point became more involved in the Republican Party in New York starting by giving them office space to run their operations. Probably the person who had the most to do with having Trump run for president was Roger Stone. He first started suggesting he run in 1987. So Giuliani is a party member but I also agree he misses the attention. Mitt Romney is the same. He's done well in business but seems to like politics for whatever reason. He could be spending time at one of his nice properties with his grandchildren but that's boring. I find it odd he's running for a US Senate seat out of Utah. The only thing I can figure is he's going to run again for president. Why would a guy like that want to be a junior senator. Mitt is a strange one.

        Old Mittens.

I recall watching a Netflix documentary called MITT that was released after the 2012 election. Pretty much a behind the scenes fluff piece in that it totally avoided things like Mitt's 47% remarks, but more of a personal fly on the wall video diary of Mitt on the campaign trail. I will say Romney came off much more self-effacing, likable and even funny in those candid moments when he was talking with his family than he ever had publicly in any of his campaigns, where he always seemed a bit stiffly robotic and stuffy.

Part of the thing with Mitt, for me, is that he never really seemed to belong to any one particular state. He has always sort of bounced around the country. I sort of found it weird then that he was actually elected Governor from Massachusetts, and find it just as weird now that after his time there ended he rarely ever references it or has even physically gone back to the region outside of primary appearances related to the 2008 and 2012 election cycles. My puzzlement was always wondering why he didn't run for state office in Utah rather than Massachusetts, or Michigan where he was raised: I have never sensed the slightest affinity on Romney's part for Massachusetts. So, in that respect, at least it makes more sense to me that he is running in Utah this time around.

I also have never particularly gotten a vibe from Romney that he actually likes campaigning in terms of physically meeting voters, or giving campaign rally speeches. I think for Romney the aspect of the Presidency that appeals to him is sitting behind the desk, reading reports, analyzing data, making decisions alone at the desk. You know, the CEO trip.

I also think Romney would be up for making yet ANOTHER run at the White House in 2020 if Trump doesn't seek a 2nd term. So I suppose making a run for the Utah Senate seat makes sense toward a potential 2020 Presidential run in terms of keeping his name out there. However, if Romney fails to get the nomination for the Utah seat, that certainly won't be helpful. Beyond that, I don't really see Romney and the United States Senate as a good fit: Romney doesn't strike me as the kind of politician who wants to be 1 among 100, and a junior 1 at that. He wants executive power.

And hovering over all of this is the feeling that Romney's time has just...passed, you know? Just in terms of his viability. He has made 2 runs at the presidency already. He never particularly excited the Republican base. A lot of the turnout for him in 2012 was just an anti-Obama reaction rather than any real excitement over Romney himself. That GOP primary voters in 2012 were ready to seriously consider Gingrich in an ABR (Anybody But Romney) panic certainly didn't indicate a mindset which believed Romney was a strong candidate.

Mitt just doesn't have the skills to close the deal. I thought the guy might have a bit of previously unforeseen inner fortitude on display when he publicly denounced Trump in 2016. Then, that picture of them dining together over a plate of Frog's Legs after Trump won, with Trump's Cheshire Cat grin and Romney's sheepish, chastened wince...a vivid illustration of Romney's lack of backbone. Romney doesn't have the spine or the cojones needed to be President.

The Mormons in Utah are no fan of Cheeto, so maybe the fact that Mittens has warmed up to him since 2016 isn't doing him any favors in "the new Zion". Of course there's also the "carpetbagger" factor. While Romney's family made the big trip west with Brigham Young, Mittens himself has never been a resident of Utah, his association with the 2002 Winter Olympics probably being the most he's ever had to do with anything in the state.

He may be the most famous Latter Day Saint on this planet, but that doesn't seem to matter much to the rest of Elohim's faithful.

To me it's very very strange that Mormonism somehow comes under the umbrella of 'Christian' and so still qualifies you to get the super important crazy evangelical nutjob voting block.

Doesn't always work that way. A lot of the FundaMENTALists in the South (and probably more than a few of them in the North) still don't accept Mormons as Christians, and they swore they would not vote for Romney in 2012. Some of them probably caved in the end, because though Mittens was a "cultist", at least he was white!

If one only knew what they knew of Giuliani from watching coverage of how he handled himself and NYC during and in the wake of the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks, and that period - undoubtedly his finest - of Giuliani's political career was all one had really been aware of or exposed to (and really, unless one had lived in or near NYC during the Giuliani years, why WOULD you necessarily know anything more about him than the 9/11 stuff), then Giuliani's statements supporting Trump from 2016 up through today might seem a bit strange, or a case of "oh, poor Rudy, he has become a bit unhinged in his dotage."

For many of us who saw Giuliani in action as mayor of Mew York City pre 9/11, the Giuliani of late isn't particularly shocking. Perhaps mildly different in that he is less apt to restrain his comments now than he was before 2008, back when he still had aspirations of an elected office (as opposed to an appointed position). Now, when I see Rudy giving these interviews, I'm like "well, THAT is the Rudy Giuliani I remember, before he wrapped himself in the mythmaking of 9/11."

In Cohen's case, though, it seems just as likely he would have engaged in dubious activities on behalf of someone other than Trump with the same level of ease. Character being destiny and whatnot.
